  1. OK, thanks. BTW, I'm usually confused by the terms/talk/acronyms y'all use, but am I correct to think that all the Combat Missions are all running under the same hood -- Can I buy the CM2 basegame and play CM1 missions/modules? Or do I have to buy the CM1 base game for those as well? Too bad about the PTO -- with the exception maybe of deep jungle, there's not much difference between PTO scenery and ETO scenery, between a French or Italian beach and a South Pacific beach, or villages with huts instead of stucco, or the mountainous / snowy terrain in China or Europe. Seems like pushing a few squads down the Kokoda, or establishing a beachhead, would be just up CM's alley. Although the Space Lobsters idea is pretty cool, I'd vote for PTO first!
  2. I'm sort of torn between these two games and wish I could get both of them but I can't. ToW's reported "IL-2 Sturmovik" lineage is attractive, and I like the graphics. I'd choose shiny graphics and a relatively-challenging game over deep gameplay. So I was wondering about pros and cons anyone would care to list. Two big deciding facts for me are: 1). Which series is pausable. 2). Which series is most likely to expand into the PTO. I'm a big PTO fan and would much rather do Kokoda Trail than Overlord. Thanks in advance for any input!
  3. Thanks, I've figured out the menu buttons, although you have to click a lot on different units, the one with the symbols shows up eventually!
  4. Thanks, guys. Bill, I have two menus -- one has buttons but only 2 icons a little guy pointing and a box with a report in it. The menu on the screen you linked to sometimes appears, but then switches to the 'blank' menu and there's no way to get it back. Thanks again. BTW, is it possible to have the AI play itself? That's one way to explore game tips and options, I've found.
  5. I'd like clarification on a couple of things that I'm experiencing. (I have read the manual, but of course that doesn't mean I have the IQ to glean the answers ). First, there's no way I can find to toggle the side menu to the one with the end turn and quit menus. How do I do that? I'm having to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of the game, which is not good. Second, the AI is able to do things with units I can't match -- they zip all over the battlefield, while mine plod along attacking with one unit at a time. The manual introduced me to the switch unit function (shift mouse), but the AI is moving units in and out like a dance and I'm not clear how it's doing that. Is there a "tips and tricks" section or corner of the web where things like this are explained? IOW, is there a "tactics" guide to go along with a strategy guide? Third, is there a more persistent undo function? Sometimes I move my units and then just happen to click on another unit, but it's too late to undo the move. Ditto with "switching" the wrong units in line. Fourth, is it really the case that the Turkish defenders in Gallipoli get no reinforcement and no new units? I thought the Somme was tough, but trying to defend that peninsula with wnat's on the board at the beginning is, uh, difficult. Fifth, do I have to download and install all the patches in order, or does the most recent patch include all prior updates? Thanks in advance for any replies!
  6. Downloaded this game + breakthrough last night. Wow . . . just wow. This is fantastic, what a great program! I'm doing Verdu and Meuse-Argonne as learning experiences and can't wait to be comfortable playing the whole war. Thanks for making and selling this product. Curious, if there are more campaigns coming? I see the 1870 AAR and was wondering about its status. It's still in testing, but it's going to be released, right? FWIW here are some ideas (that everyone's probably thought of already) for more: Seige of the Legations in Peking, 1900 Boer War (seems like a logical extension of Lettow-Vorbeck's campaign) Zulus! Russo-Japanese War (Seige of Port Arthur, Sandepu, Mukden) Crimean War (Inkerman, Alma, Sevastopol) That would be fantastic! Of course, doing an 1870 mod raises some tantalizing possibilities about campaigns in an earlier mid-19th century war in North America. Please tell me you're all way ahead of me on this! Thanks again for the great game.
  7. Bill, Thanks for clearing that up. I played a demo last night and I can tell this is a subtle and complex game. I keep putting various combinations in my cart then changing my mind! (Don't worry, I'll buy some today or tomorrow) That's a great thread you have. FWIW, have you seen this app? http://pp2pdf.tipido.net/index.php/en/help.html It's for Firefox and converts Internet pages to PDFs without a hitch. Not connected to the app in any way whatsoever, but for example that thread is now a PDF in my Strategic Command Folder. If you have time, I'm wondering why no hexes and why planes don't fly around. It's not a criticism, I'm just not used to the Morshcauser (sp?) system of squares and like shiny. Anyhow, thanks again for all your help!
  8. Bill, Thanks. One last question, does SCGlobal have smaller campaigns that can be fought instead of whole theaters/fronts, etc.? Say, the Japanese assault on Singapore, or one beach on D-Day? I'd prefer not to start my learning curve with Barbarossa.
  9. Hello all, Glad I stumbled on Battlefront. The game looks stunning -- I've been wanting an isometric view with soldiers and equipment that's advanced play (I've been playing TripleA so long it's like tic tac toe, and Matrix has finally done WiF but dropped the AI component). But I've got some questions if you guys don't mind: 1. If I understand this right, Global is all of WWII with various alternative options (which is fantastic in and of itself). Pacific is just the PTO, while Blitzkreig and its extensions are ETO. The three games aren't perfectly interchangeable (i.e., Global is *not* just a tie in of Pacific and Blitzkrieg, but it's own unique game). Do I have that right? 2. There are no printed manuals for any game. If that's right, is there anyway I can download a pdf or something and print it out? It's a quirk of mine, but I really like a printed manual laying on my desk when I play (something I really liked about Tiller's West Front, East Front, and Rising Sun). 3. As my computer ages, I'm starting to have issues with video and complex graphics. If I download the demo and it runs OK, is that a pretty good indication that my computer can handle the whole game? Thanks in advance for your help!
