Yep. I had to take a break from the monotony of making German shields for RT. Been messing with these for about a month
and after much angst decided they were good enough. Coming to a Repos near you...

Finally working on this mod. Was delayed due to holding up the CMBS release date doing textures.

It has turned out to be a full rebuild of the CMSF version, due to different sized tiles, and also due to my finding that I couldn't understand my own mod without the reference sheet. *FAIL*
I have all the vehicle tiles done in bglow and plain-bglow, so I'll put them up for review - hopefully to find any necessary corrections before I generate all the other versions. (In the mean time I'm working on the gun silhouettes.)

All values are estimates. My estimates may vary from yours ( or BFC's ).

Armour estimates used where data is unavailable:
    Turret side = Turret front / 2.5
    Hull side = Glacis / 3
    Lower Hull front = Glacis / 2
    1st gen ERA = +250mm CE  +100mm KE
    2nd gen ERA = +400mm CE  +200mm KE
    3rd gen ERA = +600mm CE  +300mm KE
    Bar armour = +150mm CE

    Thanks,
I'm glad you enjoy the 3 tone camo (as I do). I decided to make the plain green version for all those you don't like the camo, it's little effort to do so it's not a big deal (such as a completely different camo would be).
The 3-tone versions are downloaded a bit more, but I guess many just downloaded both to see them in game prior to choosing.

I'm taking a look at the BMP-3 now. There are 4 modern versions, 2 different versions, 1 AT, 1 recon.

    BRM-3
    BMP-3
    BMP-3k
    BMP-3M
    BMP-3M (shtora)
    BMP-3M (arena)
    BMP-3M( ERA)

So, I thought about this: a 3-tone version for the BMP-3M and its 3 variants (yet to see what to do with the big ERA bocks) and for the recon variant. But only the plain green version for the BMP-3, BMP-3k and Krizantema.

Blyskawica reacted to Jargotn in Please NO Marines or NATO forces module !
So... new western equipment is a unnecessary addition but reusing the Ukrainian army fresh and new?

Both a marines module and a separatist are kind of confirmed (The separatists by Steve somewhere in the "has debalt(something) fallen?" thread and the marines both by the story and ChrisND somewhere else. I personally don't think that the jump to NATO is small enough to justify not doing it. Yes, much of the equipment is somewhat similar, but so is everything in modern warfare. Heck, all warfare is "shooting stuff with my stuff".

I don't think that we'll see winter anytime soon. It is a lot of work. Earlier, before the release, Steve was asked if they would include winter for community scenarios. He answered that for everyone asking for winter there would be someone who asked them to add a winter variant to all models, etc. Redoing everything, from infantry models to vehicle textures, is a LOT of work.
What I'd personally like to see is a mix. Some traditional NATO countries (Germany, GB, France) combined with other NATO countries (Poland is a must!) with new forces (Marines and Russian stuff. I don't know details about those, so please forgive me).
Ideally I'd like to see one BLUFOR addition and one OPFOR addition in every module.

But hey, I don't have to do the work behind all this!

so here is the deal - and I am not quoting to not single anyone out, this is just a general perspective

    1. BF has told pre orders that they are getting early access and they should not announce it as it simply causes a flood on the servers (this goes back a long way before their current service)

    2. The forum goes nuts with F5 monkeys refreshing as if having the game today versus tomorrow is somehow going to fundamentally change our lives

    3. BF has a cloud service that takes time for the installer to be distributed to the cloud servic e to make the cloud actually function as intended.

    4. The pre orders that get the email immediately announce they are downloading

5 the non pre orders start complaining about how their lives are being ruined and they should have the game now!!!

    6. Chris announces fine, they are opening it up

    7.  Everyone starts downloading and as was probably predictable it causes issues.

8 It is BFs fault for announcing late

    9. It is BF's fault for announcing early

C'mon guys, lighten up and chill a little bit.  The game is released, you'll be playing it soon enough and yeah you are damn funny to listen to.

Downloading today is rather like Starwars fans sitting out in the rain waiting for the big movie premiere. If they had just waited til the next day to see the movie they could have walked into the theater without a line.

BFC should really change to that scrum model... just for the fun of seeing the forum explode in vitriolic hate as every one explains why HIS feature is the most important and should be implemented next!

Customers don't know what they want (me included). Its BFCs job to find out what enough people want to pay for their time.
Supposedly it was Henry Ford who said: 'If I had asked my customers what they wanted they would have said a faster horse.'

Considering the amount of excellent game material this small team has put out in the (just) seven years since CMSF appeared, I have absolutely no problem with their production model.

Honestly I think that model would work terribly for this product.  BF would go under trying to implement stuff that is just not feasible resource wise.  Why can't we just be happy that we have something, stop freaking out if it takes a few weeks longer to develop and stop trying to change a working business model.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm older and supposedly wiser now vs. the pre-CMBO days (yes, I have been here this long), but I am still fighting the urge to complain only semi-successfully in terms of how this product development cycle drags on and expectations continue to be somewhat not managed well.

I'm sure a lot of folks here on these boards work in software engineering or project management -- what is frustrating to some of us is that while some of the most exciting players in the game industry have switched to a scrum system (e.g. Early Access games on Steam) where they develop features as users request them, Battlefront still seems stuck in an older development model, waterfall.  This is ironic considering how Battlefront was among the leaders in revolutionizing the marketplace with CMBO disintermediating the brick and mortar stores that kept the games we wanted from us.

Scrum is pretty great in a lot of applications, and I like it in game development, because it lets folks get buy-in early and vote, as the customers actually excited about and buying the game, in terms of features they want, how things are working, etc.

Battlefront still seems to be stuck in the waterfall model, where they build the game they think we want, spend a lot of time doing it, and then launch it and patch as needed.  Admittedly in most cases this seems to have worked well (the CMSF issues being one where it didn't go as well initially), but I can't help but feel like at this point, given how niche this gaming product is and how enthused we all are about testing/playing it, that maybe it is time to switch to scrum development (early access) and let us help them build the best game.  There's a certain amount of hubris in thinking your team alone knows what is good for us, as paying customers.  Yes, it is they who are building it, and true enough, no serious competition has emerged, but it won't always be like this.  My bet is that if a company finally does beat Battlefront in terms of servicing this particular, specific niche, it is going to be a company that gives what they won't -- early access and buy-in.

A lot of the same basic tactics that apply to CM WW2 apply to CM Modern.

You just have to remember that any unit that can be seen can be killed very quickly, including the M1 Abrams.

So typically, you will spend a lot of time scouting with your infantry, UAVs just to try to figure out where the enemy forces are located. AFVs should be kept out of LOS until you have a definitive target located and a plan on how to take it out.

I had joked awhile ago that BFC can't guarantee a release date because there's always things like accidents and blizzards to contend with. And look what happened, the worst of the current blizzard hit directly on top of Charles! Talk about blizzards, I'm off shoveling.
