CMRT WInter Mod thinktank
Harry Speakup replied to kohlenklau's topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
You'd be better off playing with GIMP. It's got a ton of features and is like a freeware version photoshop. You'd need to play about with layers and opacity of the same. From my limited dabbling with GIMP and CM it does some funny things with exporting bmps that CM engine doesn't like, which sometimes results in either odd distorted colours or shifted graphics. Photoshop is really required I think -

New diversity expansion due, Combat Mission: Hot Coffee. Rumours the code was there all along swiftly denied by Steve. Chris to hold R-Rated Twitch stream demo. It'll be even more laggier than usual, so get in early.

Bulge Buildings?

That's OK, Wacht am Rhein -
I've a free Steam key for Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star & the Volokonovka 1942 DLC. I bought the game & DLC bundle from Bundlestars and these were unused. It's not CMRT, but someone here is more likely to be interested in trying the game out. Mods: Delete if inappropriate

Water only has one elevation, the lowest. To create an irrigation channel at a higher elevation the nearest you could use is a marsh tile. There is a mod that replaces the deep marsh tile with a lily pond graphic. Other than that you're stuck with a known limitation of the way the CM engine games deal with water

Jihadists. The mentality probably hasn't changed since Kitchener was mowing down Mahdists, Ottoman Delis were rampaging through the Balkans some centuries before, or even the time of Mohamed a millennium before that. Weapons technology evolves at a fairly rapid pace compared to the human element. The weapons change, the mentality and theology haven't.

Building Black Sea Maps Questions
Harry Speakup replied to Zemke's topic in CM Black Sea Maps and Mods
If you have Steam installed use Steam to launch the game (Bottom Left corner of Steam window - "+" Add a Game - Add a non-Steam Game) and the F12 key to capture screenshots. -
Graphics quality: best vs. fastest
Harry Speakup replied to Hafer's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
It's in advanced graphics options, listed as tree detail IIRC. -
If any significant explosion went off in a Ukrainian city and there was either evidence, or Kiev claims of evidence of radioactive pollution in the blast area, DNR would find themselves on the "Axis of Evil" list. No doubt there would be a flurry of activity in the UN, with motions for intervention, probably by NATO forces, to remove the new international menace. Alternative CMBS backstory The Newsweek story is pure fantasy.

Ok, damn the torpedo's full speed ahead.

You could try winrar. Current versions handle 7z files as well as rars and many other formats too. You will get nagged if the evaluation runs out. -
Given the Battlefront crystal ball, if they announce a USMC vs Chinese in Taiwan, I'll expect the flashpoint IRL a few months later

Any way to turn off backgound battle sound?
Harry Speakup replied to Alexey K's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
The Data\Z folder still works fine for mods. I've been playing about with ambient wavs in and out of it for days. -
I'm working on an night time ambient sound mod at the moment. It's easy to suppress the crickets with a good helping of EQ since the sound peaks around 5KHz. You are likely to get a vixen screaming in the background or an Eagle Owl or two though, (Tawny is also native to Ukraine, so possible) just to give it some life. The problem is balancing the nature sounds to not make it too frequent and noticeable & therefore annoying since it's a short continuous loop. All these mating and territorial calls are great for Spring to Late Autumn night ambience, but not relevant for Winter when not much of any volume is to be heard. This should also go for daytime ambience too. Birdsong dwindles and changes hugely in Winter since a large number of European species migrate to Africa.

The Super Bowl & Black Sea Release
Harry Speakup replied to slysniper's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
No, but they actually do have a sun over there. It's that funny yellow thing that you might see in the sky now and then, if it's not grey or raining that day in Bonny Scotchland -
I downloaded the other mods OK, but it now won't let me get the overcast mod, which is only 211KB. The download button does not respond as before. Exceeded bandwidth maybe?

Better to release it when it's truly ready, than rush it and have some glaring bug cause frantic patching before you've even managed to digest the Christmas dinner

[Released] Veins Soviet Infantry V1
Harry Speakup replied to Vein's topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
I've got both Veins Russians and German Infantry mods. I'll try and upload the Russians to somewhere useful, tho at my 2 yoghurt pots and a piece of string upload speed, someone may provide a link sooner -
Yep, the postage ends up costing an extra 50%. I could buy another CMBN vehicle pack and enough packs of tissue to wipe up all those whingers tears I'll just wait until the hour of release for the download version

The Vehicle Pack is out!
Harry Speakup replied to Mord's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
An Activation Readme would have been nice to include with the zip to read before installation instead of digging about in the game folder. To summarise: The pack needs a working 3.00 install to start with 1. Install Vehicle Pack via Setup.exe (includes v3.10 update) 2. Launch CMBN 3. Press Activate & use 3.00 key (DOES NOT USE UP ACTIVATIONS per BF) 4. Quit 5. Use Activate Modules Shortcut in CMBN Start Menu folder 6. Use Big Bundle Key to activate CW & MG modules (in my case) 7. Repeat 5 8. Use Vehicle Pack Key to activate Vehicle Pack Run game The question I have is if in the future I install this on a new machine from fresh, can I install everything first then do the above activations (3.0, modules, Vehicle Pack) all in one go? No quibbles from me on the pricing. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I view the module purchases as like buying a box of soldiers, except I don't have to paint em or glue the tank kits together, and 1 costs the same as 100. The joys of computer gaming. -
I started with Paradox version and upgraded to 1.21, it works. It just gets you on the BF activation system eligible to upgrade and buy any expansion packs without a problem. If your hardware will run 1.20, there should be no reason it won't run 1.21. Activation is easy enough
