Small technical question. A while back there was talk about going to 64bit because of supposed better performance. Have you guys been able to look into that?

That would be my question also: I can see the sense in larger maps - in particular for the modern era game. Then again, I suppose we can expect smaller forces over wider frontages than WW2, however, there's still going to be an increase in memory demands on larger battlefields.

+1 Erwin

The large maps are what I am most looking forward to and combine that with the ammo dumps I am a happy chappy!

It will be interesting to see how the large battles unfold as to when you commit your reserves or when to counter attack.

Any announcement of when we will have Ivan the Russian carrying tanks into battle on his shoulders? Or will I just have to be content with the tanks carrying the conscripts to their doom?

Will the initial EF release allow us to play in snow and other seasonal conditions? Or, will it be limited to spring/summer because that's the historical season of that campaign? I'm wondering if we'll need a snow mod a la Bulge, or whether we'll get Mother Russia in all her seasonal glory from the beginning.

The base game is Summer, June-September. Other seasons will be included in follow-on module/s. You can of-course make visual mods, but the actual effects of seasonal weather and any features dependent upon it will only be implemented when the season is added.

Very cool. Nice surprise to wake up to. Can't wait to hear more about 3.0, Black Sea and Bagration. Sounds like next year is gonna rock!

I wasn't sure if BFC was gonna be able to pull off tank riding but it looks nice. Judging by the vid, I am gonna guess those were placeholder, American uni textures?

Now that AA is back in full, my old CMX1 "I miss it" list is narrowed down to a pittance. I think fire/flame throwers is all that's left on it.

Glad you like what you've seen so far!

1. Not sure if we'll allow Ammo Dumps to be damaged/destroyed. There are "gamey" ramifications that could come from that. In real life you didn't have stockpiles of ammo blowing up all the time at the tactical level. So we're thinking there's some good reasons for that.

Steve

This seems logical and more an issue of terminology. We aren't talking a significant ammo dump with POL as well for a large unit. This seems more a couple crates of ammo.

Is there any thought of being able to acquire additional items that are not currently listed in vehicles or is this strictly limited to what types of equipment can be acquired in 2.0 (For example would grenades be an item to acquire?)

Yeah really. Taking a moment to reflect- if they were to release in May that would make it 3 years from the CMBN release. What have we gotten since then?

Commonwealth

CMFI

Gustav Line

Market Garden

The 2.0 upgrade

Lots of tweaks to everything from MG fire to Tank spotting and infantry AT capability.

Map overlays in the editor

Last night I played Last Defence for the second time to see if I could improve over my first run through. What I still think is the single best enhancement over the last 3 years is the infantry vs armor equation. Tanks are dead meat in close terrain if unescorted.

The biggest issue that seems to be coming out now in the forum is folks can't keep up, we are seeing already that many are having to pick and choose what games/modules they get. It used to be we complained at the slow pace of release, now we complain that the release rate is outpacing financial resources. :D

For those thinking ahead, you'll want to factor in purchasing the 3.0 upgrade for CMBN and CMFI whenever BF gets to it in addition to the game releases they are talking.

(hint you should start saving now, put a couple bucks in a jar every week starting today and you won't have to be hoping for bundles - hell just empty your spare change every night into the jar.)

I think you are right Mord, 2014 is a watershed moment. After all the crap BF has taken over the switch to CMx2, there is absolutely no question that they got it right. The vision they had back over 10 years ago is paying off big time.

Congrats BF and Merry Christmas to yourselves.

Thanks guys! A couple of quick comments:

1. No plans to go to 64 bit any time soon. Not sure it's worth the development hit for the performance gain. Partly because we're dubious the gain would be that big of a deal.

2. 2014 will contain a lot of new stuff, including Packs for both Italy and Normandy. Definitely the new Modern era game and probably the second Western Front Family (Oct 44 - May 45)

3. Yup, the bones described so far are very good ones. But not necessarily all the best ones. Always depends on personal preference :D

4. Initial timeframe for the first Eastern Front release is June - Sept 1944. It will expand from there until the end of the war.

Okay so spare change in the jar is not the best strategy.... though it wouldn't hurt.

Second Western Front meaning Bulge? :)

You are usually hopelessly optimistic Steve, but hell if you weren't we likely wouldn't have CMx2 at all. I'd settle for Bulge in 2015 as it will take Mord that long to do all the unit icons for the Eastern Front and Modern game.
