Anything Ostfront in the CM series, is welcomed here.
Although early war would make me neglect my girlfriend far more than late war.
Axis allies are a good thing to play.
    Romanians, Italians, etc.

Doggone it, Phil's administrative assistant must have left the bourbon out after she was told to hide it from him.  Someone get the latte' machine fired up as we need to pump Phil full of mocha choka grande peppermint latte' with whipped cream on the top.  That way we can get him back on track and pushing out more cool BARB or STAL stuff.  He gets so maudlin when he hits the bourbon.
Ya just can't get good help these days.  Sheesh!  He never gets this way with Johnny...Walker that is...
Phil, with this StuG of yours, it might be possible to recreate Wittmann's early armor encounters, as he did some crazy things while commanding the early assault guns.

You're talking to Aragorn, the guy that only plays as the Germans in Combat Mission and has talked about how great a Holocaust deniers books are. Any time someone posts something about the Russians hes always very eager to tell us about how awful they were even if the topic has nothing to do with it. He has a very obvious agenda and honestly he shouldn't be posting here anymore in my opinion.
Sorry for the continued derail but I really feel like this needs to be said.

DLaurier reacted to DerKommissar in Was the Russian T-34 Really the Best Tank of WW2?
At the end of the day, I'd rather be in a Sherman, on the fields of Europe. They were made in better staffed, equipped, and stocked factories, which were safe from occupation and bombing. US and Canada had the luxury of time for quality control in both design and production.
US and Canada had ocean travel to consider. When shipping costs are paid in blood, tanks couldn't constantly be replaced. That's why the M3 and Ram were produced, before the M4. Knowing that a large batch of early production vehicles guaranteed trouble.
What if I'm in Stalingrad, though? I don't have aircraft engines, radios or the luxury of time. I don't have tankers -- only tractor drivers. I face better led, trained and equipped infantry and pioneers, in a tight urban setting. I don't need a Sherman, I need a T-34 -- a couple of mortars and a howitzer!

I read a book in Spring about how the Special Branch were using microphones to listen in on German PoWs. And in the beginning of that book is mentioned how the Germans saw themselves and also the mindset when it comes to violence towards other people which apparently should explain why Germans treated their PoWs and the conquered people ths way they did.

DLaurier reacted to landser in Fire and Rubble: What are you looking forward to the most?
I'll go against the grain and say I'm not looking forward to this module, but whichever one follows with 1941 and 1942.
Late war hardware doesn't light my fire. There will be a lot of very cool vehicles and formations in the module I'm sure. But as lethality goes up, compelling gameplay goes down, at least for me. And I am not a fan of urban fighting in Combat Mission, and I guess that will be a focus of the new module and associated campaigns? And rightly so if it is. All of which means this really isn't the one for me, and I am a big fan of Red Thunder.  Maybe I'll pick it up down the road, I'll wait and see it through the posts folks here make after release and make the call then.
We've waited seven years for this expansion, and if I recall correctly, Battlefront once said that the plan would be to do 1945, then 1943, 1942 and 1941, working in reverse. If each of those was a separate module with similar development time, 1941 would arrive 21 years from now and the chances of me still being around and able to conduct a proper battle will have gone way down.
So maybe I buy this one as my last shot

I hope not. I would rather see the CW 44/45 Expansion of Final Blitzkrieg after Fire+Rubble. However we might learn in the next 2 months what the plan will be.

That may be part of it. The casualty rates are more easily rationalized on the Eastern Front and CM:RT seems to want larger scale battles. I generally play reinforced company sized battles in the Western titles, but nearly always go for a battalion of infantry and at least a company of armor in RT.
Speaking of scale, for anyone who is unaware of it, you should really check out TIK's Battlestorm: Stalingrad series. At this point, it is the most detailed, step-by-step video documentary of the battle ever made. It's in ongoing production and the Germans are just getting close to the city. The series really shows how much fighting and attrition went on before the Germans even got to Stalingrad itself. A number of myths about the battle have been put to bed so far. -Highly recommended!

In the past (20+ years ago) one practically had to pay someone to play the Russians.  Everyone wanted to play the Germans and with their cool black and white SS counters.  One reluctantly played the WAllies.
Something changed in the late 90's so that when CMBO came out that seemed to marked the start of an era where people wanted to play the "good guys" mostly the US, and shockingly to some of us, even the Russians.
It might make a decent PhD thesis regarding trends in wargame design and their relationship to generations, or perhaps economic and social trends in society.

I can across this whilst doing some youtube surfing.
I was impressed by the production. The clip (taken from a German series called 'Dusty faces')shows a German unit in action in a small wooded area against some dug in Soviet infantry.
A warning - it does contain some graphic scenes.

This is documentary made for Russian Television about the Great Patriotic War and the Soviet Army's rise from defeat to victory. It even covers the war against Japan in the last chapter. There appears to be 18 chapters in all. The narration is in English but the maps are in Russian.

The interesting thing about this series is that they are honest about the mistakes made and needles loss of soldiers if that is the truth of the situation. Something that rarely happens in Russia, objective journalisim.

The reenactments of the battles are good and the CGI for the tanks, artillery  and aircraft looks great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A6UWkK2U4s      This is chapter one, Operation Barbarossa.

May we always remember the great sacrifices and losses the Russian people endured in the war. Salute comrades.

DLaurier reacted to Bud Backer in Somebody's Hero - A CAAR
My first CAAR (Comic After Action Report) was in the format of a DAR presented as a comic. To introduce some variety and also make this one a bit more like a comic, it will be presented less as an AAR and more as a story, following the actions and adventures of one man, a Russian soldier called Dmitry ("Dima") Ivanov. Of course this is also going to present the battles as well, so the AAR aspect is still included, just not the sole objective.

Some of you wanted to hear more about Lt. Warner, Cpl. Dietrich, and Sgt. Hirsch from my first CAAR; they will be back in another CAAR. At the time of this one, Warner and his boys are in Normandy, and later, in Holland during Market-Garden.

Once again, Kohlenklau is my partner in this, and I thank him for being a fun opponent in the battles and a patient friend in the delays doing these sometimes introduces.
