  1. That's what Putin wants us to believe. What about Politkovskaya? And plenty others who were poisoned, killed, tortured and/or imprisoned for speaking out. Not to mention the string of assassinations that happened the past few years? I don't see why our own CIA, CSIS, etc. don't organize, train and protect these people.
  2. I think US/EU/NATO can expedite lasting peace, here. Why not help organize the Opposition with our many clandestine services? Alienated oligarchs, officers and officials are prime candidates for informants. The objective being not only to topple the Tsar, but also ensure the following regime is pro-West. It will be necessary to keep them on a short leash, at least for the foreseeable future. We don't have to look far for examples of pro-Putin politicians getting extra support from their friends abroad. Why can't we do the same? Finally get those alphabet agencies to use their funding for something positive?
  3. Bloody hell! It's even mortar launched! Soon they'll have anti-tank air-hogs! High tech c-uav stuff is all well and good, and must be something everyone must look into. However, it seems that age old problems of logistics and planning can erase any tech advantage. And pray that the next administration doesn't plan to scrap it.
  4. Yeah. Let's say you destroy all radar guided AA, and all aircraft. If they have modern manpads, what can you do? Any low flying aircraft can be shot down with ever improving infrared missiles. 3km-4km will be the floor for 'safe' operations. Makes all LOS attacks dangerous and you'd still have to rely on stand-off attacks -- or clear all the infantry.
  5. They should crowdfund a supplement to that -- I know, I'd pitch in. Where's Dog the Bounty Hunter when you need him? Normally, I'd never encourage violence. But why don't they take him out like Kennedy or Bin Laden? Surely a megalomaniacal war criminal in control of a nuclear arsenal is everyone's problem? I'm with you on this one. I was thinking how WW1's human and economic cost precipitated the german-funded communist take-over. I am hoping the post-Putin reality is a brighter one, not a darker one, though. Surely if they can place puppets in power, we can too?
  6. I really hope you're right. Putin, and his administration, shouldn't be allowed to stay in power.
  7. Armed Forces of Ukraine are my favourite faction to play. I've completed Shield of Kiev -- great, but difficult, campaign. I'd be grateful, if someone can recommend another one?
  8. I've had something similair, when I tried playing CM without its Documents folder. I suggest doing a clean reinstall.
  9. Hope those 3 planes actually contained 7.8 mil worth of lethal aid -- rather than evaporated into gold flakes on someone's poutine (the food, not the dude). All jokes aside, appreciate the info.
  10. Panther had a teething period, like all machines. New drivers had very little experience. The punch line is that there was also a shortage of spare parts. The result was that many of their tanks were sitting in workshops, including P. IV's. Standardization of parts and chassis could allow for more operational vehicles. This could save time on retraining crews, too. If they also standardized their Axis allies, they could optimize manufacturing, training and maintenance, further. I doubt even shipments of leo 2s could have saved the Third Reich. What they should have dropped was Hitler and his National Socialists.
  11. 17 USD? I can buy myself a 750ml of Jameson for that money (not even CC or JD), or 1g of decent BC kush. What a rip-off...
  12. Wunderbar! Can't wait for the next pre-order! I think I overheard rumors of a new Cold War module, any truth to that? Or should I get my proverbial ears checked?
  13. A toxic person is someone who constantly demands chemical warfare be modeled, in-game. Maybe biological too. Actually full-on NBC, 'cause there were cases of polonium poisoning, as well. Ie. Marie Currie or Dr Thrax. Alternatively, it can also refer to USMC personnel that have not been issued with newer non-toxic MREs and/or writing utensils.
  14. Soviet tactics do work in scenarios designed for them. Cold War has the only training campaign that I failed -- specifically the Counter-Attack mission. I try my best to minimize casualties, and get 1:10+ ratios. However, they just race across the entire map and win via touch objectives. I'd call this cheating, if it wasn't doctrine. I'm guessing they didn't tell you about the taxes... or the housing crisis. Yeeesh!
  15. Heinlein's Starship Troopers wouldn't work without nukes, or underground combat. Verhoeven one would work, and I think Slitherine has the rights to it. Virtually any well-thought-out table-top tactics game would fit well. Star Wars is literally WW2 in space, and that would sell well. Something like Stargate, XCom or Man in High Castle could already use a lot of the existing CM assets.
  16. Version seems to be the right one. Tried another reinstall on Steam, this time with a cleaner that removed saved games + settings. Same deal.
  17. No mods. Brand new install. Maybe some files are left in documents? IDK Looked on the repository and found reskins for virtually Ukrainian vehicles except BRDM2. I may try installing the BFC version instead, when I have time.
  18. Good to know. Then it means it's not on my end. Does anyone have a replacement texture? I'm not picky -- just don't want black-hole turrets.
  19. Ditto, Elvis... My buddy and I are huge Asimov nerds. He read all the books, and I read the Foundation and Robots series. We're watching this series together -- at episode 5 right now. We're puzzled by why they made so many unnecessary changes to the story and the characters. The production value, acting and directing are all alright (not Star Trek: Discovery). But why did they add all these silly elements to the story? Clone emperors? Robot wars? Random terrorist attacks? ALIENS?! Salvor Hardin was a suave Trader, and master manipulator, who said "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." In this show, she's essentially Commander Sheppard. Kicking ass and taking names. Demerzel was the real power keeping the Trantor Empire together. The Emperors were figureheads. In the show, she's essentially a glorified nanny? And lets the Emperors randomly destroy planets, in fits of erratic rage? I have no problem with their gender swaps, and their actresses do a good job. However, these are not the characters from the books. The script over-wrote unique and cool characters into predictable clichés. Without going into spoilers... you know when the most important character gets randomly assassinated, by a close friend? Felt like they purposefully tried to troll the fans of the novels. If you're making a show based on a popular book, why not attempt to follow the plot? I understand, you may have to streamline it for TV -- but they are actively adding silly nonsense, for no apparent reason. I can recommend the Dune movie, however. Denis Villeneuve actually read Dune, and the movie treats the source material with respect.
  20. This is in a Quick Battle, on the Steam version of Black Sea. I did a reinstall after seeing this, but the issue persists. Note: When the Model Quality is set to Fastest, a correct texture is seen. Is this a known bug, and/or is there a way to fix it?
  21. Brilliant song, wish we had more clever lyrics in music. Not sure I mentioned a film, Khabour Trail is the Canadian campaign. There you do play as Patricia's, they were active during the Cold War-era too. I believe the only Chieftains the Iraqis had, were captured from Iran. AFIAK, Iran was the biggest importer of Chieftains -- and still maintains a sizable fleet. Wow! Sick diorama. Should work a bit on the foliage though.
  22. In Khabour Trail, I faced a hybrid force. I was marked for damage to civilian infrastructure. Certain buildings (ie. Mosques) were valued more than others. My primary concern was to accomplish all objectives, while minimizing casualties to core units. So, it was important to not bite more than you can chew. I'd rather not face Fedayeen defenders in urban areas, if I could avoid it. The solution was to use airburst artillery instead of general purpose. Rolling in front of the armoured spearhead, it suppressed defenders on rooftops, balconys and upper stories. I have know idea how many orphans/widows I created/destroyed with airburst artillery in civilian populated zones. Mission reports said it was fine. Small price to pay to avoid a holy war.
  23. Happy to hear that they're focusing on modules for existing titles (give BS and FB some love). Cold War has risen to be my fave, hope to fight Germans in Germany.
  24. You can call artillery, in sequential lines. Very easy to do, if you have multiple spotters and stonks. I used this a lot, to suppress overwatch positions, in-debth.
