  1. I am experiencing a peculiar problem in CM Red Thunder: Whenever I try make a save that would normally overwrite a previous save with the same name - then the game doesn´t save the turn. This has begun since installing the Fire and Rubble module. For instance I last night lost about an hour´s worth of setup "work" in the first battle of Night at the Opera. I had opened the campaign and saved the game right away as "CMFR Night at the Opera Axis b1 150" - and when I took a break an hour later I saved again with the same file name. But when I opened the game, nothing had been saved - and when I checked the time of the save file I could see that the original file had not been overwritten. I have now tried saving different games and the result is always the same: When I give a savefile a name that already exists, then the game ignores the save. But: I have also noticed that every time I make such an unsuccesful attempt to save, the game creates a tempfile (TMP) at exactly the same time - in the main Red Thunder folder. For instance: tempfile u5.tmp or tempfile q.tmp Is there anything I can do - or do I need to reinstall? I do of course have save files - though only the original versions of each
  2. With the WW2 titles I can't seem to use indirect fire from my on map Priest's, Hummels and Wespes via a forward observer. Oddly the only self-propelled arty that I can use as its role is the "Grille" in CMBN. What's the point of bringing these? Tanks, tank destroyers and assault guns seem to be far more effective in every way. They aren't particularly well armored, so you can't get them anywhere close enough. Are they more accurate? I suppose just park them on a hill and use direct fire?
  3. Hi guys, I was making some little experiments with CM and Blender but for the time I have some problems with textures of my project 001 for the time is a bad start I know... Project 004 I want to replace the UK Bedford to a Chevrolet or Ford Canadian truck... <img src= here another view <img src= Project 005 us helmet with chinstrap behind the helmet <img src= but like the german helmet when the file is ready in the game the texture doesn t work ! 5. Does CM2 portray Jäger Division infantry type units or have they not been added? I see selections for Panzerjäger battalion under German Army: Infantry, but wasn't sure how you'd portray the infantry part of the formation. For instance the 114th Jäger Division's OOB looks like this: Jäger Regiment 721 Jäger Regiment 741 Reconnaissance Battalion 114 Artillery Regiment 661 Pionier Battalion 114 Panzerjäger Battalion 114 Signals Battalion 114 Reserve Battalion 114 Supply detachment 114 What formation would you use to represent a piece of say the 721st Regiment; elements from a normal Grenadier Battalion? Pioneer, Panzerjäger, and Supply all have obvious choices in the editor. Mord.
  6. This original scenario has been randomized and expanded so that no two games will play alike, and so you and the AI opponent have more forces at your disposal making for a more intense experience. There are 5 different AI plans and all reinforcements have been set for random deployment times. As this is an alteration of an existing scenario you can expect to play the same objectives and general flow of the battle but with more opposition and some surprises. The reinforcements have been designed to keep you on your toes and to counter those of your AI opponent. However don't get complacent or throw away your forces - you will need them. Feedback welcome and appreciated. you can email me at xxnightopsxx@gmail.com Thanks to the scenario author for the original scenario and Battlefront for one of the best and most unique war game simulations around. 13. Recently kohlenklau who is heading up the mod team of the Finnish Mod asked me to contribute a short campaign to go with the mod pack. Below are the details. The Battle of Tali-Ihantala The Battle of Tali-Ihantala is a CMRT Mini-Campaign depicting the actions of the Finnish IV Army Corps during June -July 1944 on the Karelian Isthmus. It was designed originally with version 3 of CMRT but was finished with version 4. However none of the new features in version 4 were incorporated into this campaign. It should play out fine in either version but let me know if problems arise. As always let me know of any corrections or problems as the campaign has only been quick tested. The battles depicted in this campaign, which is part of the Continuation War had been going since 1941. It focuses mainly on the actions of Finnish 18th Division and several supporting units. I tried to tag each unit with the correct Finnish abreviations as well as included the actual commanders but if any of our Finnish players see anything totally screwed up let me know. Below is a listing of the core units: Core Units: 1 P JR48 (1 Battalion Infantry Regiment 48) Eversti (Col.) Vaino Forsberg 2 P JR48 (2 Battalion Infantry Regiment 48) 2 P JR6 (2 Battalion Infantry Regiment 6) 2 P JR12 (2 Battalion Infantry Regiment 12) Eversti (Col.) Yrjo Hanste 3 P JR13 (3 Battlion Infantry Regiment 13) (Company of Swedish Volunteers) 1 Er.P 16 (Seperate Battalion 16) 3 Jaeger JP (Jaeger Battalion) Eversti (Col.) Albert Puroma 1 Er.Pion.K (Pioneer Battalion) Everstiluutnantti (Lt. Col.) Reino Inkinen Panssaridivisoona ( 2 Rynnakkotykki Assault Gun Battalion) Kenraalimajuri (Maj. Gen.) Ruben Lagus Sturm Brigade 303 (German Assault Gun Unit) Hauptman Friedrich Scherer 1/SG3 (Lufftwaffe)(Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey) Ju-87D Ground Attack Aircraft 1/SG5 (Lufftwaffe)(Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey) Fw-190F8 Ground Attack Aircraft Soviet Forces: 45th Guards Rifle Division 63rd Guards Rifle Division 27th Tank Regiment 30th Armoured Brigade Campaign Tree: 1. The Assault on Tali 2. Portinhoikka Crossroads 3. Counterattack at Tali 4. The Road Block at Ihantala This campaign features the excellent Finnish Mod Pack designed by the team put together by kohlenklau and all credit goes to them. The mod pack is included in the download. I added a Finnish Stug III mod to the pack to represent the Finnish armoured units. The mods are tagged for this specific cmapaign and should not interfere with any other campaigns or battles with the exception of the Finnish voice pack included in the mod folder. Remove this folder after playing or your German pixeltruppen may speak Finnish. All the maps were hand created by me based on what information I could find and google maps. Hopefully they represent the battle locations reasonably accurate. Also be sure to read the campaign designer notes as I have added some historical information about the battle. Hope it proves enjoyable Michael Here is the link to the campaign. Just place the mod folder into the dataz folder in your CMRT directory and the .cam file into the campaign directory. https://www.dropbox.com/s/i9d5icpdod3r0vs/The Battle of Tali Ihantala.zip?dl=0
  14. Howdy. Happy Friday. I have converted 85 of the Red Thunder QB Maps not found as duplicates in CM Black Sea over to be usable in CM Black Sea. All are ready to go as you can imagine. AI plans are not perfect as they are designed for WW2 combat, but they are workable and more content is always a bonus right? All credit for original creation and distribution of these maps goes to BFC. Download Link @Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ilbru2acockn615/Red_Thunder_QB_Maps.rar?dl=0 Cheers.
  15. Hi there I have just lost an opponent for that after only about 8 turns or something, he reportedly had been having some problems with loading the scenario. I don't mind the experience being higher than mine, but prefer someone who haven't played the scenario before to retain FoW for both sides. Iron or elite level, no other house rules as far as I know unless you happen to have something to put forward, I should be open as long as it promotes realism of simulation. I might also be looking for opponents for "Minsk Express" and "Gog & Magog" provided my current RT opponent doesn't want to take me on in those.
  16. I was wondering where BF stood with regard to fire. I find it coming up in accounts of the Eastern Front. I know it was included in CMx1, I know this might be beating a dead horse... But again, I think fire should be improved within the game. I say improved, as I have seen it within a battle myself. I will include a screen shot to show you what I mean.... An Ot-34 hit a house full of Germans with about 3 long flame bursts. I'd imagine the house would become destroyed. (destroyed= un- occupy-able) You can even see the smoke coming off the fire, we're almost there!! And incase anyone doubts the veracity of my previous statements, here's a picture of the in game attack that set the house on fire (it was actually 4 long bursts)... And finally, here's what the house actually looks like, from the opponent's point of view (this was after our ceasefire) : ----------------- *** My only other question/comment is... can we fix the trees within the game? I understand they are abstracted, sometimes I find myself walking or driving trying to figure out LOS into the woods near me... its hard to see. But I, and I will cite sources if anyone's interested, keep coming across mention of entire forests being destroyed by Soviet and German firepower. I was reading specifically about Operation Bagration, and apparently in the fighting over Tower and Grenadier Hill during the Battle of Narva (at the Tannenberg Line specifically) : "The morning of 29 July began with the preparatory artillery fire of 25,000 shells fired by the Soviets. The bombardment covered the Tannenberg Line in a dust cloud. The forest on the Sinimäed Hills was entirely destroyed, with the trees cut down to a height of two–three metres. " (Sinimäed 1944: Battles of World War II in Northeast Estonia). EDIT: PS... we already have the 2-3 metre trees in the game (under doodads, or whatever its called.) We're half way there on that as well. Again, I know its abstracted, but maybe we could get a destroyed forest tile as a compromise.
  17. My first CAAR (Comic After Action Report) was in the format of a DAR presented as a comic. To introduce some variety and also make this one a bit more like a comic, it will be presented less as an AAR and more as a story, following the actions and adventures of one man, a Russian soldier called Dmitry ("Dima") Ivanov. Of course this is also going to present the battles as well, so the AAR aspect is still included, just not the sole objective. Some of you wanted to hear more about Lt. Warner, Cpl. Dietrich, and Sgt. Hirsch from my first CAAR; they will be back in another CAAR. At the time of this one, Warner and his boys are in Normandy, and later, in Holland during Market-Garden. Once again, Kohlenklau is my partner in this, and I thank him for being a fun opponent in the battles and a patient friend in the delays doing these sometimes introduces.
  18. Seeking an opponent for CMBN, CMFI or CMRT. Any game will do. Looking to play a small battle. Move frequency will be 2 to 3 days, depending on my work load. I am not an expert player and consider my myself extremely green. If interested just PM me!
  19. Does the engine seems cleaner? faster? That said, the units SEEM to not do as many DUMB things (path'ing).. sadly tho, we still get one-shot wonder "Heinz" with his 88mm Pak 41/43 penetrating an IS-2 at 4k M, but I digress.. I was trying to explain how hard it can be to modify an existing game engine and move it up to higher and higher fidelities today with another friend of mine in software development. It's not easy, and I think we see this quite clearly with CMRT vs. CMBN. Not to say that CMBN isn't fun, it's just that when I play CMRT I have a much better experience with larger maps, cleaner color palette, etc. (I know you can make large maps in CMBN, but the speed and fidelity aren't there IMO). I wonder what other people think? I mean, I am a Ost Front fan boy, but still, I enjoy the challenge of Normandy and the different TO&E in that game (as well as it's lost cousin CMFI), but i'm left wondering if the game experience isn't as good as when I play H2H on CMRT.. which I love to do and it seems to have a far better outcome game wise.. Do others agree? I mean, how hard is it to add tank riders to CMBN? I would think NOT hard, but clearly hard enough that it wasn't added.. and it wasn't because of military doctrine..it was because the bits and bytes don't play nice together I'm sure.. I mean, add it in in CMRT and not in CMBN? Not trolling.. rather curious if others think the game experience in CMRT is better than the other titles in the CMx2 engine?
  20. Welcome to the grand opening of the New CMRT Theater! I thought it would be cool to start a thread similar to a screen shot thread dedicated to cinematic CM vids now that the forum has video imbed feature. I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent vid created by Macisle, and thought it would be a good idea to open the CM Theater thread as a collection point for those to show off their video editing / directing talent, and to make everyone's movies easily found and seen. Although I do not have any video editing programs personally I can enjoy watching what others have made. Artistic style using video editors, or unusual/ interesting things that happen in the game movies of any length will be the focus. Macisle's vid is a good example of what the Theater would like to show as opposed to AAR type vids with voice over commentary by the player. So, if you have a good CMRT vids, or know of any such as this one please post it for us to enjoy and find it easily, and to build our CM Theater collection. Please remember to give credit to the movie maker if you did not make it yourself. Get the pop corn popping, the beer head foaming, and enjoy the show! Hill 527 by Macisle
  21. Okay, this is embarrassing. I'm currently playing a PBEM game of The Passage, and CMH has wiped the chat log, so I'm not sure if my opponent is receiving my chats. I'm also not quite sure who I'm playing, and if I gained the opponent here, or at FGM. So if anything of this sounds familiar please message me here, or e-mail me. Oh, and if anyone is looking for a game of CMRT, or any other CM games (minus the CMBN vehicle pack), feel free to message me.
