  1. .......so....college semester finally finished. Been working on an Omaha Beach map. The western sector. Curious what some people's thoughts and opinions are on invasion maps and what can potentially make them fun and tactical- contradictory to the idea of flood rush the dead space. I'll throw up some screens in the next couple days. I found a neat way to have an invasion fleet horizon texture and an even more cool, plus convincing way to have landing craft. You all will love it. Might have to go texture hunting though as the Higgins steel plates are from Men of War. Any help with reference photos and force compositions will be greatly appreciated. Dog Red - Charlie (maybe Fox Green?). I've already mined Steven Zaloga and critical hits board game. I'll provide more details when I can such as goals and ideas for balance. Levi
  2. I should of mentioned men of war is another game in the same genre as combat mission but not as complex/realistic so unfortunately I can't share the models. I put in for permission to port their terrain textures which have a lot of winter terrain tiles. I don't know about skill level for modding though lol I might try to do one of those rare t34 guards armor skins though. I am curious what techniques others have been using to mod vehicles especially over the German camo patterns. The last time I tried it didn't go so well.
  3. Hey Kohlenklau I really like how your trying to get others into modding as well. I might try to chime in on a project I've had going on and off involving using Men of War textures in Combat Mission. The textures are low quality but the color palette looks really nice with vanilla models; Normandy looks like Normandy and same for the Eastern Front being distinct. I guess it'll depend on if I get the right permissions. I am wondering though if you know of armor using a specific tracer to maybe mod the tracer from their main gun.
  4. I was pretty heavy into the BA1 and BA2 games for a while since they play on my laptop but personally feel like combat mission will always win in terms of realism. BA2 is fun in its own right much like the old school talonsoft games but casualties are only counted as whole units like squad or vehicle. The TOE is also extremely abstract in the way every rifle squad is the same strength in terms of firepower and manpower. BA2 is still a nice game for a light tactical that requires less hardware to play.
  5. Kieme- yea now that I thought about it I'm not sure what would make tie downs look decent/authentic either. The duck tape is a good compromise. My last post probably came off as kind of dickish so my apologies for not adding constructive feedback. Your vehicles are awesome and can't wait to see the rest, especially alternative camo schemes for the Russians if you end up doing that.
  6. Kieme, your VS-17 panels looks pretty sweet for adding more character to these vehicles but not so sure about the "taped on thing". Everything in the Army pretty much gets tied down with 550 cord. Always exceptions of course but yea.
  7. Rocketman, I have the jpeg extracted but you may have to pm me an email address because I can't figure out how to attach files in the battlefront messenger system. Unfortunately close combat maps are fairly small so the area is just the battery. Depending on the accuracy of the map you can usually paste it right into a google earth screenshot. The program I used to extract the jpeg is called 5CC v1.22 (http://cc2revival.npage.de/cc2revival.html). Maps of the Gold, Juno, Sword area can be downloaded from http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Downloads&cid=150. To extract a maps jpeg with 5CC after loading the map: go to file>export>export BGM/background>export background picture. You can also view terrain elevations by bringing up visibility>show tools and selecting the icon for elevation editing. Although because of the way that game codes elevation numbers you have to cut the shown numbers in half to get the real elevation in meters. So if it shows 8 as an elevation it stands for 4 meters. The program does not show trees (only tree shadows) and no terrain descriptions. All of that is shown in the actual game of close combat. Hope that may help you a bit.
  8. http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/images/cc5maps/mervl.jpgThats the mods map they use for Merville. If you are interested I could extract the jpeg from the actual map file of the game or write out instructions on how to do so. This is how I plan to get into making a few maps anyway. Essentially you can do an easy pixel to meter conversion and use the close combat maps as overlays.
  9. Not sure how accurate it is but another possible source for mapping could be from a close combat 5 mod called gold, sword, juno.
  10. ATG bunkers and captured french vehicles! It's everything I dreamed it would be. Can't wait to make some historical Omaha beach maps. Take my money.
  11. I agree with Freyberg that AT bunkers should be included in a package along with funnies for Normandy/market garden regardless of d-day re-enactment. Landing craft could be an object placement instead of an actual vehicle. I'm not looking for a "they probably won't" or "doubtful", I'm just stating that my vote is a yes for fortification variety.
  12. I'm really excited to hear that another add on pack will be available for Normandy. I'm personally wishing for AT bunkers so missions can be made for the beaches. I'm not sure what historically accurate user made maps exist for this game right now except that everything else on the market is just a copy of Saving Private Ryan. It would be a nice refresher to play so far one of the most realistic strategy games with accurate invasion maps. Does anyone else feel the same way despite the hype for the Russian front? With the 3.0 version coming and bigger maps there is really going to be a need for trigger activated movement for single player or else it'll just be scattered static defenses with a hit or miss on ai attacks. Multiplayer either way will be awesome for those maps. The ability for the ai to move in hunt mode would also be very beneficial with that much unknown territory or even with smaller maps to prevent ridiculous suicide charges at times.
