Split squads morale hit

I know that when you split a squad during a game they take a morale hit.

However, do they take a morale hit if they are split in the editor?

Do they take a morale hit if you split squads during the initial set-up turn?

Yes. It comes just from the squad being a half-squad rather than full, it doesn't occur dynamically when some action is performed, or care how it got that way.

Thanks guys, but just wondering: I've read somewhere of the notion that once a squad has been split during a game, its lowered morale is not raised back to its pre-split level when the squad is reunited. I sometimes temporarily split squads to move them on carriers, then re-join them. I've not noticed any obvious lingering morale problems, but would like to know whether the game engine was constructed to work both ways. Anyone know for certain?

It's been a long time since I read the manual, but AFAIR they do not ever recover what they lost.

Thanks for the reply Erwin - I'll keep a closer eye on their morale in future and report back if it becomes clear.

I am pretty sure about it. I would try not to split em unless they are already Vets or better and preferably under control of a Co HQ that has at 2 heart/morale, so they still gain a morale level even after a split.
