That's why most developers when adding replays do instruction sets for the AI. Rather than recording what happened on the screen and/or what ever battlefront does to save their replays.

30 gig file for a 2 hour game? I don't think that's how replays work in video games, but ok. It would be 30gigs if it physically recorded the game in mp3. But for a video game with a internal replay system what most game developers do is each replay is a set of instructions for the AI. Just a small couple kb (few mb at most) file with a bunch of instructions to make sure the AI play out the game exactly as it was originally played out. But I guess that's impossible and womble feels the need to be condescending to prove that.

Your 'Ukrainian Blue Infantry' icon is under fow icons and it has the fow colors (dark olive) compared to blue. Even though there is already a 'Ukrainian Fow Infantry' Icon.

No, i did not loose the game. IIRC i lost a truck and maybe 3 to 4 WIA/KIA in the incident with the reinforcements. BTW at which military academy did you graduate, do you have any experience in tactics apart from gaming that make you argueably superior in knowledge? It looks to me as if you were desperately bending reality to fit your almost religious defense of a sub-optimal game mechanism.

Wolfseven, if you are talking about the FOW icons, they do work but are not represented in the picture.

I think you misunderstood. I don't think people are saying that reinforcements are unrealistic or unfair. What people are saying is that having the enemies teleport on top of the player is unrealistic and unfair.

This is why you need something called a RESERVE.  If something unexpected happens you need fresh troops to deal with the unexpected. If you did not keep a reserve you are in trouble and you may have to redeploy units in contact already.

Spitzenhund, you might consider it "unfair" but in reality war. like life, is not fair. If you encounter a sitution you did not expect then,, unfortunately, war is hell. You are going to have to use your tactical skills to deal with the challenge as best you can. As this is only a simulation game, not the real thing, you get to live to fight anotherday and you hopefully learned from your mistake and will apply the lesson to future battles.

I was just about to wrap up the 2nd Ukrainian Campaign Mission, and then out of no where 8 BMP's and 2 tanks come from behind/side and kill 6 vehicles and 6 MBT's. Why is this allowed to happen? It makes me feel like the mission was built to be completed only one way, to direct the attack fully to the front because as what I just did (Won the open ground and the tree line and began flanking and surrounding the enemy built up in the town) get's punished due to vehicles spawning out of no where 30 minutes into the game which is super late for reinforcements seeing as they only had 2 platoons at most left on the map before the reinforcements. 90% of those burning wrecks at the top of the map are my vehicles... What the hell.

    Vin's Animated Text- CMBS v1

First, special thanks to Marco for updating the mod concept's graphics to better reflect modern warfare. The preview pic shows the light version which keeps the word "spotting" as a filter that can be ignored allowing the more important icons to stand out. The heavy version replaces the word "spotting" with the symbol of an eye. Both versions replace the word "casualty" with a "red cross" in the weapons panel.
    Enjoy!

    *BONUS*
Right Facing Weapons Silhouettes like in preview pic.
Flips the weapons as shown in the pic to better accommodate the text so it does not cover the weapon graphic.
Now included in "Easy Vis UI" mod on next page.

EDIT: I deleted the files in this post as they are now outdated. Look further in the thread to find version 1.03 compatible download

    Vin Geometric CMBS Unit Icons:

Changes unit icons to unique geometric shapes for unit categories to better differentiate between types, and to make icons smaller.
Uses different color icons for spotted and FOW to make spotted icons pop out.
Uses different colors for fortifications to make them easier to tell from spotted icons during set up phase.

The FOW, and fortifications icons can be used with the stock icons, or other icon mods if desired by adding a few "Z"s to the folder name.

Thanks for catching that! I fixed and re-uploaded replacing the file in post #3. Everyone who downloaded before 2/7/15 17:26hrs eastern time please re-download the above file, and replace as it fixes the Ukraine Infantry Icon error.

I have been playing mainly USA recently, and missed it. All should be ok now, but if any other errors are found please bring to my attention. Thanks again Spitzenhund!

    Vin Arrow Bases Mod

This mod works with all cmx2 games. The default is the thick bright arrow, which I think is the best, but there are lots of other alternate base shapes such as a pentagon to use if you like.

Check these out. I think you will find them more functional, and attractive over the stock bases.

Look at the sizes of the turns. Multiply the number of turn files by the number of turns. 13MB/turn ish. *60 turns for an hour. 780MB per hour. It's about the size of an actual movie. Now, that's okay if you just want to stream it, but if you want to load it into a program that can change your viewpoint, you're looking at quite the memory hog, given that a 13MB turn expands to 20 times that size when opened in the game client. There's probably a way of doing it that doesn't involve loading a 30Gig file for a 2 hour game, but it isn't "just lowd orl the turnz". Also, given that it can take more than a minute to load a single turn, you'd be doing a mite of hangin' about if it was "just lowd the turnz wun at uh tym". It probably isn't beyond Charles and Phil's skills, but is it worth the time to write a specialist "CM cinema" application?
It might be different, if the game file architecture wasn't so determinedly "this stands alone", but it is: turn files are the whole scenario at the point of the save, not just the differences between the start and now, or a record of orders that gets processed up each time using the recorded results of randomisers. It's all precalcultated and the results in terms of pixels moving and variables changing is recorded, and that's what's rendered when you replay a turn. Regardless of the pros and cons of that approach, that's the approach that everything else has to derive from.

"just lowd orl the turnz" Thanks for the mock bro, you totally showed me why I shouldn't expect any engine advancements with new entries in the CM line up.

I have a suggestion to make navigating for information slightly easier.

    1. Under the Maps and Mods subforum can we have one section for complete maps and mods and another section for incomplete maps and mods (so people can present what they have so far)

    2. A Multiplayer subforum, so that it's easier to find matchups.

    3. A Strategy and Tactics / AAR subforum. I find it a shame when AAR's or Strategy questions get buried by general user questions or statements.

Spitzenhund reacted to exsonic01 in Suggestion: Give us 'ironman' mode
    Hello all

How about giving 'ironman' mode to campaign? (name 'ironman' is coming from XCOM's that ironman opetion)
It means NO SAVE & LOAD during campaign games. You can only save & load before / after each games during any campaigns. In the middle of game, you cannot save and load, and all your decisions will be irreversible. (Or, lets give a chance to save only every 1hr in the middle of the games, just in case you need to leave or go to bed...)

In real world, there is no save and load, and every commanders must be responsible for his commands and directions. I hope this game becoming realistic in "absolute way", so give us chance to pay for our impatience or greediness I can guarantee that this mode will be painful and somewhat masochistic (like how XCOM ironman mode do), but hey, that is the war in the real world. This will truly give us some chances to see how real commanders think and feel on the field.

If someone finished the CM:BS campaign with elite+ difficulty with ironman option and uploads the evidences in the forum, then let's give him (or her) honor in this forum, with distinctive nicknames or badges in the forum profile.

I have been thought this kind of idea from the days of Close Combat, since everyone can finish the campaign with lowest possible casualty with infinite save & load. Of course, one can 'choice' not to play with save & load, but eventually, everyone will gonna use save and load. So I think this might be forced from the game options.

    How do you think?

    Thank you

    Best,

I'm curious as to how many of you are playing the game. In the WW2 titles there was not much reason to play it in real time as the combat was far slower. However in CMSF I found it impossible to play in We-go due to too much happening in a minute to the point that I would simply be watching my men get slaughtered. However this game is slightly larger scale than CMSF and with no insurgents appearing out of no where. I'm thinking of playing this game in We-go but i'm afraid of getting all my guys killed in CQB.

If this game doesn't release by the end of this month then BF should really give up on guessing the release of their game and just release it when it's finished.
