Wishlist for next CM Engine:

- A dedicated server executable for hosting multiplayer. Playback movies created by the server which all players pull down at turn end. Server defineable options for the game such as time window length for turn submissions.

- 2v2, 3v3 etc - allowing scenarios where one player commands allied armour, one commands allied infantry etc. Combined with C2 so that each player only gets spotting contacts from their own command and other players' contacts are dripped through via C2 (or not).

- Friendly AI forces and friendly AI plans

- Enabling the AI to use suppression, new AI SOPs for assaulting occupied buildings etc

- Force compositions in XML which can be imported into Quick Battles. Would allow player to create eg a 1300 point Wermacht July 44 NWTO combined arms force which could be downloaded by others to go up against in their QBs.

- Add ability to give elements of the AI's QB force a % chance to appear, so you don't know exactly what you are facing eg give the AI 1-4 PzIVs

Real -300 s & Inflatable S-300 dummy & netting camouflage ;)

Optional Irregulars with video cameras strapped to their chest rig.

We all know CMSF- v.3.0 is on the long list of project development but a progress update would be appreciated.

"Note that we do intend to redo the original Shock Force content. It's going to be a huge undertaking because of all the changes that have taken place since the original engine was made. Same reason there's been no Upgrade offer for it. We would if we could, but the amount of work that needs to go into that is almost as if we're doing it from scratch. That game will be called Shock Force 2 and it will follow Black Sea."

It seems a 2008 storyline is the plan. I suspect support for a present day NATO intervention into Syria would not be too difficult to support from there.

This old thread is worth a reskim, although you need to ignore a lot of the bigger flights of fancy.

But Steve has now very lately reasserted the quote above, that BFC's intent is indeed to redo all of CMSF using the new engine.

Steve told me:

“2017 is Battlefront’s official 20th year of existence and our calendar for this year contains plenty of good stuff.

For the last 5 years or so our plan is to release one major and several smaller releases within a calendar year.

For 2017 the big effort is a full revitalization of the entire CM Shock Force Family to current game engine standards.

For the smaller releases you’ll soon see a Battle Pack for CMBS and not long after that a second Module for CMFI.  The first module for CMRT might make it into 2017, but might be just over the line in 2018.

Those of you who have followed us over the years know that there’s always more going on than meets the eye, therefore it is safe to assume there’s more for 2018 that we’re not talking about yet.”

Ergo, no CMBS mideast module, a whole new game family, albeit recycling older content.

Thanks @LongLeftFlank for fwd us this content. God damn., can u imagine a CMSF II with the current standards + probably a few more bells and whistles - because let's face it - BFC always releases new full scale games with more content that pleases the eye and satisfies the heart.

do you think we can officially ask BFC on these fora for an update ?

It is after all April'17.

and pls , no aprils fool jokes allowed :)

"There will be no "upgrade" for CMSF. We are going to "port" the setting to the newer version of the engine. Which means you'll get 100% the same stuff as all the other CM games. And that is precisely why this is going to be a heavy load of work. TO&E, models, textures, terrain format, etc. have all changed dramatically over the years. There's pretty much nothing in CMSF that won't need significant reworking to get it to function in the current game engine."

Steve

Sorry about the weird fonts in my posts btw. Android phone.

Workload is the issue. And, to put it kindly, some of the CMSF content and maps won't age well. The design community has come a long way since 2007....
