CMRT - BETA AAR - German Side

Recommended Posts

The sound of a Ju-87G screaming in a dive-bombing run is something to behold, and will send the Ruski's running for their rabbit holes. Hope the sound effects are modeled accurately.

Edit: Apparently the "Jericho Trumpet" was removed from the Ju-87's early in the war and was not present on the aircraft during Bagration.

That's all good and well, but the G model was not a dive bomber.

Flak: the quad 20's are sweet, especially against infantry, but the 37's have a chance against the weaker aspects of a lot of Soviet armor. But then, the ROF of that quad 20 overcomes a lot, and I know that, for the brief time they were existed, I was VERY hesitant to have my Crommies face Bil's Wirbelwind and flaktracks.

Go quad!

gawd I had my first experience in a recent PBEM. Broadsword had set up a Son battle based on our op layer. The airborne were waging a bloody fight forcing their way through the woods and were finally driving my remnants out into the open with Son beckoning before them...and then my 37mm aa unit saw one Para emerging into a clearing and let loose. In 30 seconds it had wiped out 20 guys w/o ever even seeing most of them and brought the battle to a close. We were both stunned.

I'd say buy a couple small AA units and set up an ambush.

True: though the TO&E section of the Overview page does incorrectly describe the G - as well as the D - as a "dive bomber".

Assuming that we are going to get the G modelled with its two 37mm underwing gun pods, then the description could probably usefully be amended to a more generic "ground attack" (as with the Fw 190) or perhaps even "tank destroyer", rather than "dive bomber", as that latter description was no longer its intended role?

buy some trps and place a few along his likely rally and forming up points. That could really ruin his day. Keep an onboard mortar free for it, even a small one. Bils is great at using covered terrain, make him pay for it.

Here are some shots of the purchase screens of the basic formations and some specialist teams and individual vehicles, in no particular order (you'll see part of my technical difficulties in these). If you would like for me to break open some formations so that you can see their point values, let me know.

(I am also accepting suggestions for a good free screenshot program. Bandicam and Fraps give me screen shots that look like these.)

I see the purchase screens below show the G model as "Strafe," which is fine for me. As for the D model, it was both a dive bomber and later a more generic "ground attack" aircraft, so I think the description for that one is fine. Will be interesting to see how its attack behavior is modeled in-game.

How much would 2 dozen Hetzen (sp?) cost?

Ken und meine Forum BruderN, I believe the plural of Hetzer is "HetzerN".

Of course, my German would be far more fluent had Hitler not invaded Russia in the first place.

Edit: Just read poesel's post. "Hetzer" it is. As I said, my German is about as good as my goosestep.

I'm with sburke, 20mm quad can be devastating. Also, I like to use 88mm Flak as indirect arty support, it packs a punch, but a full battery is probably too expensive overall for this match.

German guy here:

The plural of "Hetzer" is just "Hetzer".

Also, your sentence would have to be "Ken und meine Forum-Brüder"

I took 3 years of German in what we then called Junior High School. We had a choice of French, Spanish or German. The German teacher was hot and coached the cheerleading squad. Spanish and French never stood a chance.

It must have been the uniform.

Well I would like to see soemthing like this:

I think I'm within your setup requirments '( 2500 Points 1 AAA 1Flamethrower)

1 Forward Observer

2 Ju 87 G Strafe

1 Panther G HQ

2 Hetzer (Perhaps just 1 for more infantry)

1 Straggler groupe

1 Company (-) with attached Flamethower

2 20mm Quads on truck.

In a formation like this we have a lot of the new toys, and it is more or less mobile.

The Ju 87 Gs seem to be pretty cheap, and perhabs those 37mm could immobelize some of your opnonents mobile assets early.

All heavy guns have wheels so you should be able to switch positions relativley easy.

Well Panther or not... you are fighting Bill I think a Panther is okay ^^

The weakpoint would be your infantry, but I think a lot of us are curiose about these straggler formations.

PS: I apologize for my bad spelling and grammar.

I like what Callidus87 has picked.

I'd go with the cheapest strafing aircraft option, as noted, the Ju-87G at 26? points. However, I -think- tha just means machineguns, no cannon? (The best points/rarity ratio would be the Ju-87D Strafe at 80 points.)

Since airpower is so fickle, you may not want it (no requirement), but it would be fun if Bil doesn't expect it. And, c'mon, this is a beta demo: the crowd demands blood!

I'd buy MG42's and add them into whatever infantry you can.

How about anti-personnel mines? A few sprinkled on his path early would cause a lot of caution later. Toss a few up front, then more in covered locations near your defense?

Hang on, the G model is the model with the 2 AT cannons. It wouldn't be a 'G' otherwise.

Yes, but...

The D-3 had 7.92 machineguns in the wings (one each side). The D-5 (longer wing span) had 20mm cannon replacing the machineguns.

The Ju-87G had two variants, the G-1 and the G-2. The -1 was based on D-3, the -2 was based on the D-5.

I don't know if the Ju-87G modification removed the existing machinegun or cannon from the appropriate D model. I -think- the G retained the existing armament and just added the 37mm gun pods.

I vote that we let Elvis find out! ;)

AFAIK, I think the opposite is the case: the existing built in wing guns were removed, and the G carried only the 37mm's with 6 rounds of AP per gun.

Like to see it in action though!

2 Fusilier companies

1 flamethrower

1 motorized flak unit of your choice

2 Hetzers

10 anti-tank mines

With any points left over, trucks for ammo and/or a few panzerschrecks

No, the G versions had only the cannon.

Well, criminy! Have him buy a friggen' Luftflotte full of G's!!

Please purchase: 26 points per plane is a price portentiously un-penurious!

(The preceding pronouncement leaves me prostrate.)

Thanks for the instruction on the Ju-87G. This battle could be similar to the account related by Udet about his squadron single-handedly holding back a Soviet counter-attack at Kursk.

Get some.
