sorry if this has come up earlier (i didn't read all preceding 24 pages) but my favourite 'perfect-german-hindsight-what-if' is the postwar interrogation quoted by beevor in 'berlin' when asked what they did wrong in WW2 a german general said 'we should have waited until we had nuclear weapons' this is so wrong on so many levels (and you thought general buck turgidson was frightening)
