circling back to our old pal Stalin -- did y'all know he even murdered the genius that designed the diesel engine for the T34?   I mean, he was killing everyone

I could recommend a dozen books to try to change your opinion, but it seems as though you are not prepared to believe anything. So I guess my question is, why do you believe in the current efforts to rehabilitate Stalin?
If I could recommend one book on this specific subject, however, it would be this one:

Good points, but it takes two to tango and German forces were not in the same condition in June 1941 as they would have been under different circumstances. Defeat in the Battle of Britain and bailing out Mussolini in Africa and the Balkans took significant punch out of the German forces. But the main cost of these diversions was time. The extra month or so used by the Germans to take out the opposition in the Balkans would have made a lot of difference. So it is good for us all that Hitler was infatuated with "Il Duce."

Trying to compare Trump with Hitler or Stalin as some attempt to do is rather silly and says more about the intellect and sheltered life experience of those people than anything else.

Lunatic indeed. But Stalin was no fool. His plan to push Britain, France and Germany into another bloodbath worked, but wasn't followed by another trenchwar, so he could attack Germany in the back. That's why Stalin for a large part is responsible for WW 2. He easily could have made an alliance with France and Britain, but he tried to be smart.
And without those numbers you mention, build up in 20 years of preparation for total war, the Red Army could/would have been beaten. That's the point many Russians are making now. Without Stalin's terror Russia would have been wiped out.
In Hitler's view Germany didn't have any other choice than attack Stalin as soon as possible. I think the Germans knew more about the Red army and Russian industry than we are led to believe now. They had enough Baltic, Ukrainian and other spies working for the Abwehr, even in heavily guarded Russia itself. But Hitler knew he would never get a better opportunity than in the summer of 1941. It wasn't a blind gamble, it was an inevitable next step for him. Both Stalin and Hitler knew  that they were enemies to the death and it was just a question of who was forced to attack first. Stalin was prepared to attack in 1940, if the situation in the West developed into another WW 1-style trenchwar, but in 1941 he knew the Germans were coming for him. Smart fellow,  that Joseph Vissarionovich. .

And then Stalin did everything possible to wreck that huge military.  Killed all the officers.  Forced them to defend dense, highly vulnerable forward lines.  Continually gave idiot "no retreat" and "attack at once" orders with no idea what he was doing.  So Soviet Union should have been ready for war, but losing 3.3 million men in three months rather says something different.
If Stalin hadn't killed most of his officers and if the armed forces were used with even marginal competence, then Germany would've been lucky to get to Smolensk. The Russians had numbers but were controlled by an utterly anti-competent lunatic.

I often us an arch when I have units in hiding and want them to get out from hiding only when enemy troops come inside the arch.

Nah, 'fraid not. The first time I played it a couple of years back I was running Engine 3. And if you read the post that Myles made above you'll see that the problem existed when the Battle Pack was released, and that he was hoping that it had been fixed by now.

Thanks Sgt. Squarehead, I checked it out. I think that might be my next scenario. I don't know who designed that one, but I love the historical background that was provided. This is really what I enjoy about the Combat Mission series and this scenario developer has hit the nail right on the head.

This is a terrifically made player made campaign featuring historic missions about the Canadians attacking dug-in SS positions at Carpriquet airfield.  It does feature some of Hobart's funnies most notably flail tanks in its 2nd scenario.

There is a battle included in the pack called "Hobart's Funnies" which makes use of the Churchill flame throwers. If you want more "funnies" to play with you might want to take a look at a player made campaign called "For King and Country" if you've not already tried it.

I think that the Battle Pack was great idea in principle. Especially considering how few new battles stemmed from the Vehicle Pack. I think that where Jon fell down was putting so much effort into the six fictional Linnet battles, and the Waterloo one. I'd have preferred a top notch campaign, and fewer, but more closely historical battles.

I haven't seen any posts from the designer Jon Sowden in a long time. He put a lot of work into the Battle Pack, just a shame that the glitches in the campaign didn't get sorted. And it would be nice if he was still around to chip in to this thread.

I'm not sure why the campaign designer has made this mission quite so tough as he has. From what I've read although the British had to fight in the streets of Vernon, and faced some dug in forces during the river crossing. But in clearing the forest they only met scattered resistance. Also, I think at least part of this map was taken by the Worcesters.

oh, three cromwells.  I thought that's what would be in a troop.  Not much for the task at hand.  You are making this battle sound fun!  I am thinking about unpacking this battle from the campaign and giving myself more cromwells and armored cars.
Good luck and thanks for the continuing updates

It seems like I didn't get punished for losing the first one, so I might continue on w this campaign sometime.  If you try to win this you'll probably get awfully chewed up.  Unless lots of cromwells.  Anyone know how many cromwells show up?
Good luck Bluecher.  I actually had my main force moving to the center left, where on your picture it says "phase line goose".  I was bypassing the german armor.  It's a long walk but was pretty easy up to the point where I quit.  Maybe there was stiff opposition ahead, maybe not?  I got to the open field w very minimal casualties (where your map shows "(30 pts)"

There will sometimes be faded icons representing dead, wounded, or missing enemy, normally, but not always these will disappear completely as the battle goes on.
As for what you are seeing on the results screen, that doesn't sound right to me. If the objective has been ticked off then you should get 90 points. It has been a long time since I tried this campaign, hopefully someone who has played it recently might be able to shed some light.

The numbers of troops shouldn't make any difference. One jeep crew, can "Occupy" an objective. In my book, if it is ticked, you get the points. So it seems s bit strange.

It's a mistake with that scenario.  If you have a green check then you control that objective and should get the points for it, but the campaign creator missed adding the points for that objective when he made it.  So you get nothing for your efforts to take it.
As shown by the attached thread, I reported this issue nearly four years ago.  The campaign creator acknowledged it and said he'd upload a fixed version.
Sadly, there were other niggling issues with that campaign: a scenario in which the OOB for an infantry platoon can change every time you play it.  Sometimes it will have an attached 51mm mortar team and other times it won't.  (It was as tough scenario that I restarted several times in order to win it, but also had to restart numerous other times just to get that mortar which I found to be very important to having any chance to win.)  And another scenario that has flamethrower teams without flamethrowers.  When I saw that I threw in the towel.   That was four years ago.  Maybe those issues have been fixed in one of the patches/upgrades.
