Lt Belenko
I really like David Baldacci's book "The Winner." It has nothing to do with WWII but with a name like Baldacci he's probably of Italian descent - if that qualifies. Just something to fill the void before the release.
Placebo
Bitter Victory: The Battle for Sicily 1943 by Carlo D'Este Lots of detail and very readable. This is a really good read, only a 1/3 through but loads on all the main players and thinking at the time.
sdp
Some more interesting reading, in german; Sizilien im Sommer 1943, Ein Kriegsbericht (link to a doc-file on Panzer-Archiv.de) A personal account of a 20-year-old Pz Grenadier of 104th RGT/15. PzgrenDiv. Short, but still interesting. and there's of course; Franz Kurowski, "Das Tor zur Festung Europa“ with a focus on the german view of the delaying action in Sicily and Southern Italy. Lots of photos. cheers/ sdp
