  1. I think that's going to be it, although I never imagined it would have that large of a population. I was seriously thinking 1 to 5 thousand. Then again, if I look at some of the larger buildings and think "apartments" rather than "businesse" or "warehouses" I can see where it could be more dense than it looks. I also thought it was smaller due to the fact it had such a small Mosque - as far as I can tell there's only one Mosque and it's only about 20 by 25 meters. Then again, I'm just looking for the tell-tale domes, so maybe there's another domeless one and I'm just not seeing it. Anyway, I think you've found it; thanks a million.
  2. actually it is east of the highway, my bad. It's too small for this map. Probably a population of 1 to 5 thousand. And that's a whild guess.
  3. I guess this needs to in the mod section. whoops, never mind. I moved it there. Sorry, my bad.
  4. I have a problem – I’m working on an extremely detailed 1696x2464 map of a Syrian town and the northern approach to that town. When I finish I’m going to post it at the repository. Here’s the problem – I’ve spent so much time looking at the google earth image of this town and its surrounding areas that I probably know about as much about it as someone who lives there. Except for one thing - I haven’t the foggiest clue as to what the town is called. The coordinates are 33.52.40x36.41.14, 2 kilometers west of the main highway to Damascus (called Hwy M1 on the Google Earth). I would be forever in debt to anyone who came up with the name for this town so I can quit calling it Al Hemphill (Hemphill being my hometown). Btw, the map I’m working on is very very detailed. Several months worth of work. Yes, I’m patting my own back here, but there’s also a downside. Just by looking at it I get the feeling that this is an old town - very crowded. I’m beginning to fear I may have created a map that will get a lot of oos and ahs, but probably won’t play as well as one that’s either based on a more modern town or one that's maybe a little less insanely realistic. ps. title is supposed to be map question, but I can't edit that. Damn, I'm on a roll today. something like three boneheaded mistakes in only three posts.

  6. The main thing I'm concerned about is that if they decide to press on that they 'start over' with what they have. In other words we have a CMSF that allows you to play, say, US vs China, but now you have an unlinked game so Syria, Brits and the Marines are out. Kind of like the way the first Combat Mission games were separate and not linked. ps. Not to mention the fact that this map I just spent the better part of a year working on will be obsolete! pps. That makes me wonder if the WWII game will be 'linked' with CMSF. Wouldn't that be a hoot to pitch Panzers against Abrams? Kind of one-sided, but interresting to watch.
  7. It seems to me the Syrian War will be winding down with the next addition; I mean, there's just not that much more you can add to the ongoing storyline. However, I really like this game, and I would so like to see the system move to other modern conflicts. Who wouldn't want to see the IDF, the Iranian Army, Iraq (pre and post invasion), Russia, China, etc, etc?
  8. My feelings to the tee. I love the module; and most of the scenarios in the campaign are great and would make excellent stand-alone scenarios, but when taken as a whole the campaign is just too difficult.
  9. I love the story line and by themselves the scenarios would be great, but damn the Marine Campaign is hard. I firmly beleive the most annoying poster in any gaming forum is the whinner who says "I'm not good at this so I don't like it" and I don't want to be that guy, but, seriously, the last three scenarios have been so difficult I sometimes feel like I'm playing a fancy version of Panzer General from the 90s - "Whoops, I lost a tank. Time to restart at my last save or I'll never win another battle" and "nevermind tactics; watch that clock." Right now I think every vehicle I have has damaged wheels from having to haul ass in rough terrain due to enemy fire (although not that many have been lost because I save a lot ); my squads are starting to look like teams so I've started save/restarting for them as well; and I might as well send my artillerists forward with rifles since they've forgotten what a shell even looks like. I love the game and I even like everything about the campaign except for the level of difficulty. There wouldn't happen to be a "Baby Version" somewhere, would there?
  10. Not that I'm joining the ranks of those complaining about no red forces in the upcoming module (although I do wish they had thrown in a BTR-80 or something) but since they already have onboard British mortars, why not add an onboard 82mm mortar team to the red side? Offboard 82s work well for 99% of the scenarios, but an onboard mortar could add a little spice to the occasional mod scenario. Probably too late to add anything not mentioned, though; I just thought I'd throw the bone out there and see what everyone else thought.
  11. thanks. That's what I needed to know.
  12. I have a small probelm I ordered a new computer from dell this week. It should be in next week. Well, I ordered shock force and the Marine addition with the download and the hard copy hoping I could download it onto my old computer so I could look it this weekend (my old computer will probably run it - just barely), and then install it on my new computer when the hard copy gets here. However, it just dawned on me, if I use my licence number to install it on my old computer, will I still be able to install it on the new computer when it gets here?
