  1. I've only tried so far to patch Fortress Italy, with the Gustav bundle, and it's already a nightmare.  After applying the fortress Italy serial I get 'License Failure Game Engine 4 required' even though I was already running engine 4.  It won't even let me apply the Gustav serial, saying 'Invalid Serial Number'.

So thats 1 out of 6 installs already ruined by these patches, I think I'll take a rain check on the rest for now.  I dread to think what a mess CMBN will end up in.

I've raised a ticket, but from the customers perspective I don't understand why I have to navigate through a minefield of different version numbers to arrive at the latest version and engine for each game.

  2. I know it's not considered PC around here to ask about timescales.  But in true 'Emporers new clothes' fashion I'm going to ask.

I think there was a time the Italy expansion and the Red Thunder expansion were expected to be released last year.  Obviously thats not the aspiration any more.

Is it still hoped to release them or has development stopped?

(PS. sorry if I've missed a communication, but I've been visiting the Italy page regularly and not noticed anything)

  3. I'm still not clear what happens for those of us who are buying the Shock Force 2 bundle totally fresh with no upgrade.  Do we get a digital download initially which will be followed by an update for British and NATO?

Also am I right in assuming that if we want a hard copy, it won't ship until all the packs have been completed?

Yes.  As mentioned above, all of the forces (units) in the Modules are all set.  What's not set is some of the Campaigns.  In practical terms what this means is if you purchase British and/or NATO Modules you'll get full access to all the forces and stand alone battles, but the Campaigns will be the same as CMSF1. We're including them more-or-less as placeholders.  Personally, I'd recommend not playing them even though you definitely can if you want to.

Thanks for the update Steve.  So if I buy the big bundle will a new version be released as an update when the NATO and British campaigns are ready?

  5. Hi Devs,

A few months ago I treated myself to a tank Sim called Steel Beasts. It has an excellent feature where you order movement to a point on a road and it will plot the route along the road for you.  Is this a feature that could be implemented in CM?

If so it would make movement of road columns so much less tedius than it currently is.  For me, plotting road movement is the only thing which has slightly marred CM since the beginning, especially on large scenarios, everything else being pretty much perfect for me.

but these predictions that somehow BF will suffer a slow painful death make no sense on the face of fact. BF has always been like this and they are showing no signs that their business is suffering.

BF have a product which nothing else measures up to in my opinion.  Very few people will be foolish enough to pass up on it just because they are miffed about the comms.

  7. I can't think of any other PC wargame out there that has the authenticity of Combat Mission.  I have to confess I still haven't played all the content thats already been provided in these titles, so I'm going to have to concentrate on that while I agonise about the next titles (the Russian Front to 1945 is the one I'm drooling for).

I've seen a lot of debate on game forums and one thing I know for sure is the more the game is loved the more anger is generated about developer communications.....

  8. Hi,

I wanted to try and entice a friend to get into Combat Mission, but am having trouble finding your Red Thunder, Final Blitzkrieg and Black Sea demos on your new site.  I had been planning to link them to him.  Can you steer me to any links for them?

    Cheers

    Jon

  9. I haven't tried calling a ceasefire at the start.  Maybe I'll give that a go.

There is little cover anywhere around the monastery, which is on the top of a shallow hill.  The scenario is at night with low visibility.  As I recall there were at least 5 Panthers against my 12-12 Shermans.  Once our tanks spot each other, as usual the Germans fire earlier and more accurately.  I've tried using infantry to spot for the tanks but thast didn't make any difference, except the infantry got killed as well :)
