Likely candidates for a future pack or module include SOF units that can also function as elite light infantry, like 75th Ranger Regiment and the majority of Spetsnaz units, and a few other units. However they would only be considered for duties that fall within the scope of Combat Mission, which is acting as elite light infantry or recon.
It isn't practical for us to support actual special operations, like the stuff that dedicated SF and counter terrorist units do. The Combat Mission engine simply is not built to support that sort of action.
The next question will be "why don't include you include SEAL Team Six/Delta/*insert fifty other forces here* and we'll just make do?" Because if we include it, people will expect it to be fully supported. And that would basically require a whole new game.
Yay! I prefer to play company-sized or smaller quick battles against AI, so having Tier √-1 Units to play with will, by their very nature, limit the mission creep that's been popping up in CM missions of late.

REALLY like the initial premise of the scenario, but I agree. It looks like "Speed and Power" is going to be a little too much of both for Bill to deal with.

That is, by far, the best (and shortest) description of modern warfare I've found. SO stealing it.

Was I the only one giggling in delight watching those SAM trails criss-cross the sky, chasing at the SU-25?
This game is going to be SO cool to play...
-
Given the success of small elite units doing MOUT during the GWOT, it would seem to me that small unit actions would be a natural fit for this game. Night raids, attacks on C3i, recon, the possibilities are limitless.

Tank riders! AA Guns that shoot at stuff up in the sky! Flamethrowers!
And I agree, bring on the beta AARs!
-
I wonder if all my 9mm smg rounds are modeled to be less lethal than full power rifle rounds? That would be interesting...
Based on the ft/lbs of muzzle energy and the effective range of a full-sized WWII-era rifle vs. that of a 9mm subgun, the subgun should be less likely to be a "man-stopper."
Pistol rounds are pistol rounds and rifle rounds are rifle rounds even when the pistol ammo comes out of a slightly longer barrel and therefore has more oomph behind it.
Great battle, great AAR. This one was going to go all 15 rounds.

Begone, you big bangers.
Must....resist.... urge to make joke about the Right and Left Tits...

Go grab those tits, Bill!
-
So. Cool. Now you need a GI-Spec 1911 to go with it!
-
I get the feeling that this battle will end up with a lone GI and a lone Bersaglieri throwing sticks and stones at each other
-
Yup, that M4 must have entirely filled the scope! I guess it was a case of premature tube evacuation!
Y'know, there are pills that can help with that these days...
What I love about reading these AAR's is that both players are convinced they're losing the battle, and one of them just happens to be correct.
-
Not sure if there is much interest in this AAR now that the game has been released,
Oh heck yes! I'm enjoying this! Keep it up!
-
I know the point of all of this is to a) iron out the bugs in CMFI and get us geeked for CMFI's release (which it is), but I'm just enjoying this AAR as a story apart from what it's supposed to do for Battlefront. Keep up the good work, guys!

"Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?"

Going off of the scenario briefing...
The building itself is large, formidable and on high ground, with grapevines covering the southern slope of the hill, and a small forested area on the nortwestern slope.... I stand by "vineyards".
-
What are those black lines below your yellow "HEAT Round Shot"text?
I'm guessing vineyards.

If Chuck Norris be for us, who can be against us?
-
so I'm going to try something daring and dash the demolition at them. With luck it will be blown up with a satchel charge before it knows what hit it.
Does CMFI have a "Here, hold my beer while I try this" command that I'm not aware of?
-
On-map 75mm howitzers!
I'll be in my bunk.

"Roaster" is for keeping track of the flammability status of your Shermans.

The return of troops riding on tanks. Yes, I get that tanks aren't IFV's, but if, say, a platoon of infantry and a platoon of tanks show up as reinforcements at the back edge of the map, it's be nice to have them be able to hitch a ride up to the front.
-
One shot, two kills are fairly common with soft-skinned vehicles and ATG's: There's a thread around here somewheres where somebody lined up a bunch of AFV's in a row and then shot 'em with a big gun. Hilarity (and multiple explosions) ensued.
I had one where the two halftracks were at least a couple o' dozen yards apart.
The ATG is in the upper right hand corner. We'll leave the discussion on exterior ballistics for another day, but dang, it sure came in handy in stopping that attack.
