Pistols for Fallschirmjaegers?

Recommended Posts

That sucks, since thats what they get pistols for, to do not have to use their mausers in melee.

Are you sure about that? I understood that they got pistols as a way of mitigating the absurd weapons bundles the Germans used when conducting airborne ops. With a pistol on their hip they'd have at least something until they could find and recover a bundle somewhere in the DZ.

But they didn't conduct many drops in Italy (yes, I know; Primasole Bridge. One (1) != many)

Yes, the pistols were the FJ troops' preferred weapon in drops because they couldn't carry their larger weapons on the descent. They were standard issue to all ranks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt they would have given their pistols up just because they stopped jumping out of airplanes once they were in Italy and NW Europe -- CMFI really ought to have given them pistols in Italy (and in CMBN once that game has them too).

Actually, my FJs in a recent battle were pulling out pistols quite a bit...but I think they were weapon teams, mostly, but I am sure at close quarters a few jaegers pulled them out too. I

'll have to keep my eyes open next time I use them...which will be mostly forever and ever from CMGL on....

Can't tell whether these men have sidearms, since one favored configuration seemed to be wearing the holster and the left and using a crossdraw technique. Interestingly, these guys in Normandy have Beretta SMGs!

By contrast, the FJ here are carrying pistols (several closed holsters visible). If the caption's to be believed, these are also at Normandy.
