You will often see CM videos on youtube where the player ceases fire before the end. And of course there is nothing to stop you doing so. But the aim of this particular thread is to give @WimO as much feedback as possible as to how this campaign plays out. So even if you are having a hard time in a future mission I would try and stick it out to the end.

Your guess is correct I steered well clear of Assembly 2. The two man scout team who I mentioned were lucky to get off as lightly as they did considering they cam under fire from four different Gerry units. After that I just headed off to Millets victory location. Counterattacks? Yes, I did. Hardly any Germans survived

Pedantry Alert Mission 1 completed. Major Victory No casualties (apart from a light one sustained by the two man scout team sent to check out Assembly 1). In the meantime the capture of Eglise Saint-Ferreol de Cauquigny went perfectly.

Don't worry too much about what I say. When you get to 365 years of age you tend to get a bit cantankerous.

As a "newbie" you can be forgiven. But it is best to begin such a detailed overview with the phrase "SPOILER ALERT" at the top of the post, so that people who are yet to play or finish the mission don't have their fun ruined. If you wanted to just share your thoughts with @WimO you can always go to his profile and send him a private note.

I don't mind the typos. It's only when some Scots gits changed their name from Steward to Stuart that I got a bit tetchy.

You're more than welcome, Mate. Over the years, we've had maps that use nothing but US English, maps that use nothing but French, and some that use a mixture of the two. I'm sure if we wait long enough someone will come along and demand that you change it to "Chapelle". Okay, enough of this bolleaux, I'm cracking on with Mission 1.

I had to have a little chuckle over this one. In Kent we have a village called Capel-le-Ferne i.e. a chapel built on a site where ferns once grew. Over the years it has been, Marie in the Verne (Church of St. Mary being the name of the chapel), Capel ate Verne, Capell, and Capell' in le Ferne. So I suppose we can cut @WimO a bit of slack, if he makes the odd typo or two.

I'm going to get stuck into this campaign today. Cue ...

Thanks for all the work that you have put into this project. I have a battle with Big C to contend with at the moment, but hopefully it's been caught early doors. And I look forward to giving this campaign a go sooner rather than later.

Here's another picture of "The Man with the Big Cigar" in Mote Park, I think that the officer with the swagger stick is saying "There's nothing to worry about Prime Minister, I'm sure it can take the weight of your drinks cabinet".

That is an incident that I have never read about before, nor seen in any documentary about the Normandy campaign. But, I think that your interpretation could be a possibility.

Yeah, I just wish I could have confirmed it for myself. As for Mote Park itself, it did have a bit of earl-war history as well. My home town sits on the main arterial road from the Channel coast to London, the park's thick stone walls were incorporated into the town's outer defenses. Gun slits were punched through the stone blocks for MGs and anti-tank rifles, and there was a Fougasse flame projector hidden near one gate.

I haven't been able to find anymore info I'm afraid. Although it's unlikely that my old dad would have made it up, I was able recently verify a story he'd told me about one of his workmates getting killed in the 1950s via a local newspaper website. In the meantime I have found a couple of Mote Park training related photos. The officers with "The Man With The Big Cigar" are from 53rd (Welsh) Division, and that photo was taken in November 1942. The second picture also taken on the edge of the lake would appear to be a display for the public, sadly, I can't find a date for that one.

The live ammo exercise incident happened during the war. The park was used by many different regiments throughout the course of the war, Limey, Canuck, and USatian. After the war the Nissen Huts were used to house people waiting for a new home.
