  1. Hi there Still having problems controlling mortar fire. I understand what "Denied" means when I try to call for mortar fire, but I have had an HQ unit standing beside 2 mortar teams. One I am able to call fire for from that HQ, but the other says "Out of Control". Can anyone tell me what that means? Dan
  2. As an aside - how accurate are the sounds of the mortar round actually exploding? It doesn't sound very explosive to me - it sounds remarkably quiet with a lot of "Woosh!" (sorry - not a sound engineer) and very little bas and hard edged sounds. Then again - I know that in movies frag grenades are way over the top in terms of light and sound and that a frag grenade in Real Life in no way looks or sounds like in the movies (The latter is designed to thrill and impress, the former is designed to drive shrapnel into flesh). Are mortars basically long range frag grenades and therefore don't sound like movie mortars? Oh ... another question. Was that scene in Saving Private Ryan where they slammed a mortar against the ground and chucked it like a grenade realistic? If so, I imagine its about as safe as playing Russian Roulette. Dan
  3. So under a pause command a target can still target and fire? That's good to know - I guess I assumed a pause command was the same as a Sleep command.
  4. My experience with weapons is limited to BB guns and modestly sharp spoons. So you are saying its the noise of the mortar? But on documentaries they show guys working with heavy artillery putting shells in and pulling out spent ones, but they seem to be impervious to the noise. Is a mortar louder than that, or is it just that the artillery crew has lost their hearing long, long ago?
  5. Hi there, Suppose you have a tank on overwatch and you are playing on WEGO. Suddenly a threat pops out nearby but you don't have direct LOS and you want to protect other assets. How can you tell the tank to drop 1 or 2 smoke shells using the WEGO system? In this situation my tank spent the whole minute emptying its magazine of smoke shells when 2 would have perfectly sufficed. Also - using the WEGO system, is there a way to get a tank to drop drop three smoke shells in a line? Thanks Dan
  6. Hi there, I always wanted to know this. In shows and in movies you always see mortar teems ducking and covering their ears when they fire. But it seems to me the noise is rather modest. It certainly seems quieter than heavy artillery, and even quieter than small arms. Is there some other reason for this? Is it the shock wave, or are they just bracing for a misfire or for incoming fire? I can't really think of what else it might be. Dan
  7. Ahhh ... yes - I get it. Thanks for the help everyone!
  8. Hi there, I see what you are saying, and yes - when the ground is perfectly flat its easy to scroll down and use the camera to look around. However if any point is on a slope, without a means of tilting the camera to see if the far point can actually be seen - finding LOS can be really difficult.
  9. I posted this before but somehow the post evaporated. Loving the game - the fact that its V1.0 and my units actually do what I ask them to do is a joy, and something that a lot of tactical games can't boast of. Anyway 1) Other than clicking on a unit and targeting, is there some other way of determining if two points are in LOS? It would be nice to tell that before asking a unit to risk their life in trying point after point. I know you can scroll in and see for yourself, but if either point is on an incline, without the ability of tilting the camera, its not much help. 2) How feasible is it in future to have a View Past option for RT? I prefer the RT as a control freak, but would love the option to view various things that appear cinematic or cool. Is this possible, or is the engine such that this is just not technically feasible? 3) Does Hunt always make your troops crawl? How is this different than slow? It seems that a Crawl button might be helpful since sometimes I want troops to be extra-cautious, but not suffer the exhausting effects of crawling. 4) Does weather just affect visibility, or can it affect artillery accuracy and vehicles getting bogged down? 5) How exactly using the WEGO system do you spring an ambush at the first vehicle to drive in front of you? I imagine it has something to do with hide, but can't figure out how to make the vehicle trigger an attack. 6) When I start the game I get the option to buy, which is strange - since I already have bought the game. Is this a bug - or am I imagining things? Anyway - really enjoying the game. Kudos to Battlefront for keeping the game in the oven until it was properly cooked and delicious. Dan
