  1. I haven't played the just-released update yet, but the thing I miss most is some sort of indication that a soldier has been killed. In CMBN we have red crosses and flashing icons when a unit is lost. In CMT there is neither.
  2. Oh yeah. Having tank crews panic is not a complaint at all. Frankly, if my best buddy's guts had just been splattered all over me as we sat inside our iron hulk, it would probably take more than 15 minutes before I'd be like "Oh, you want me to go get back in that thing? No problem"! However, because the game can't know the things that the human playing it knows you often get behavior that is probably not what you'd get in real life. Such as crewmen bailing out of a tank right as the threat is destroyed (by another friendly AFV) and running around out in the open, when it's obvious they'd be much safer back INSIDE their big, steel shield. It's just one of those things that is very difficult to simulate.
  3. That's been my experience with my own tank crews. Once they took a hit they would bail out and run screaming to the rear. In fact, in this very game ALL of my tanks that were hit had the crews bail out and panic. Of those, several crews were panicked for a very, very long time. When this game finished (around turn 38 or so?) I had a crew that was hit in the opening minutes of the game. They proceeded to run clear to the other side of the map! They hadn't so much as seen an enemy scout since taking the hit...yet they were STILL panicked at the end of the game. We're talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 minutes after losing their tank, these guys were still too freaked out to even take a "move" order. What's worse, their tank was the ONLY one that didn't get one-shotted by the enemy Shermans. If I had been able to rally them I would have had an operational armor asset. But nooooooooooo!
  4. The toughness of this tank was an anomaly, but the American tanks were able to consistently get off the first shot, even while on the move, even buttoned with dead commanders, while my Panzer IVs that were sitting still with perfect lanes of fire sat and did nothing. So, it's not that the American tanks were all indestructible, it's that most of my own armor never even got off a shot. For what it's worth, I replayed this turn three times to see what would happen. All three times the Sherman was destroyed within two hits. Two of the three times it brewed up/exploded on the first shot. So, basically very, very, very, very bad luck on my part, I guess. <shrug>
  5. The game finally ended (I got my ass handed to me, thanks to nearly indestructible American tanks) so I was able to capture this from the American perspective. Video available
  6. I would really love this feature, if for no other reason than to be able to watch a game play out without any interaction on my part. Each one would be like a mini war movie. Lots of eye candy and none of the stress of an actual game. :-)
  7. The crew didn't bail out because they were panicked (though they certainly were. Every one of my crews that's taken a hit has panicked so far). I don't have a problem with that. If I were in a tank that was hit by an AT shell from 200m away, I wouldn't stick around to see if I could live through another. The problem is that the tank shows as "destroyed", yet there doesn't seem to be a thing wrong with it. How is a tank destroyed when there's no apparent damage?
  8. I also have the flickering icons in 1.10 on my 2010 iMac. I don't have the shadow problems that you have, but have had strange shadow weirdness (shadows that look like stripes, flickering shadows, etc) since day one with this game (even under the original release). I was hoping it would be fixed in 1.10, but it's just as bad as ever.
  9. For what it's worth, my PzIV hit it once more at the beginning of the following turn (ricochet off the turret), then drove off, as I'd issued orders for it to move elsewhere. Even after a 7th hit, the tank still appeared to be operational, I'd seen not a single casualty cross, and the crew had not bailed out when I lost sight of the vehicle.
  10. This is my question as well. If all of the systems are green, the engine is running, the gun is fine, the weapon controls work, etc.... why is it destroyed? Saw the same thing a third time in this very same game. Here my crew are bailing out of a "destroyed" tank, even though all the subsystems are green. For those that were asking about a covered arc, I did not have a covered arc set. Steve has said multiple times that covered arcs should rarely be used, and only in certain circumstances. Since my tanks were looking straight down the road and had buildings on either side, there didn't seem to be much point in using a covered arc. The only place to look is straight ahead.
  11. I'll have to go back and re-watch the turn to determine what ammo the PzIV was firing. At this range, I really don't think it would matter all that much. Especially since all of the hits were penetrations (the 5th was a partial). I won't know what it looked like from the American side until the game is over, but I didn't see a single red cross pop up.
  12. I think the Yanks may be employing King Tigers, cleverly disguised as Sherman 105s.
  13. I'm currently playing my first 1.10 game (patch only, I don't have Commonwealth) and am getting a bit frustrated. Firstly, my PzIVs are stationary and getting beat to the punch by moving Allied tanks. How a moving tank is spotting and firing first when my tanks are stationary is beyond me. Not only that, but the rounds are hitting dead-on, even firing on the move (I thought that was supposed to be fixed?). Adding insult to injury, my tanks seem to be "destroyed" even when they seem perfectly fine. Exhibit 1: The Sherman in the distance fired on the move and hit me. I never got a shot off. But the really strange thing is that the Damage tab shows all green, but the tank itself says "destroyed". Also, the tank is destroyed but all the crew are fine and they remain inside for the remainder of the turn (several seconds). The next turn the Sherman fires again, killing three crew members. The radio and optics are both damaged, but the tank still says "destroyed". As far as damage goes, this thing should still be operational. In fact, I could hear the engine running in game. After the second shot the crew finally bailed out and ran. Is it my imagination or is this different than how the 1.01 version worked? It's been a while since I last played, but I don't recall apparently undamaged tanks being destroyed before. Exhibit 2: I have a PzIV sitting still, open cupola, with a perfect view down the road. The enemy brings a Sherman forward and my infantry manage to kill the commander. The Sherman panics and begins backing between buildings while popping smoke. He comes out from between the buildings *right in front* of my tank, only about 230 meters away. He's reversing, turning, popping smoke, and the commander is dead. He STILL gets off the first shot and scores a direct hit, while my tank that is sitting there waiting in perfect position does nothing. WTF!? Notice the burning Sherman in the background? Same exact thing. My Panzer was sitting still in basically this same spot. The Sherman was advancing right down the middle of the street. Again, the Sherman fired first and hit on the move. I just lucked out and took no damage, and my return shot killed him. Both of these Panzers are regular troops, no penalties (fit, fine leadership, etc). They're both in command. My guess is that my opponents troops are Veterans or better. But even if this is the case (I can't confirm until the game is over), this is not the behavior that I would expect. Even at very short distances like this, no tank with a dead commander and a panicked crew should be able to get a perfect shot while firing on the move. If this had happened once I would have chalked it up to bad luck. Twice, I began to suspect a problem. But three times in the span of four turns? Something smells fishy.
  14. I had the same thing happen in one of my early CMBN games. The German even begins shouting "surrender!" and is cut down anyway.
  15. Glad to see this new version. I've been having all sorts of problems with the End Game function in my games, but I thought it was just me. Yes, I'm using split folders. Hopefully this takes care of it.
  16. This is AMAZING! I cannot believe that thing survived for so long completely intact. A Polish friend of mine did some searching on the web site and seems to think that they completely repainted it during "restoration". The site isn't all that helpful, so I hope he is mistaken. I would think that it shouldn't be that difficult for someone to pull the serial number from it and see how and when it was lost. Personally, I'd guess that the hit it took had nothing to do with it getting bogged and flipping over. Edit: I don't know if any of you have looked at the other videos posted by this same YouTube user, but it looks like they've pulled out at least three T-34s in a similar manner. Also upside-down. One came out sans turret, but the other looks as complete as the Stug. Still full of main gun ammo and the big round MG ammo drums. Just incredible.
  17. That's one of the inflatable tanks that was stationed on the British coast to throw off the Germans as to the location of the Allied invasion.
  18. Well, to be fair, they HAVE said that they are planning changes for the UI in future games (but probably not modules). I'm just hoping they take my ideas, and the ideas of others, and work to incorporate them when possible. I really hope that they communicate during development and solicit feedback early in the design phase, before things are locked down and we're stuck with stuff that can't be changed.
  19. I think it's been pretty universally recognized at this point that combining a target arc with the Hide command is a Bad Idea. Units that are hiding don't spot well and tend to get slaughtered before they even see a threat coming. The more inexperienced troops are, the worse their spotting is likely to be (especially if they're out of command).
  20. Your men obviously have some sort of issue spotting since enemy units are only showing up as ? icons, rather than as unit icons. My guess is that your men are behind a hedgerow or some other concealment and that you've given them a target arc in a direction that they simply cannot see. You're most likely getting ? icons based on sound contacts, and units won't fire at those. A screenshot would probably be very helpful in diagnosing the issue, but it's definitely related to poor spotting.
  21. That works, but you should be careful since men will wait at that waypoint until everyone in the group either reaches the waypoint or is KIA. I've had several instances where my men would run up to a building and then stand there, exposed, waiting for a single straggler to catch up.
  22. I did a test and it looks like Sergei was right! I bumped up my screen resolution and suddenly everything is fine. That kinda sucks, because 1280x720 is the same resolution as 720p HD broadcasting, which makes it perfect for capturing high-def footage for YouTube. Also, it seems as though there's plenty of room to display the entire UI on a 1280x720 screen, but that there's whitespace pushing actual UI elements off the display area. I'd like to humbly suggest this be changed in a future patch, since there's no apparent reason for it not to work properly. Thanks for looking, everyone!
  23. My screen is running at 1280x720 resolution (720p). I don't think that's the problem since there's plenty of room there to display more buttons (note that the "German Army" icon is cut off to make room for the buttons) This is not an armor only battle. The first screen where I select game parameters is "Combat Force: Mix". Not only that, but when I click suggestions I am given infantry, and as long as I don't click one of the buttons the default that I see is all infantry forces. I understand the way that the C&C system works, and why you must purchase a whole battalion first. What I don't understand is why I can't select infantry units unless I do it first. I can't decide which units of the battalion I don't want until I know how many points I'm going to chew through buying armor, AT guns, etc. For what it's worth, this is the latest Mac version.
