  1. I get this screen when I add a new port to the map,I click no it updates, then when I exit this screen pops up again, and if I click yes exit without savings all the supply routes disapear from the map?
  2. In game Ambush is a bad excuse to double damage if this is correct, because the High Seas Fleet was ambushed at Jutland, and no Dreadnoughts were lost to either side, damaged yes sunk no ! The Queen Elizabeth class Dreadnought Warspite came under fire from a gaggle of German Dreadnoughts when her rudder jammed, and she did 2 complete turns before they could steer her,yet she survived but sustained heavy damage, but no more than 4 - 5 strenght loss in game terms! Battleships being sunk all the time by the game is not historical, they should get badly damaged and return to port to repair,I can see the point of sinking some to make the game more interesting and gain points.I never ever play a standard scenario that I have not edited the damage to WARSHIPS. Here is a summary of major warships lost in World War 1. Loss Summary Gun fire = Dreadnought = 0 Gun fire = Battlecruisers = 4 Gun fire = Pre-Dreadnought = 0 Ship Torpedo = Dreadnought = 1 Ship Torpedo = Battlecruiser = 0 Ship Torpedo = Pre-Dreadnought = 3 Submarine Torpedo = Dreadnought = 0 Submarine Torpedo = Battlecruiser = 0 Submarine Torpedo = Pre-Dreadnought = 9 Mines = Dreadnought = 1 Mines = Battlecruiser = 0 Mines = Pre-Dreadnought = 8
  3. Corps = 225 MPP, 5 MONTHS Build time. Battleships = 450 MPP, 15 Months Build time. My point is I'm a naval minded guy,but even I don't see the point building Battleships, during combat the battleships are far to easy destroyed even at level 2 naval warfare. When I first bought the original version of this game, and I loaded up a game and sent my strongest Battleships into action only to see them take unbelievable damage, even althought the opposing force was only Cruiser and destroyers ? I thought no way !!! I could not believe it,and when it happened again and again in different naval actions I said stuff this and uninstalled the game. After a year and this new expansion gets released I thought ok I will take the game of the shelf and reinstall and add the expansion, but the naval losses have not changed,it still happens,I have resorted to using the editor,in an effort to try and make the ships far more durable,go into battle and returned to port with the damage, and get repaired,as was the usual result of naval engagements, they are unlike land warfare in that they are hit and run combat !
  4. The scenario is far from the finished article but it does show how the different ship types work,I'm increasing the costs for any upgraded, plus still to tweak the amount of strenght loss in combat battles. The biggest problem I have with the game is how easy it is to destroy Battleships,I mean in the basic game they drop like flies, its like playing ten pin bowling,I'm naval minded but I don't see the point of building Battleships, for the outlay in resources and build time they are not worth the return you get its not historical but abstract fantasy!
  5. Ok understood I'll be nice, its just that the naval game is something I feel very strongly about, plus Scharnhorst is my favourite ship in history.
  6. Ok this is very much a work in progress,I have made a link available to anyone who would like to take a closer look at the changes I have made to the naval game. http://www.gamefront.com/files/22383...hanced+Mod.zip
  7. The best defence is what Germany done during the war, used the light screening forces to clear submarines and enemy destroyers, anyone that tries to use their heavy units is nuts, the losses for both sides are unsustainable, apart from that any damaged German ships are closer to safe harbours for repairs, while the allies are not,and risk even more losses trying to save badly damaged units. Also whats not in the game mines,Germany had mine free channels that allowed them access, but reduced the attack areas for submarines etc, wonder into a mine field and well you know the result, you get really wet and its along swim home!
  8. It did not take Britain more than 20 years to learn the lesson, its a little known secret that HMS Hood when hit by the salvo from Bismarck, had stowed on the deck amidships ammunution, and it was this that blew her in two,and not the lack of protective armour,Hood was one of the best protected ships Britain had!
  9. I whole heartly agree cruisers of any discription are far inferior to even the earliest Invincible class Battlecruiser,I'm trying to get this fact recognised in game at present time.
  10. The reason Scharnhorst was not allowed to engage allied Battleships I explained in an earlier post, but I will say again,it was not because the guns could not damage the allied Battleships, but because hitler did not want his only major surface units damaged so early in the war!!! The ships were to use their superior speed to flee the scene, if any convoys were escorted by Battleships, otherwise they could engage the merchant ships, because that was there primary mission, disrupt Britains merchant convoys, the heavy ships did not need to sink merchant ships to succeed in their mission, the fact that they were loose on the convoy routes was enough to scare the British admiralty! The 11 inch guns that Scharnhorst was equipped with were improved versions of the ones used by the High Seas Fleet WW1, and they damaged the British ships severely. They were used on the Dreadnoughts Westfalen class and the Battlecruisers Von der Tann,Moltke & Seydlitz classes!
  11. Sorry Big Al if you read this I disagree with you here. Answer to first point : I know this is a very old post, but I have been away from the game for a while, and I have just read this and I have to repond to this load of bull, the New German battleships that were Battlecruisers you mean Scharnhorst & Gneisenau with 11" guns that were not a very good armament, well the 11" guns were improved WW1 versions and the same guns did alot of damage during that war just ask the British navy. The reason they did not engage British Battleships in the second world war,was because Hitler forbade it,he did not want them damaged far from a safe harbour,so that he would be without his only large surface units so early in the war,and not because the 11" guns were crap and could not damage a hen house. Second point : I will concede they were old althought modernised between the wars. Third point : In that only Bismarck and Tirpitz were real battleships, and the rest were BCs or CAs is wrong. German warships WW2. Bismarck class ( Battleship ) Tonnage = 41,700 Lenght = 792 feet Guns = 8 x 15 inch. Armour belt = 13 inch. Speed = 29 knots Scharnhorst class ( Battlecruiser ) After the war Germany reclassed as Battleships! Tonnage = 34,840 ( Over twice the tonnage as the Heavy cruisers ) Lenght = 741 feet ( Over one hundred feet longer than the Heavy cruisers ) Guns = 9 x 11 inch Armour belt = 14 inch ( Belt thicker than Bismarck and 11 inches thicker than the Heavy cruisers ) Speed = 32 Knots Deutschland class ( Pocket Battleship/ Heavy cruiser ) Tonnage = 11,700 Lenght = 596 feet Guns = 6 x 11 inch Armour belt = 3 inch Speed = 28 Knots Hipper class ( Heavy cruiser ) Tonnage = 14,000 Lenght = 638 feet Guns = 8 x 8 inch Armour belt = 3 inch Speed = 33 Knots.
  12. Well Bill, heres a couple of small contributions to start with. 1 = Pre-Dreadnoughts,Battlecruisers & Dreadnoughts are far to easily sunk. 2 = In game terms Armoured cruisers,Light cruisers & destroyers, can successfully seriously damage or even sink Dreadnoughts or Battlecruisers far too easily. ( NOT HISTORICAL ) But here is Historical action or lack of action chase of the German Battlecruiser Goeben. Admiral Troubridge was instructed 'not to get seriously engaged with superior forces',Troubridges squadron comprised the armoured cruisers Defence,Black Prince,Warrior & Duke of Edinburgh. The 4 Armoured cruisers had 9.2 in guns versus the 11 in guns of Goeben, and had armour a maximum of 6 in thick, compared to the battlecruisers 11 in armour belt. This meant that Troubridges squadron was not only outranged and vulnerable to Goebens powerful guns, but it was unlikely his cruisers guns could seriously damage the German ship at all even at short range. In addition, the British ships were several knots slower than Goeben, meaning that she could dictate the range of the battle. Consequently Troubridge after some deliberation he signalled Admiral Milne with his intentions to break off the chase, mindful of Churchills order to avoid engaging a "superior force".
  13. Hi Bill, Yip I have changed Agincourt and Goeben also Germanys over seas Armoured cruisers Scharnhorst & Gneisenau, stupid question but what do I change in the UNIT scripts, editors I can play with altering AI stuff and scripts gives me the heebie jeebies Ok quick up date I took a look in the UNIT scripts,is it safe to just delete the whole section that applies to the ship involved or event for that matter,I don't want to break anything vital ?
  14. Hi pzgndr,Yes its a fab editor I'm still finding new things to play with on a daily basis,it all adds to the fun don't you know.
  15. Thanks for giving the scenario the once over its far from finished, but it gives a good feel for the changes made,by the way the scenario advances 1 day at a time baby steps you know!
  16. HMS Dreadnought the worlds first all big gun Battleship did not need destroyer escorts, because on 18th March 1915 she rammed and sank U.29 in the North sea during a Grand Fleet sweep hehehehe.
  17. Yes I'm sure I did that, but then again I have changed quite a bit please take a look for yourself I have made available the scenario in its present state,it is very much playable but a work in progress. FOE ANYONE WHO MISSED THIS I HAVE MADE THE LINK AVAILABLE HERE ENJOY! Ok this is very much a work in progress,I have made a link available to anyone who would like to take a closer look at the changes I have made to the naval game. http://www.gamefront.com/files/22383...hanced+Mod.zip
  18. Ok this is very much a work in progress,I have made a link available to anyone who would like to take a closer look at the changes I have made to the naval game. http://www.gamefront.com/files/22383257/WW1+Strategic+Command+Breakthrough+Naval+Enhanced+Mod.zip Britain now has every Pre-Dreadnought,Battlecruiser,Dreadnought that was present during WW1 she also has all 11 A Class Submarines + some other changes. Germany now has every Pre-Dreadnought,Battlecruiser,Dreadnought,Armoured Cruiser also. France has every Pre-Dreadnought and Dreadnought. ( Side note Danton class are Pre-Dreadnoughts althought built and completed long after HMS Dreadnought, the French did not alter their design for the ships,so they were completed to Pre-Dreadnought original design) As I said earlier this is still very much a work in progress but its still playable as is!
  19. Hi Bill, No the problem is lets say I have listed Lion as a level 1 in the battleships listing, when you load the game Lions cruiser version is still in the game,so I have 2 ships in the game a Battleship version and a cruiser version, this affects a few other ships,I have wiped the lists clean in the editor, but the problem still remains, some ships at present I can't change they lock me out?
  20. World War 1 most fighting was indeed on land, but as Churchill said Jellicoe was the only man who could loose the war in an afternoon,Britain's navy was vital in WW1,it kept the sea lanes open for trade, and it closed them to Britains enemys. With all the new ships I have in the game now,the naval game is extremely interesting to say the least I'm loving it!
  21. I will release as a mod at a later date, one or two things need sorted this thou, the increase at start to level 2 naval warfare is not the problem, its just that there are some ships hard coded, and they can't be changed or renamed until you start a game,I have said to Bill about this in a previous post, will keep my fingers crossed that somethiing can be done as a patch maybe, and make it an official release,I truely believe it helps the naval game considerably.
  22. Yes Cantona66 I think I could it works great, and helps the naval side of the game alot,it not only gives you more scope with the Pre-Dreadnoughts,Battlecruisers & Battleships, but as an added bonus you can now create Protected Cruisers,Light Cruisers & Armoured Cruisers as well and it dosn't stop there you are given even more options with destroyers too! The only teething trouble I have is some ships names appear to be hard coded, and at the present time I can't change these until the game starts, then you rename the ships that need changed,I have said to Bill in the reply prior to this one.
  23. Hi Bill, with all the land stuff I'm a fish out of water, but the naval side of things I love,in respect of the alteration I have made using the editor advancing the naval warfare to level ( 2 ) from the start is working great,I have come across a few problems with ship names,I think they must be hard coded in game,IE Lion,Moltke etc there are quite a lot of them really, that I can't change using the editor, when I change the Battlecruisers to level 1 Battleships, their cruiser variants are still in the game, and I have to rename them, that at the moment is the only problem I'm having due to the changes,if something like what I propose at the start of this thread could be implemented in game,it would I think help the naval side of the game.
  24. Question regarding Battleship task forces in game, does this mean destroyers and if so how many 4 - 6 screening the capital unit ?
  25. So I assume that its just me that feels that the naval game is wrong, from my listing at the start of this thread,Pre-Dreadnoughts are at naval warfare level ( 0 ) and yet Battlecruisers are only listed as Cruisers naval warfare level ( 1 ) How can a ship that is twice the size in tonnage, and over 250 feet longer, with more than twice the number of Guns, with a thicker armour belt and 9 knots faster be classed as an improved Cruiser, yet the much weaker ship is a Battleship according to the game,I now remember why I uninstalled this game when I first bought it,I can see it has improved in many areas and is a superb game, but the naval part is wrong I firmly believe that, would someone please address this issue,Battlecruisers of world war 1 were better in every way compared to Pre-Dreadnoughts,and yet this game lists them as improved cruisers, the clue is in their name they were called BATTLE for a reason, and that reason was to scare the Armoured cruisers of the era, they are capital ships please give them the recognition they deserve please.
