To make two things clear: I think the graphic of the CMx2 games is almost "good enough", i just dont like the low draw distance (LOD) and the overall bad performance on my system and Battlefronts attitude towards textures. I played a lot of ArmA and i tried to play with High-Command stuff but its not the same as playing CM, just the fact that controling the movement is a pain in the a** or that ArmA AI has some serious problems with buildings.
  5. You are totally right about that. I wish there was more abstraction in close comabt and infantry combat in general. That would lead to much more realistic outcomes. You have the conga line. You have the "single shooter kills my squad" You have the insanely deadly automatic rifle fire You have a TacAI that hates buildings (for some reason)
  6. Wargames like Combat Mission want to be niche, thats just the truth. The developers fear to attract a bigger audience because this will mean more criticism and more support work. The players fear to become "mainstream", they dont want the Company of Heroes "kiddies" to play "their" game too.

  9. That may be true, but the default damage model is at least semi hitpoint based and very simple. Thats why you can set damage (via script) to only a handful of vehicle parts and you can set the overall damage (0.0 - 1.0). Never saw ERA defeat a RPG HEAT warhead in ArmA, never saw damage to optics or sensors.
  10. I dont know, i played OFP, ArmA2 and ArmA3...have 1400 posts on the BI Forum and made many coop mission for the games (available on armaholic) but maybe i have no idea about ArmA, yeah.
  11. Wait... CM is as simple to play as top-down tactical wargame as ArmA is as first person tactical shooter ! ArmA is far more accessible for most people because its a...shooter..., even kids understand how to play it...run around and press to kill... I know you can mod ArmA into a huge buggy monster. I know you can do anything with the editor and mod tools...if you have the time ! If i would want to play a platoon size fight with me as the commander on my PC (alone...no MP !) i would prefer CM over ArmA3 + mods any day !
  12. So you compare a Coop Multiplayer tactical shooter with a Single Player tactical wargame ?! How should CM do it ? Have a Coop mode where one player plays the FO team while another player plays the artillery ? Apples and oranges i would say... @ Jock Tamson No, the AI still sucks a** in using buildings...
  13. Thewood1, the ArmA you describe is a ArmA modded with 5+ mods and played exclusively in MP ! Also, ArmA is still a FPS, you can play it like CM (commanding squads and vehicles while viewing the battlefield from above) but that makes not much fun, try telling a (AI) MG team to setup their MG in the second floor of a building...try it and cry...try telling a (AI) tank to drive backwards 50m and pop smoke...please try it.
  14. Yes, ArmA3 MP is pretty buggy, to get the things BlackAlpha talks about you need to install 10 or more mods, fiddle around with them ect. There are Radio simulation mods for ArmA, but radios and communication is simulated in CM too. The mods you talk about are for MP, so different players can talk with each other with real restrictions, fiddle with the frequency and stuff...but thats not the scope of CM ! Artillery "magically falls out of the sky" ?! Do you know that the spotting, calling, correction is done by the AI in CM ? In ArmA you can play as Mortar guy or spotter yeah but all you describe only works in MP were you dont have to deal with the horrible AI and is out of scope in CM anyway...why would the CM player himselfe adjust artillery fire by using the voice chat (radio) ??
  15. Maybe but they just work around the hitpoints, vehicle combat always feels dull in Arma.
  16. I would doubt that, the damage model in ArmA is hitpoint based. ArmA3 is a infantry simulator but vehicle combat is bad.

  19. I dont like all the "uhh poor Battlefront" talk here. They sell games to people, those games are not cheap, especially when you consider that they use the same engine since 8 years now. That they dont care about simple things that modders like Kieme do in a few days could be considered disrespectful to their loyal customers.
