Excellent! It's always good to get new and revised campaigns to play, from a craftsman.

A quick word about the missions themselves. I play the game in Real time and I don't PAUSE the action very often so I tend to focus in one one area of the map and leave the other areas to manage themselves without my supervision. This means that the missions will be reasonably small, certainly a lot smaller than the battles you're probably more familiar with. I don't manage battalions in Real Time  with any efficiency but I can manage a reinforced company without any trouble. So all the missions will feature a maximum of one USMC company with some attachments. This is my sweet spot. as it happens, a USMC platoon manages the same as most companies. the manpower and firepower they have is awesome but it's easier to manage a platoon than a company, even when the squads are broken into three teams.
I also like to have a slow-ish start with a small force on the map at the start with the rest of the force arriving in stages. I often find it much easier to manage quite a large OB in this manner as I get it set up and into the action before the next packet arrives. However, both Watching the Detectives and Al Qusayr have the entire OB on the map at the start so they both have a faster pace. On the other hand, CAAT among the Pigeons is very small with only about twenty units to manage. And most of them arrive 10 minutes after the mission starts. You start with just three units but there's plenty to do.
I also like to play with all the bells and whistles so you'll have access to a lot of artillery and air support in these missions. The USMC is a light infantry unit but with the artillery and air support is more than capable of going up against the best the Syrians have.

If you intend to play as the Allies then you might get away with playing the harder version if you are playing against the AI but trust me, you don't want to be playing the harder version if it's H2H, unless you are very, very good!

Thanks for sending over the new file. That appears to have done the trick! I will re-start mission 2a but I now have my mortars. Thanks again fella, for your prompt attention.
    Cheers!

Whew! Aye there was an issue with off-map mortars (from the core file) not appearing. i fixed it by adding em as on-map assets.
My pleasure - the fix I just PM and emailed you should work for you and get you back on track.
    Cheery!

I think we might have discovered why I don't have the mortars. I'm playing v3 of the campaign (which I downloaded ages ago). I didn't realise there were later versions till I saw Erwin's post. I think the best thing would be if you could send me that shortcut to get me onto v6-2a, George. I only lost 8 men in the first mission, so re-starting 2a intact won't make that much difference but it will save me having to play the first mission again. I'll pm you with my email address. Thanks very much for your help!
    Cheers

Thanks for looking into it George. TBH I'm more concerned about the fact that I don't have the on-map mortars, than the off-map Wespes. What's the likely explanation for that IYO? I'm running the latest version of the game and the only explanation I can think of is that they have been deleted in some way by the addition of a patch or the 4.0 upgrade. I remember something like this happening with a missing ATG in the KG Engel campaign after the addition of an upgrade and BF had to fix it and re-release the campaign. I'll try and battle through this mission. Do you remember if the on-map mortars show up in any of the later missions? If so, hopefully they will make an appearance then.
    Cheers.

    Hello George,
Thanks for making this excellent campaign! I'm 20 minutes into mission 2. It states in the briefing that I should have 2 x 81mm on map mortars and 6 x off map Wespe. I don't have either of these and I have got to the stage now where they would be immensely handy. It doesn't say they are meant to come as reinforcements. Is it possible that they may have been deleted with the 4.0 upgrades? It wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened after an upgrade....

Hahahahaha. You got old Noddle Head bang to rights.
Although in real life, the last time I was in Yorkshire was 2000 when an old girlfriend was taking me to the Lake District.

.....Talking of aggravation. Hey Warts, have you been to Ripley Castle in Yorkshire, again recently? You can still see bullet holes in the walls from the last time your rough bloody lot were up here!

You might want to make sure you have the latest patch because before that, one's troops had the nasty habit of running towards the enemy when they came under fire! On the other hand, if you don't want any replies, why bother posting?

Ok. Fair enough it is. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I just don't want to see a bunch of weirdness dragged into this hobby/place like has plagued and destroyed a lot of others in the last few years. I come here to escape modern politics and real world BS. We'll chalk it up to bad timing/misunderstanding/lack of knowledge.
I am normally pretty friendly to noobs, believe it or not, thread just struck me wrong, I suppose.
    So, welcome.

Jesus Christ...don't bring that sh*t here. There's twitter and tumblr and facebook and a thousand other places for the oppression olympics.
As for the question...THERE'S HUGE diversity, unless of course you think all "white" people are the same. We have Americans, Canadians, British, Germans, Russians, Ukranian, New Zealanders, South Africans,  French, Poles, Dutch, Italians, (along with skins for black and brown citizens of those nations where viable) as well as Brazilian, Syrians, Indians, Sikhs, and plenty of portraits for Maori, Gurkha, Goumiers, Algerians, Japanese Americans, Druze, Assyrian, Palestinian, and Shi'ite. Hope that's enough "diversity" for you.
EDITED: CMBB and CMAK also had Finnish, Romanians, Hungarians, and Australians.
Burn it before it lays eggs...

I always thought that this bug related to narrow bridges but in one of the SF2 Task Force Thunder missions I encountered it on a wide highway bridge. Tried with a number of different vehicles but just got the "rubber band effect" about halfway across. Interestingly, I moved the cursor slowly across the bridge and found that at the point where the vehicles stopped I was getting an "impassable" sign as if I was trying to move the vehicle over the river below. This may explain why the vehicles would move no further. Would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed this on any of their bridge problems

There´s no (noticeable) shadows when overcast, which is realistic. Think the somewhat bland looking city streets add to the shadowless impression. Adding bits more contour and devastation might improve on that.

Right.  This is the "run towards the enemy" bug.  Here a two threads mentioning it but there are other places it's been noted too; Irrational Behaviour and Annoying withdrawal towards the enemy behaviour.  As I best recollect, it was fixed in all the titles except CMBN and has something to do with the TacAI in bocage terrain.

Hilts reacted to Aragorn2002 in What makes this module worth buying?
I'm struggling to convince myself that this module is worth buying. I've bought all CM games so far, although I never play CMBS and seldom CMSF2. My sense of loyalty towards BF isn't what it used to be after the endless delay. So buying it without a good reason is out. Winter in Italy is interesting, but not interesting enough for me. Brazilians, Indians etc. don't interest me at all. Goumiers might have, but they are unfortunately not in. The role of Waffen SS in Italy was small, so that's also not a good reason for me to buy this module. What about the campaigns and scenarios? Can anyone give me some details on the German campaign and German scenarios?

Playing this at the moment with my mate. It's a good little scenario and quite exciting. So far holding the paras off but I'm waiting for this bocage bug to rear it's ugly head and spoil things but so far so good. Cheers.
