    Thanks!
I do - I attached the save to the post. It's not a normal scenario, it's a test setup for me to see how different guns compare (two-player WeGo hotseat, empty passwords). You can find the officer with the pistol and the Schiessbecher guy by the landmark tags. Watch how long they spend spotting with their guns empty before they remember they should reload.
The officer doesn't always wave the rifle around so maybe this was just an one-off thing I saw.
Yes, and those were supply platoon trucks, which - I assume - can serve everyone for automatic ammo sharing (?) No idea why some failed to take any ammo by themselves. I've seen two infantry HQ units (a platoon HQ and a MG section HQ from different battalions) behave differently in this respect. It's not a real problem at all but it could point to some inconsistency in the code with other implications for the ammo sharing process.

Cool, welcome to the forum! I have a couple of thoughts...

Sounds not quite right. I am not a weapon's expert so it is possible but it sounds like a mistake. Do you have a saved game hanging around? I can probably reproduce it but frankly I have a back log of stuff so I have no idea when or if I would ever get there.

This is the automatic ammo sharing kicking in. Troops with empty mags will take a mag at a time from either other units in their platoon (including vehicles) or from ammo dumps. They only share as needed - in other words one mag at a time. That is fine when you have guys in a fixed position but it can be a problem when things are dynamic. I don't know why they would sometimes not pick up ammo but I do know that if there is even one round in the mag they have they will not get another one. Perhaps not perfect but the feeling is things like that are not going to change.
Just to be sure: you can acquire ammo in significant amounts using the acquire command once they are in the vehicle. I'm just making sure...

I like the hide idea but @MOS:96B2P has an even better one.
Yeah, it has been asked for before. I can only imagine it is pretty low on the priority list though.

    Combatintman,
Played this out to the very bitterly cold end.  On Elite vs. AI, I managed a major victory playing as Axis.  Yes, yes, playing versus AI, but I thought the AI did a very good job and was pretty convincing in the execution of the battle plan.  The battle for the town was vicious - I had to be very careful to conserve my troops.  The battle in the woods on my right flank was equally brutal.  I got pretty beat up in that area.
I was stunned by the beauty of the map.  I went to Google Earth to check the area out and you were pretty much spot on with your map.
I did up a little story to go with my struggle and I posted it in the screenshots section.  I wasn't sure how many might see this thread as it was already on page two.
Thanks again.  It played out very well, had a very historical feel to it, the map was great, and it was a challenge.  Great work!

By this point in the war many German units were utterly p**s-poor, the very last scrapings of the barrel, stiffened by a diminishing number of veterans (or better).....IMHO you could use almost any combination of training & experience levels &, often within the same (reduced) platoon.
The Brits were in a reasonably similar position as we were simply running out of men, but we were slightly better off in that we still had decent supply and training facilities well behind the lines (ie: in the UK), so I'd be somewhat less likely to rate them conscript or use -2 experience and the overall unit settings would be a bit more uniform by & large.
The US had no shortage of manpower but their units were beginning to suffer the effects of combat fatigue.....Troops who had been in the field for long enough to consider veterans could see that the end was in sight and became very reluctant to stick their neck out (naturally this effected British & Commonwealth forces too), so I'd set many Veteran units to Low or even Poor morale.  The remainder would mostly be regulars but still with a decent number of enthusiastic new recruits (I usually chuck in a few green troops with high morale to compensate for the veterans).
    FWIW

This is a great point, well made.
The fact that Battlefront can remain financially viable to what is, let’s face it, a fairly small niche group of players is in itself astonishing. My 11 year old son and I play CM2 together. Whilst I'm slowly teaching him the application of real world tactics and we have some good small-scale games, he still marginally prefers the 'instant gratification' and fast-paced action of the Call Of Duty series on his X-Box.
I’ve been able to get him into playing CM2 through 11 years of sharing my passion for WW2 history (OK– indoctrinating a future opponent!) via museum visits, films like Battle Of Britain and series like Band Of Brothers. I reckon if I take it slowly, in another couple of years, he’ll be a very good player – but I wouldn’t have a hope of teaching some of his mates the nuances of CM2, because they don’t have the background interest.
I don’t consider myself a Battlefront 'fanboy', but I do appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into producing an extraordinary series of games. I sincerely hope BF continue to develop them for as long as I’m around to play them.

That is completely understandable.  All us fans here do is throw out comments and suggestions with the full knowledge that most may not be implementable for the reasons stated.
However, the hope is that with CM3...

LOL actually I usually ignore disgruntled people and try to keep my head down and continue my work to improve the world in my own small way. Disgruntled people are a drag on progress and those of us doing the work are making things better in spite of them not because of them.

The tree was simply a happy coincidence, oh I mean I totally planned that out! Yes, absolutely!
He's not knocked out yet, not with a single Partial Penetration. I'm just hoping I can land a couple more shots before he inevitably reverses out of view range. If the Panther had hit him instead of the StuG, he might have been knocked out with a single shot...

Seriously, the intent of my Blog is to address the application of real world tactics in the CM games... it is my firm belief that if you learn the real world tactics, and know how to apply them in CM you will be successful more times than not.

Maybe we are speaking past each other? I understood @markshot's post as asking for the effects of the actual terrain tiles by themselves, not as asking for a table letting you predict the the total combined effects of individual troop placement, cover, bushes, shrubs, etc. We fully agree that would be tough to do

To put it mildly they often are, yes.
At least you have crisp looking images, and didn't bring out the GIMP. Still, I'm growing fond of my own half-assed top-down styles.

I haven't been able to grab screenshots yet, but I decided it was time to do a head count based on the latest set of turns (it turns out this town is simply crawling with Germans). Here are some musings as I inch past the halfway mark of the battle:
My enemy has an entire battalion on the field, I'm convinced. The platoons destroyed earlier at either crossing were from the same company. If I had to estimate his losses, they are nearing 50 percent; as I've destroyed a mortar battery, the better part of an Anti-tank battery (1 PAK still unaccounted for) and the better part of two rifle companies. He has a company in the town, or what is left of it. Two tired platoons of infantry, even with tank support, aren't going to dig them out and both platoons are nearing combat ineffectiveness. Its time to make a killbox in the center of town with artillery and bypass for more seizeable objectives. Although I'm pulling out of town, the buildings I've secured have all had upwards of a fireteam killed completely within them. I reckon he has two platoons left at fighting strength. He most likely has spread between the two farming communities a company. At the bypassed ford, he has a platoon - which means if I can turn around and seize it with ease if necessary. I'm nearing 30 percent casualties myself, damn it all. I'm going to have to push him for a surrender if I want a total victory now. I'm hoping the artillery box will break his spirit of resistance.
Of the original 25 AFVs (not including M20s), I am down to 19. I'm actually not to upset over this, as I've accounted for 5 PAK guns and God knows how many enemy infantry. As per the historical loadout as well, this was a 2-1 split for the Battalion. My logic is like this, tanks formed the majority of the force, were expected to do the majority of fighting, and therefore take the brunt of the losses. Off the top of my head: 133 men of the original 194 infantry are still in action. This means that I'm nearing the 30 percent casualty threshold for my entire force. I have him essentially cut apart and trapped in 3 pockets, and my blind rushing has made me rebound with totally avoidable losses. I've advanced almost 2km into his rear, and he has nowhere to go. Now's the time to slow down. HE. Everything. I've been sparing with my use, and most of the remaining armor has on average 44 HE rounds left - I intend to not repeat my mistakes in the city, and level every building in the two hamlets before I move in the supporting platoon of infantry. The less actual fighting against a cohesive force my infantry have to do at this point, the better. I clearly need to work on how to attack urban areas, I'm out of practice. I'm satisfied with how I've handled a defense in depth over the open ground, however.
