H2HH Problem?

Recommended Posts

(ignoring what appears to be a post in the wrong thread...)

...it looks like we need some trial and error here to figure out what's going on.

Can some kind person with this problem (h2hh won't work on Win7) try the "tryme" application from here:

http://bit.ly/h2hh-debug

Thanks,

GaJ

I downloaded this GAJ ran it. All that i see is a message in a black box saying..''it seems to be working..yay!''

there is no instructions on what to do next..

OK - this is a bit tricky to explain. Hopefully someone can figure it.

Please go to the folder where you extracted tryme, and right click on tryme.exe

Select "create shortcut".

Right click on the shortcut it created, and select "properties". It should look something like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rnbw8731x0u0rd3/Screenshot%202013-12-24%2014.36.33.png

except your folder location will be different to mine.

What you need to do is edit the "Target". First, put double quotes at each end of it.

Then put a space in front of it.

Then put this in front of that space:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /K

It should end up looking something like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/r73c4x200wwcxf4/Screenshot%202013-12-24%2014.36.50.png

Then... click "Apply" and double click the shortcut.

Hopefully, the ms-dos window stays open and you can tell me what's in it!

Can you right click on the shortcut, select properties, and send me a screenshot.

Meanwhile, what you have captured looks like excellent clues, thanks!

GaJ

Will do later today when i get home from work GAJ. I think i made an error following your instructions somehow. I would imagine it was supposed to run differently to how it did.

Based on the error messages you captured from the dos window, it looks for all the world like H2HH can't read it's "state file" for some reason.

This file should be stored at:

c:\Users\<your username\App Data\Roaming\GreenAsJade\Appstate.txt

Can you see if this file exists, and if you can open it with something like notepad?

Please send it to me.

Meanwhile, try tryme-0.0.4 ... it might also give us some better information.

There's no particular place you have to put H2HH.

Did the dos window stay open better this time?

Unfortunately that message wasn't what I was looking for, can you try 0.0.5?

Thanks!

GaJ

yes the box stayed open and that is all that appeared within it.

Can I check something: this problem didn't start when you changed version of H2HH did it? I'm under the impression that you guys having the problem "didn't change anything, it just stopped working (maybe around the time windows updated)". Is that right?

Anyhow, the error message you showed me tells me that we really need to try to find that file. I might not have given you decent instructions before so let's try a bit better. If this gets too hairy, we can always shout out for someone else to try it :)

First, you need to follow the instructions that are here, which makes sure you can see "hidden" folders (you can turn this off again later if you don't like it):

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/show-hidden-files-in-windows-7/

Then - you need to be looking at the contents of your C: folder, like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8v2pa8ftonl7fs/Screenshot%202013-12-26%2013.55.23.png

Double-click on Users and you should be able to see a folder with your account name on it (I am mgregory):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ukpp3j3fvkqblt/Screenshot%202013-12-26%2013.55.53.png

Double click on this, and you should see a folder called AppData:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ygk6ns6brxz68p/Screenshot%202013-12-26%2014.05.06.png

You won't see AppData unless you did the "show hidden folders" thing I mentioned above.

Inside AppData there should be "Roaming", and inside that there should be GreenAsJade, and inside that there should be H2HHelper ... and inside there there should be AppState.txt:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lr0kx1ijkmzuq5/Screenshot%202013-12-26%2013.58.17.png

First: surely this file must exist, since tryme got past the place where it tests that. If it doesn't, that will be the mystery for us to solve.

The error message you have implies that it does exist. In which case, I need to know what's inside it when H2HH is not working. Can you send it to me? Can you also send me h2hh_log.txt.

Assuming you found it, one other thing you can do is delete it then run H2HH again. H2HH is supposed to create that file if it's not there. Would be good to see if this happens...

That's a bit to get on with :)

Cheers,

GaJ

  • 2 weeks later...

It won't start for me either, not even for a blink. I tried to reach the AppState.txt but in the AppData>Roaming folder there is no H2HH folder for me, nor a GreenAsJade folder as in your screenshot. Any idea why it won't create the folder?.. I have Windows 7 too...

ive had problems with h2h last couple of days. It keeps not uploading correct files and then also stops working altogether. I deleted the appdata file and it restarted fine but then loses track of the turn orders. Its now stopped working again but I just noticed theres a newer version available, mine says its 2.4.4.

Will upload the new one and see how I get on.

ps I had the auto-update feature ticked so how come the software stayed out of date?

Can i echo what sburke stated earlier..this is a marvellous product and i would be lost without it. So thanks for keeping it going and updated GAJ :)

GAJ is it possible to have the game launch from the save file straight into the game? If you know what i mean? At the moment the save file launches the game but only to the saved filed screen.
