  1. Why isn't there an option to include trenches in the fences/walls catagory ala Combat Mission Afghanistan. I remember reading something about including certain ways of creating steep grades in Combat Mission Red Thunder's editor, but so fat I haven't seen anything. It was so useful in CMA, and they really resemble actual trenches, with the cover to boot. Furthermore, they are actual indentations in the earth, and are organic to the map. Just my 2 cents; it should at least be an option.
  2. I think I understand what you are saying. I don't think I am following through the turn, but who knows. Still up for anyone to send me a turn. I'm usually really good with returning them. Any setup works, and I've posted my dropbox email above.
  3. Hello again gentlemen. After a frustrating night, I believe I am throwing in the towel. I tried to install and run Head 2 Head Helper, Dropbox, and create the first turn of a game and nothing has worked for me tonight. Then I realized I should use CM helper 1.5.0, and although it recognized my folders (One is located in documents/battlefront, one is located in program files (x86)/battlefront) nothing else changed. I am now getting an error in the log folder (h2hh spit out an error, but didn't really speak the same language as I.) Again my dropbox email is cjburke86@yahoo.com and if anyone could send me a CMRT game, basically anything goes, I'd be very much obliged. ----- From my log (Example of me trying to send a game to Sublime): Noting new CM Red Thunder game based on C:\Users\twburkenh\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Red Thunder\Game Files\Outgoing Email\Fry Sublime.ema Adding game: Fry Sublime.ema Checking if I can see the app: C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlefront\Combat Mission Red Thunder\CM Red Thunder.exe yes Checking folders for Fry Sublime.ema (no custom game file folder specified... looking to see what you have... looking: is there's a single game file folder C:\Users\twburkenh\Dropbox\Fry Sublime.ema nope... ... ok, is there's a game file folder pair? nope.) 4. I threw an email in another thread, but I'm going to use Cjburke86@yahoo.com for my dropbox. I am going to be sending games out to the gentlemen on this list, hopefully you have dropbox and H2HH up. Available for any manner of play Red Thunder.
  5. Hello. I am interested in starting a PBEM battle. I have no qualms as to side or type of battle. I might need a refresher on how to use Head 2 Head Helper, but I've used it before in conjunction with drop box. Maybe I'll need a hand with that too. If anyone could direct me via link, or post below, how to use them, it would be a great help. My email address will be RutherfordBonnerIV AT G m a i l . c o m. Thank you for any and all replies. PS: Maybe we can make short battles... it might be a bit optimistic, but they might release another patch during our game that could make it unplayable.
  6. I believe this is a hold over from CMBN to simulate a spotter being able to see past, through, or over a hedgerow. Something like that. Its not too far that a forward observer can look out of his LOS, but it can be helpful and seems to me like something a good observer would be able to do anyways. I don't know, its been a long day at work and suddenly time seems to be going really slow and I'm super hungry.
  7. So I should just keep 1.01 on my computer as well, just incase? To be honest, I don't feel like waiting to find out if my game is going to crap out on me. The only difference I saw in the patch notes was that QB was tweaked some way or another, and I thought that only affected games vs. the AI. I would like a little more info on just what was changed.
  8. I'm pretty sure I've loaded a single player saved game since the patch, maybe I'm mistaken but I'd definitely need you to elaborate.
  9. ????? Do explain. I planned on sending Sublime a game. Provide links if possible (Not being sarcastic or rude; this is the first I've heard of it. I'm recently about to be taking on a lot more free time with regard to gaming, and I was hoping to get a couple CMRT games going as that is the only recent version that I currently own. If multiplayer doesn't work I'd be pretty bummed out.)
  10. I agree. Maybe if they could implement a Combined Arms option together with some revamped AI grouping, we wouldn't worry about Tanks assaulting a house. AFVs and artillery pieces should always operate under a different set of maneuver guidelines than infantry.
  11. You sort of contradicted what you said in the first two sentences above. I'm not trying to be jerk, and I think I understand what you mean, but you are saying that the modules are interchangeable, not the updates. I think I'm following that thread as well. ----------------------------- But my comment, or rather question is: will there be a 1.13 patch for CMBN? The fixes that are listed along with the patch can be utilized in the 1.x versions. I think maybe one thing is redundant, and one might not apply. I'm just looking for clarification on this. Furthermore, I am also expressing, if this is not the case, frustration. This was not the case when rolling out the "Updates" in the first place. We were all assured that the patches would not add new features and would available for all users. This was done with the last upgrade. A lot of people were called out for confusing patches and updates. Now it seems that they are dependent upon each other, and no longer can it be said that game fixes would and always would be free. ---------- Edit: "when rolling out the 'Updates' in the first place" changed from "the 'Updates' in the future."
  12. Battlefront: We are... it's an Upgrade. Patches are things that fix or make small tweaks to existing features. Upgrades are things that add new functionality or significantly change basic behavior. It is standard software terminology that has been used for about 20+ years. - http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?p=1545550#post1545550 for context. I am not trying to run a gotcha on Steve, I'm just backing up my point. ============================================== All I'm trying to say is that the patch feature list (which I won't bother to repost here) is comprised of fixes that affect almost versions/patches/updates/branches of Combat Mission Battle for Normandy. At the very least, upping the price of rockets and improving tank behavior is enough for me. ------------ 1.12, if I remember correctly, was a patch that included the fixes included in version 2.0 and was released a little while after 2.0 itself. Are you going to release a patch for the 1.0 version and name it 1.3? I was one of the early adopters of CMx2 and currently enjoy Red Thunder. Am I missing something here?
  13. Whatever happened to patches being separate from the upgrades? I was really excited to check out some of the new features in my version of CMBN, (I also own CMRT) but... apparently I need my game updated to the latest version to run said patch. ------------- Battlefront always said that patches and upgrades were totally separate things; patches would always be available no matter what your version number. Rough quote: "Patches don't include new features, they are free and mostly are for game fixes. They will be available for your version of Combat Mission" (IF you really, really... really need me to find a quote, I can spend an hour searching the forums). ------------ So unless I upgrade my game, which is purely optional (it wouldn't take me more than a minute to go back and grab one of those quotes)... I can't get the game fixes? So the game needs to be patched, something is obviously wrong (let's use AI QB force selection as an example)... but unless I pay for the upgrade, I'm SOL? ----- This isn't what Battlefront said when they changed their marketing tactics. While responding to people who were critical of the upgrade model, they continuously said that Upgrades were worth it because they added new content. Patches would still be around for people who bought the game and wanted it to be as fixed up as possible. This was one of the selling points of the upgrades, they add new material. Patches were supposed to always be available, because all they did was fix game mechanics. ----- Trying to not "whine" here. Just laying out a few points and examples that I think illustrate my point. The only patch option that wouldn't affect version 1.12... or whatever I have, would probably be : Aircraft control returned to original method (observers have control) ---------- So can you please release a version for 1.0 and 2.0? Here comes the snark; if you don't release these patches, what's the point of keeping 1.0 or 2.0 out there at all, except only to get an additional $10 when someone buys a new copy of the game? Does it make sense to have 3 separate "branches*" of this game at all? Will you ever reach a point where you release a _____ (need a thesaurus to come up with another term that you haven't used yet) that will bring up all "branches" to the same version number. Maybe after Black Sea is released? +++++++++++ *Branches- this is the latest term I've read used to describe the different versions of the game. It's taken right from the Battlefront front page.
  14. Improved quick-battle choices... could the force selection be fixed? Gonna give it a few goes and then check back here to see what the rest of the herd has to say.
  15. Well I guess this thread has been derailed due to anyone who has a horse in this race attempting to change the subject. Maybe this sort of thing makes you uncomfortable. The fact of the matter is that regardless of any NDA, Steve said himself that this fix is going to take a lot of time and effort. He also used the same phrasing when he explained the $20.00 price for the new vehicle pack. So once again, I am merely questioning their priorities. Yes I know this is coming off as snarky as f___, but I still think a lot of people are thinking the same thing and are either a. not signed onto the forums or b. part of the silent majority lurker type.
  16. And I believe Togi's point is that Battlefront's priorities seem to be releasing updates and modules (which generate immediate income) instead of releasing patches (which see no immediate income as the recipients have already paid for the game). You can call it paranoia, or you can bite your tongue and claim non-disclosure. Either way, I don't think its a huge leap to scratch your head at the number of upgrades and modules that have been released (such as the vehicle-pack that, according to Steve himself, needs to be priced at $20 per unit to make a profit) and wonder why they haven't spent more time and effort releasing a fix that since August they've promised is right around the corner.
  17. Ditto! What's that? Ten characters minimum... okay, there go.
  18. Steve mentioned that people could use vehicles from the vech-pack if their opponent had purchased the product. That is to say, if I play someone with the Fancy Vehicles Module and I have only CMBN vanilla, I could be playing against ARVEs and Crocodiles, or choose them myself? Was this a mistake, or is that really true? It doesn't fit their current model, (pay for essentially everything that comes out) but if that is the truth it would really help a lot of us without said modules to continue to play PBEM battles online even if we don't want to continue purchasing modules at the moment. (Upgrades are here to stay apparently, so without them I guess I'll be stuck playing myself.) ------------- Something that I would gladly pay for, in fact something I believe should be free but still, something I would gladly pay for, is improved AI functionality. (Mostly with regards to QBs) I know we can't have random QB maps, I'm fairly okay with that one. But one is usually attacking from the same side. In Red Thunder especially, it feels like if one sets certain parameters such as meeting engagement, open/rough medium size, you're gonna be playing on one of two maps. The AI force selection is so bad one could claim it is broken. Would it be, I know how snarky this sounds but I mean it sincerely, that difficult to re-implement Combined Forces? I'm pounding a dead horse into the ground here, but I'm really sick of picking my force only to go up against 10 At guns. The AI battle plans are wildly predictable. Once one understands the game mechanics, usually by creating their own map, it becomes obvious what the enemy will do at any given time. This is usually endemic to this game genre, but I feel like with more thought and time given to the triggers we can improve the AI. Even if we have to cheat, and give the AI some sort of Aggression increase when the total force value of their opponent has been weakened, it would probably work better than what we are working with. I've had several battles where I walked right over the computer, only to find that it had 4 AFVs sitting in a meadow that I bypassed. Maybe it can be done without much cheating (on the AIs part). Maybe it can just remember, like a player would, how many units of each type it has destroyed. I am mostly thinking about AFVs as they can truly dominate a map especially once most long range AT assets have been destroyed. With the AI plans being the way they are, once you figure out what group an enemy unit belongs to, you can generally figure out where the whole group is going even if you only spot one unit. I've fought battles that appeared to clearly be made for infantry vs infantry battles. IT was mixed forces, and I brought in 2 Su-76s and an IS-1. My computer opponent went almost entirely with armored forces. They were so intent on getting to their "waypoint" that they completely ignored common sense and flung a few Tigers into the middle of a city square. I think the Triggers are great in theory, but they should really have more under the hood work with regards to decision making. Again, if this requires any sort of cheating, be it additional intel whilst clearing city blocks, or being psychic with regards to hidden AT guns, that's still okay with me. I want a challenge, but more than that I want a surprise. I'd love to see a group in full attack mode stop their movement plan for a turn or two if several of its units are under attack, only to continue their orders once suppression has been alleviated. -------------------- Sorry for the long post... I guess I'm just getting more and more disappointed in this series' priorities. Maybe I'll just resign myself to patient gaming. Maybe the prices will finally drop in a couple years. I still play Doom and Starcraft, some games are just that great. I believe this game has the potential, but until the AI is "fixed" and the pricing system is relaxed, I just can't devote my limited resources (time and money) to a game that even when its patched and upgraded to it's fullest, still seems broken. --------------- I'm not turning my back on this game in response to the nickel and diming, I understand this company has to make money one way or another. I just don't think I'll be helping fund the future anymore until either multiplayer is given a stronger focus, or the AI is finally fixed. Feel free to flame away, I truly do love this game series. (You can look up my opinion on improved multiplayer functionality, and even see my Fanboi glee upon playing my first RT battle, [only to realize that all the features I thought I was seeing were infact only in my head.])
  19. I can't remember where I read it, but I'm sure it was linked from here: One of the ways (primary?) to take out a T-26 in Finland was a molotov onto the rear deck. Something about exposed parts or an opening into the tank had something to do with it. Can't remember if they do it in the movie. (Isn't this the one where he jams the treads with a log?) I really enjoyed the movie, the OT-26s were awesome. Oh and as an aside, I also loved Das Boot, every character save one (the red-haired submariner) actually did the English overdubs at or around the time of making the movie, so it might be worth giving it a try.
  20. Doing an AAR, or something else?
  21. This along with the ex-slave journals, folk music recordings, and many other artistic contributions are all priceless. Some of those programs actually did a lot of good, if you are into those sort of things.
  22. Now you sir are getting your lurk on.
  23. Gentlemen, you do realize that this is a link to a World of Tanks webpage? I don't mean to come off like a hater, but it is essentially the Broadsheet Newspaper of the WW2 simulator genre. One could even argue its the RT (or FOX NEWS) of videogames; it is a Russian game after all.
