Ha! I was hoping not to be able to re-start CMSF2 to have a get-out clause from the drubbing you are currently giving me in our PBEM ... 😢

Rather odd but I can't open CMFI, CMRT, and CMFS2. CMBN, CMBS and CMFB all work fine.

Edit: Never Mind. I had another app that was causing a problem, once it was closed all worked fine. Sorry, Phil, I was hoping to help you out but I had no luck.
    However...
if you go into \users\PhilM (or whatever your personal user folder is) at the bottom you may see some files with gobbledygook names that are just unintelligible. Those files are error logs. If you submit a ticket include those files.

Mine is updated to 10.15.4 and all titles run correctly, including the RT beta. I didn't notice any difference in behavior after updating Mac OS X. I realize that doesn't help you, however, it doesn't seem to be specifically the update that is doing it, but may be related to it, just not the main cause.
    I have two suggestions:
    a) Try to open any CM title, watch it bounce, Open System Preferences, go to Privacy and Security and see if there is a message there telling you it can't open, and you can override that.  If that is not the case and there's no message like that then try b) below.
    b) I would suggest picking one title and reinstalling it from the all in one installer. You shouldn't have to relicense, just rename the folder your existing one is in (add "-save" to the folder name). Then run the installer and install new.
When you do that you will get a message along the lines of can't verify there is no malware - go to System Preferences and tell it to open anyway. Then it will verify the installer files, and you will have to answer the open question a second time. Then it should install.
When you start the game, you will probably have to do that same sequence again to tell it to run anyway.

Drat! Darn these time zone differences! You've told me I can't say it even before I managed to say it ...
As a buyer of CMFI "the hard way" as you described above, including now R2V, I'm fine with the current pricing policy: I value the long-term access and enjoyment, plus paying a little more over time, over a cheaper price for buying the whole bundle now but not having had the game to play.
But ... outside the cost / pricing regime, having CM3 as a single core game engine with "families" (or similar ...) of content to use with it is exactly what I hoped CM3 would be. (FWIW, I seem to recall that you did indicate at some point in the past that you might go down that route?)
It seems to me to have no (?) downsides to the user?
BF would perhaps have fewer revenue-generating opportunities? But also much less work to keep one engine going, even if it did have to cope with a "universal" set of potential circumstances that would not be needed in every "family" of content?
But I wouldn't want to put a crimp on the BF Maui beach-front condo retirement plans ... 😎

Michael. It's not the 64 bit question, although that IS a Catalina feature (or issue depending on your perspective). The security for applications without Apple's blessing is tighter. There is no "anywhere" that Elvis posted up above anymore.  That's currently on Mojave and earlier but is gone now on Catalina so you have to specifically authorize it on Catalina.
The easiest way to get around this now, if BF apps still have that issue (they do in Beta), is this:
    1. Instead of the usual double click on the installer after download, RIGHT CLICK on it and select OPEN from the menu. That will bypass the first security check and keep you from having to open System Preferences/Security to authorize it.
(NOTE:. If you forget and double click, it's ok. There will be an unauthorized developer message. Open System Preferences, Security tab, and at bottom right click on Open Anyway)
    2. A "verifying" window with progress bar will open. It's takes at least a couple minutes. 2/3 of the way it will look stuck. Just wait it out.
    3. A window will appear asking if you really want to open it, something about not being able to verify for malware. The default is set to cancel, so you have to physically select Open.
    4. Then you get the normal installer windows for Mac and in a few minutes you'll be up and running.

John, you may want to copy and paste this to somewhere handy for the help desk and pin it when R2V is released - or maybe pin it to some overall Mac users spot since it applies to anything installed under Catalina.
ALL of CM games run just fine under Catalina. I've noticed no issues at all either in R2V beta or any of the other titles.

BTW I'm one of the "weird Mac testers"  🙂

Interesting to see that I’m not the only one who thinks this way. Especially when playing against  a stronger player, or one who has the stronger side, as we sometimes see in CMSF2 or CMBS, I decided some time ago to play more to deny the enemy an outright win than to try to win myself. And in some truly tough battles, eking out a draw can feel like a huge victory from my standpoint. If I exceed my expectations, so much the better, but not winning is not an automatic disappointment.

PhilM reacted to Schrullenhaft in Will someone please help me get CM Helper working
I'm not really an user of CM Helper, but I downloaded and installed a copy. I got version 1.75 from here (a 'tiny url' that points to a DropBox location for download):
    http://bit.ly/cm-helper
I extracted this to its own folder as you have done. Double-click on the 'cmh.exe' file (which doesn't have an unique icon) and NOT the 'CMH.ico' file (which is an icon file that has an image that you may want to select as the icon for CM Helper) and that should launch CM Helper which will display two small windows the first time it is launched (image attached is the main CM Helper window). One is the actual application itself and the other is a small diagnostic window that shows what CM Helper has done to configure itself with the CM games that it finds on your computer.
I'm not sure where the "Windows asks me if I want to allow the program to be added to the computer and I click "Yes"." originates from since I had nothing like that occur on my computer (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit). Is this a different version of Windows (Win 10?) or possibly some sort of security program checking to see if you were intentionally installing a program ? If this is a security program doing the checking, then you may want to look through that program's controls to see how to fully enable CM Helper (in case it is being 'blocked' in some manner).
If you want to launch CM Helper from the desktop, then open up the Windows File Manager, right-click on the 'cmh.exe' file and select 'Create shortcut' from the popup menu. Copy this newly created 'cmh.exe - Shortcut' file to your desktop (it will be a 'generic' icon). Then right-click on this icon and select 'Properties' from the popup menu. In here click on the 'Change Icon' button at the bottom in the middle. In here click on the 'Browse' button and browse to the location for the 'CMH.ico' file and select that. Highlight the image that shows up below and click 'OK', the click 'Apply' and then 'OK' and your icon should now be the one if the icon file instead of something generic.

one never knows, but at the moment not expecting it.  It would require quite a bit from BF in terms of animations etc.  Seems like a bridge too far for too few use cases.

    Steve,
I understand and accept that this (my bold bit of your quote above, and the rest of your post) is so: my piling in was only to increase awareness of the problem and get BF customers to check their card accounts, JUST IN CASE some of the problems are related to people's BF transactions. As you also say, the cards may well have been compromised  in a completely different breach ...
So, apologies if it seemed like I was holding BF to account for this; nothing further from my mind.
And even if it were the BF transaction (though not BF ...) at fault ... my CMSF2 big bundle upgrade is well worth the hassle of needing a new credit card!  😊

I just don't understand how someone can pay 60$ to fly an F86 over Georgia circa 2008, the Persian Gulf in the 2020s, or Normandy in 1944. But sure the joy of doing so is real to them. I usually tolerate and respect, until I observe those same individuals getting all worked up when one just mentions to them, or in front of them, that alternative sims exist, with better value for money to the average fan.
There already credible alternatives, who actually have expressed respect for your work in public several times, yet approach the subject matter differently. I have no reason to assume more developers will turn out to do similar games, with emphasis on different aspects or looking at different periods. The past is a different country, they do things differenly there... the catch being that we are all the past of some future.
Tolkien was an Edwardian man who came to see:
    - crashing the Empire to abject lows of oppression and eventual dissolution,
    - along with the downfall of the ethical, moral  and political system of the 19th century,
    - two vicious world wars,
    - a great depression,
    - with the cherry on top that was the cold war and the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction.
So he was perhaps a bit dramatic, and that ending sounds like being sad. But my reading is that Tolkien was just observing that the Old plants the seeds of the New, and it is a good thing for the former to leave space to the later, to make its own mistakes or reach heights never seen before. Such is the way of the world, until somebody makes the mistake to invent a potion of eternal youth

Yeah, too bad the Naval guns aren't in. The 5-inch Destroyer guns are equivalent to 127mm vs the 155 mm, but the 5-inch guns don't use Excalibur rounds in this time frame, and have a "boat-load" more rounds (pun intended).

yeah they didn't add naval guns into CMSF so they do just show as standard arty and behave as such.
