  1. Let's just say that every new day offers a new discovery . . . (Truth be told, retirement's been wonderful. I recommend it highly! )
  2. 54 - a mere babe in the woods yet! Wait until you're 65; geezer-hood, curmudgeon-ness, and incontinence await thee!
  3. Now, there's a legacy backup system for you! Gives a whole new meaning to, "Old ways are best".
  4. CMBN is a legacy design of sorts. It pre-dates M$osft's separation of data folder out from program folders. If aliases work for CMFI, CMRT, and CMFB but not CMBN then I would suspect it's likely because of something related to that "older" directory structure.
  5. As a former IT projects professional, I can vouch that you are are likely correct to note that flipping the switch and loading the data took 10-20 minutes. The acceptance testing process, however, is labor intensive and requires extensive subject matter time and expertise performed in a deliberately controlled fashion. Steve already mentioned that several things which looked good on the plan went bump in the night in the new platform. Paul Masson was right about software too!
  6. A fact to which I can readily attest, min ven! However, the therapy sessions are going much better now and my catatonic fits occur less often . . . To the points already raised, I suppose it really does depend on what phase you're in at the moment. Competitive H2H are best served by Meeting Engagements. Attack and Defense require skills at planning, flexibility in responses, and fortitude in play. CM games effectively allow players to explore all those approaches as it suits them. These are games that certainly keep you from getting into any kind of rut.
  7. My experience one with "Probe" mirror match left me dissatisfied. I felt the burden was on the probing force which lacks sufficient strength to secure defended objectives. On the other hand, I know a player who prefers Probes to Meeting Engagements for his H2H matches.
  8. "I see" said the blind man to his deaf wife as he stumped along on his wooden leg.
  9. “Men grow tired of sleep, love, singing and dancing, sooner than war.” ― Homer Enthusiasm for the study of war is not love of war, itself a phenomena as old as humanity. Human conflict is entwined with our nature and requires self-examination to comprehend.
  10. It's the understanding of war. Ignorance is not remedy.
  11. Please consider uploading this to CMODS III (http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/) or PM @Bootie to coordinate making this generally available. Thank you.
  12. You're confusing tournaments @MeatEtr. You picked the prize from the "Big Ass Kettledrums of War" tourny but you only won the measly "Drums of War" competition. Here's the prize you merit instead.
  13. I'm just beginning to watch NatGeo's "The Long Road Home" on HULU but also available at https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/the-long-road-home/ Some things seem off (like the flimsiness of "impassable" roadblocks in a few places) but I'm willing to attribute them to film making limitations. I'm three episodes in and look forward to watching it all.
  14. Any chance of posting those instructions here so we can prepare ourselves ahead of time?
  15. I thought that Battlefront does not update the Demo's. Try downloading and learning CMFB Demo instead. The controls are the same in all the games.
  16. We can start with Wikepedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bazooka It seems the M1 could penetrate 76mm of armor while the M9 could penetration 102mm. The M9 was 3 inches longer, used improved rocket rounds, and was 3 lbs / 1.5 kilo's lighter. Rocket Launcher, M1 "Bazooka" First issued June 14, 1942 by Capt. L.A. Skinner Used the M6 HEAT and M7 Practice rockets. Could penetrate up to 3 inches (76 mm) of armor. Velocity of 265fps (80.77 m/s, 180 mph) Overall Length: 54 inches. Weight (unloaded): 18 lbs. Rocket Launcher, M1A1 "Bazooka" Improved electrical system Simplified design Used the M6A1 HEAT and M7A1 Practice rockets. Forward hand grip removed. Contact box removed. Supplanted the M1 in production beginning in July, 1943. Overall Length: 54.5 inches (1,380 mm). Weight (unloaded): 13.26 pounds (6.01 kg). Rocket Launcher, M9 "Bazooka" Battery ignition replaced by trigger magneto. Could be disassembled into two halves for easier carrying. Metal instead of wooden furniture Used the improved M6A3 HEAT, M7A3 practice, and M10 Bursting Smoke (White Phosphorus) rockets (Weight: 3.4 lbs., Velocity: 265 feet per second). Could penetrate up to 4 inches (102 mm) of armor Supplanted the M1A1 in production beginning in October, 1943 Overall Length: 61 inches (1,500 mm) fixed / 31.5 inches (800 mm) folded. Weight (unloaded): 15.14 pounds (6.87 kg). Overall Length: 61.1 inches (1,550 mm) fixed / 31.5 inches (800 mm) folded. Weight (unloaded): 15.87 pounds (7.20 kg).
  17. Start with the bibliography, footnotes, and reference source materials for Anthony Bevor's "Arnhem" --> https://books.google.com/books?id=UfpdDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT259&lpg=PT259&dq=corporal+bolton+arnhem&source=bl&ots=BE9wJjl4Fa&sig=XbA9q0ZyvmqgWJRhWFYfRszQlJQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiZ_LePu4TcAhWC34MKHV5YBhoQ6AEINjAC#v=onepage&q=corporal bolton arnhem&f=false
  18. "Bone Tomahawk" is well cast and well done but a bit disturbing. "This is not the time for womanly imaginings."
  19. This is already achievable in the game as is, just not as a defined TO&E editor. The game quantifies these changes for "fairness" too. In any Quick Battle or Scenario Edit, one can always delete unwanted unit elements down to squad level and add whatever and however may special teams as one desires. Selecting for an urban attack? Add a couple Scout teams with demo charges and a few Engineer teams to your assault platoons. Same goes for BAR, MG, Flame, and Bazooka teams. Add these specialists to an existing company or platoon HQ and you can tweak the battle force all kinds of interesting ways. The net result is still "balanced" by the selection points in H2H games. Play around in the Editor to see for yourself.
  20. There are some unit patch mods for CMBN and CMFI, some of which linked below. I would love to see every Allied division for all WW2 titles made available. http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?page_id=5#search/text=unit+patches http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=1247 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=1155 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=4350
  21. It was a long long time ago and the memory has faded but I want to say that it was "Byzantium" by Stephen Lawhead.
  22. I couldn't figure out how to get a ground scale in this app. For example, what is the width and height in meters of Bil's example above? What am I missing? Thank you.
  23. Yep, so-called "Literary License" (Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story . . . ) I first learned of it in an account about the Varangian Guard in Byzantine service during the time of Harald Hadrada. It was a work of fiction though and could have used the unreliable basis you mentioned.
