Reading some of the better accounts of the Kursk campaign might well be an instructive indicator. Many of the secondary roads in Ukraine are still probably little more than dirt tracks as we have seen in much film footage of the conflict in the region. And, at the tactical level vehicles, whether armoured or tracked must come off the roads at some point. All you need then is a decent continental thunderstorm - and these things are much more intensive than most thunderstorms we have in the UK. I have personal experience of this kind of storm while on summer holldays in Switzerland. You get a great deal of rain in a short period. Historical accounts of thunderstorms in Ukraine during the summer of 1943. For instance a severe thunderstorm during the late July 1943 assault by II SS Panzer Korps during the late afternoon om the third day of the battle brought the entire assualt to a halt because the ground turned to deep mud conditions after perhaps half an hour of torrential rain in a severe thunder storm. It has been noted that similar storms took place quite frequently during the Battle of Kursk.
Our Ukranian War takes place at the same time of year/ Severe thunder sorms in Ukraine are likely in this Continental climate zone. This is not a case of Stryker hate. All wheeled vehicles on both sides would suffer similarly. And tracked vehicles almost as much - as they diid in the summer of 1943

I think there is an excellent case for including French, Germans, Polish, British, Baltic States, Netherlands, Belgians and Canadians on the NATO side. Also Belorussia for the Russians. More than happy to buy DLCs for all of the above. For the French contingent the Foreign Legion will have to be present for obvious reasons!
Likely however the Marines will be arriving before any of the above. Semper Fi!

I would be happy to purchase additional modules including more armies if Battlefront is willing to make the. Particularly Post Saddam Iraqi, Turkish, Jordanian. Israeli, Saudi, Iranian.
Given real world events in the region there are plenty of historical gaming and near future hypothetical conflicts/ Plus this tank is too cool to leave out of any modern Middle East game

So, yesterday I covered Key Terrain. Let's look at Cover & Concealment, Observation & Fields of Fire, as well as Obstacles.

Cover and concealment in this map is not due to elevation features but buildings and woods, which are evident and therefore not marked for OCOKA purposes. Naturally, I will be using them as best as I can, as will my opponent. One exception is the ridge line that is just ahead of deployment zone. In terms of Observation, my deploy area is the only place where my enemy cannot see anything I do.

    RU006
This ridge provides full cover from the German lines and gives me protected lines of communication between West and East halves of the map. As you will soon see, it will prove invaluable.

After some bogging incidents crossing fields in other battles I'm leery of going at full speed in vehicles over plowed fields, and can't afford to take a slow crossing, which makes them Obstacles to my advance. The field also provides an excellent field of fire for the Germans to stop any advance. I named it Field of Death, because to me it's pretty evident that crossing it is suicidal. This of course limited my options in terms of Avenues of Approach.

LUCASWILLEN05 got a reaction from FueGo357 in What do you think the first module of Black Sea would be?
My view is that Black Sea should get
1 Pro Russian and Ukrainian miiltias
    2 Russian Spetznaz
3 Eastern European NATO. Definitely Poland and Baltic States. These are very likely to be dragged into this conflict. Maybe Romania could also be dragged into the war (a Russian escalation into Moldova etc)
4 Western European NATO UK, German and (because we haven't had them elsewhere) France. The LeClerc would be pretty col to play.
5 US Marines, obviously. Semper Fi

LUCASWILLEN05 reacted to womble in Not on Steam. any particular reason?
BFC have said: "We looked at Steam, and it wasn't for us." They have not been specific about what elements of selling on Steam did not suit them, but given it's their business, and they're interested in it succeeding, I think you have to respect their assessment, since they're the ones that have the information about what they would need to do to get "all Steamed up" and have a view on how that would affect a) their bottom line and their work environment.

Any speculation from people who aren't Steve or Charles is frankly not worth the photons that carry the information from screen to eye, since nobody but them knows enough to make any kind of realistic assessment on the matter.

LUCASWILLEN05 got a reaction from sburke in Poll: Would you prefer the original 2008 Syrian setting or something up to date for CMSF II
I don't want a rehashed Syria conflict either but the ME theater is a fascinating venue for hybrid warfare scearios which was  the strength of CMSFIran could be one of the main enemies in  future ME conflict. Taking current events we could be looking at a complex multi sided conflict

Blue US, NATO, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Yemeni Government forces and Israel
Red Iran, Syria. Hezbollah, Hamas, Yemeni Houthi insurgents
Black Islamic State (hostile to both Blue and Red

Iran at the very least will have drone technology.and the updated air defense should help.

I also add my vote to several others on here that I sure would like to see it as a module rather than a stand alone.  That way I can still play on maps I already made, plus, hopefully it would add a bit of content to the Normandy/ Market Garden scenarios.  (Plus, I hate to keep installing the same program over and over, simply wastes space on the hard drive.)  They were talking about a NEW CMSF instead of a 3.0 upgrade.  Probably easier, but that city map I spent 200 or so hours on.... all wasted.  I loved how CMBB went from, well Barbarossa to Berlin.  I could build scenarios to mix and match whatever equipment I wanted.  (I also love the early war stuff.)

Once again, MODULE PLEASE, even if it's still $55.  (I know that throws a wrench into their "CMBN Master Installer" theory though.)

LUCASWILLEN05 got a reaction from Haggard Sketchy in Modern-day Korea
The ranges would be quite close (urban. mountain and forested terrain) which would lessen the disadvantages of Chinese/North Korean tanks. The paddy fields would also be a problem in a summer campaign. In the more likely winter war the paddies would freeze but US/SK air power would be more limited.

If defending the best NK move would be to fall back into the urban and mountainous/forested terrain making Coalition dforces fight there on MNoth Koean terms. The North would still lose the conventional war but would still have to fight gainst fanatical insurgents based on NK Special Forces remnans and People's Militia
