  1. Thanks Sgt. Squarehead, I checked it out. I think that might be my next scenario. I don't know who designed that one, but I love the historical background that was provided. This is really what I enjoy about the Combat Mission series and this scenario developer has hit the nail right on the head.
  2. Thanks Myles Keogh! I will download that one. I will definitely be looking into that campaign. Right now I am playing the first battle (alphabetically) in CMFI - Alvano Anvil. Having some fun with this one.
  3. Great points Warts 'n' all, I would love a campaign or at least some historical battles where we could actually use Hobart's funnies in action.
  4. I agree. It would be nice if somebody could re-look this campaign, remaster it, maybe even add another. I would certainly purchase it, if it were not buggy.
  5. Going back to Myles Keogh's comment earlier in this thread. Deciding not to proceed with the campaign as I suspect that the issues he identified years ago have never been addressed - too bad. I was really looking forward to playing a British campaign after not playing this game in a number of years. Is there any reason to expect that these issues could be fixed in the future? Well, there is always the South African campaign in R2V...
  6. Hello danfrodo, I ended up stopping the game early after running into hellacious German resistance on the final objectives. I believe that the Germans have more combat power in this scenario than the British - a lot of capability on last objectives; in addition to having the terrain advantage and operating from prepared fortifications. Have to check this out, but I am betting the British did not succeed in this endeavor in the real thing. Then I had to keep restarting the next scenario in the campaign until I got a full platoon - with platoon HQ and mortar. There is some kind of randomness that gives you less than a complete platoon most times when you go to the second scenario in this campaign. To tell you the truth, I am a disappointed (and a little frustrated) at how things ended up, but I did have some fun. Might switch to a different campaign now - thinking it over. Always thought the British attacked with overwhelming superiority in firepower and numbers - definitely not the case here. What would Monty say?
  7. I am sure I am not the only one who has experienced this issue. I suspect this has to do with Windows 10. Here is the issue: my game files for CM: Red Thunder, Fortress Italy, and Final Blitzkrieg are stored separately under User, Owner, Documents, etc. The rest of the files for these games are in the Program (86x) file. All of the files - including all of the game files for CM: Battle for Normandy are located under Documents, Battlefront, etc. (I might have done this one myself, can't remember). For anyone who has problem finding game files in Windows 10, the quick solution is easy: simply type in game files in the windows search block and they will all pop up. My question is - how do I bring all my files together in one place without messing anything up? Thanks and Cheers!
  8. Count me in! What about Seelow Heights? Hope that one is covered.
  9. Thanks danfrodo, It is a little bit like being in the army, all the wiz-bang stuff usually takes place when you are too tired (wet, cold/hot and hungry) to enjoy it! Cheers!
  10. Thanks danfrodo, The Cromwell troop has three vehicles. I am continuing moving on my three axes of advance - dealing now with two (might be three) counterattacks. An infantry platoon with arty support on Obj DON (Sawmill), Arty fire on my small occupying force on Obj BEER (Chateau), and an infantry force (suspect platoon strength) attempting to infiltrate along the right flank of D Company heading towards the Chateau - I think. My "center force" - A Company - is almost at Obj CHARLIE (no enemy contact so far) and supporting mortar fire is about to fall on an enemy MG position protecting Obj ACK from Company B's attack at the far side of the field (where the German icon is). My scheme of maneuver is to try to draw German reserves toward my A Company push at CHARLIE. I hope this will clear the way for an armored push on ACK by B Company and the Cromwells. Next step is to link-up with D Company in Bois Jerome, then back-track to clean up the Germans in the pocket (CHARLIE and JELLALABAD). At this phase, C Company will begin to pressure its front to try to keep the Panzer IVs where they are (JELLALABAD), so they can be taken out from behind. Complex plan, I know, but this is like fighting three battles at once.
  11. Current SITREP: So I am down to under 30 minutes left in the scenario. I tried to follow the guidelines for the scenario at first - leapfrogging companies toward the JELLALABAD Objective, while sending B Company to Objective Don. Very slow moving, but makes for some excitement when contact is made. After encountering two Panzer IVs and a platoon-plus of infantry on Obj JELLALABAD - as well as taking some heavy losses from arty en-route, I decided to use arty and smoke (in sequence) to suppress the enemy at JELLALABAD. The arty - full blast of 25 pounders - did a number on the infantry. Since I did not have my tanks yet, I tried to advance PIATS - using cover of smoke - to take out the Panzer IVs. This did not go well - although it did force the panzers back over the crest of the hill. They kept backing-up as my Tommies fired PIATs. The panzers are still there, however, and now I have less PIATs... So I decided to avoid enemy strength and go for an indirect approach - sending my tanks, once they arrived, on an end-run over Objective DON (which I had already taken) towards Objective ACK, reinforcing B Company. I used smoke from 51mm mortars to get A Company across the stream to advance on Obj CHARLIE, while D Company (reinforced by the two remaining armored cars - mines!) exploited the woods to skirt the panzers to the east (right) - taking the Chateau (Obj BEER) - en route to Bois Jerome. I left C Co, the under-strength company, in a defensive / blocking position on JELLALABAD. Maybe it will be able to exploit forward as the situation develops. In the meantime, I am fighting off a platoon-sized counterattack on Obj DON (maybe that is why I did not get the 90 points?). My plan is to either leverage the panzers back off Obj JELLALABAD as I advance on both flanks and behind them, or attack them from all sides once I have them cut off - we'll see. I am suspecting that the enemy will get a vote on all of this as well. There is also the time factor. I have included the map image below to illustrate the situation.
  12. Myles Keogh, Thanks for the insights from your earlier experience with this campaign. Seems like the glitches you identified have not been addressed - at least as far as my own experience is concerned. Wart 'n' All, I am very interested in what develops as you play this campaign - especially as it relates to Objective Don.
  13. Hello danfrodo, It would be interesting to see if you experience the same issue after taking Objective Don.
  14. Thanks MOS:96B2P, I have been having my Tommies comb the area, but I am coming up with nothing - its not that big of an objective area. The Objective is marked checked off in green in the ceasefire results, just no points.
  15. I guess if there was still a German hiding somewhere in the objective area it would not be ticked, right?
  16. Thanks Warts 'n' all, I also took Objective Beer (the Chateau) - I currently have an entire company there and it shows both the check mark and gives me 90 points for occupying that objective. So maybe it has to do with the number of troops located there? I will be moving on to the other objectives now, so it will be interesting to see if I lose the 90 points after I take most of the company off Objective Beer as I advance further.
  17. I know it is not what you were referring to, but am hoping this might help somebody remember the title of the book you are searching for.
  18. I've been enjoying playing this large-scale battle, but have also gotten a little curious about how to "occupy" objectives. I have an under strength platoon on Objective Don (Sawmill) and it is still showing two transparent icons for German squads there - when there are clearly no more Germans there. That made me curious, so I wanted to see how I was doing so far in the game. I clicked ceasefire (after saving game under different title of course). The game results show a check mark for Objective Don, but zero points... I am guessing that is because I don't have enough troops occupying it. My question is, how may troops are needed to get credit for occupying an objective? Or is something else the issue?
