  1. I too will match that offer for a Windows Vista 64-bit PC with CMSF and Marines module too. My Swine Flu is getting quite bad now though, so I might be coughing a lot more until I lose £15 from my bank account.
  2. May I recommend this? I also have a monkey spotter for you. The red is just a huge forcefield..of sorts.
  3. What's it whispering? Is it telling you to hunt for a copy of CMBF? The voice in my head told me to do that too, but I am authorised to kill for it.
  4. Can we just get an auto-refresh monkey? I want sleep, but I also want a monkey. Discuss.
  5. What a terrible pun. I am in no mood! Monkey want Brits.
  6. Yeah. Or the white ISAF? Just a little literacy;)
  7. Well it was Iraq, not Afghanistan. But here we are: http://www.defensetech.org/archives/002959.html
  8. If this is a fictitious war in 2008 (not the future), then surely the Brits could be given FRES and the A-400M early for some great big airborne operations? Stronger than the CVR (T) family by far. Red players would want a new tank though, wouldn't they? Or a few squadrons of SU-25s? Or some great FAC/JTAC training which enables more units to call in air and artillery support. Or we could keep it realistic?
  9. Yes please:) *Cough* Was hoping I'd be at least downloading it now.
  10. But can they go for weeks on end patrolling the desert and being resupplied by air in Afghanistan? I'll find the article when I get back from footy.
  11. Would you really trust the MoD... with anything?
  12. I think some of you need to get an idea of just how small the Scimitar actually is and why it may not be practical to overload the thing with armour;) And you moan about its recce abilities? I'd be happy it can even get anywhere:eek::
  13. Well, the Jackal isn't a "between wars" design, it was procured specifically for conflicts such as Afghanistan. Many of the vehicles in this game which are open or exposed are designed to be recce vehicles (light, fast, mobile) or Fire Support Group vehicles. As such it's unlikely they'll get into a close-in fighting scenario. As has been said somewhere on here before, the ranges involved in the scenario in the demo don't seem to take advantage of the MG vs rifles range. Other vehicles like the Spartan and FV432 which are designed to transport specialist teams and sections of infantry shouldn't really have their top cover exposed when moving into a suspected enemy area, simply because it's an invitation to get one more KIA on your list. The MGs on those types of vehicles are usually just for self-defence.
  14. Got to agree. The snipers (L115A3 and L96A1) are both utterly useless. My snipers were shooting at a recoilless rifle team 200m away. They weren't cowering or hiding, just lying about. It took 13 shots before one round connected.
  15. I believe I've seen the reason stated as there being nothing new to really add to the Syrian faction, apart from utility vehicles or Shilkas, which would be of no use.
  16. The Brits are relatively simple when you get used to them (on that scenario anyway). Use sniper teams to scout AT and MG positions, use artillery to soften up likely or known positions. Once that's done you should have Scimitars. Advance them; but keep your recce teams in front of them. To attack the police compound I usually send in 2x 155mm onto the compound and adjacent compound. The dust cloud kicked up by the arty provides perfect concealment for your soft APCs to move up and dismount infantry. From there it's usually just a case of wiping out sporadic resistance, which I usually use 51mms for infantry in trenches. Challenger 2s are good but I try not to rely on them as they aren't going to be in the scenario in the full module (from what I've read). I just completed that scenario as blue with 8 KIA, 13 WIA, 1 MIA, 1 car (M-WMIK) and 1 armoured vehicle (Spartan hit by an ATGM). Did all that, total victory and 20 mins to spare. Just get to know your forces and decide how you're going to split them up and use them.
  17. After the Brit module is out?
  18. I've seen crewed weapons 'abandoned' too. Not sure what it means as it was a DshK that only stopped firing when a 51mm landed on top of the whole team and killed them all. Got to say, that 51mm - <3
  19. Why would they? In British Army doctrine an APC is just that. It is designed to transport troops to the fight relatively safely and then leave the fighting to the infantry and support units, such as Warrior IFVs, Jackal/WMIK FSGs and mortar support. This is why many British APCs don't have firing ports, as the thought of a round coming in to an APC kind of negates the whole purpose of keeping the troops inside as safe as they can be (for the level of protection afforded).
  20. Very nice video, I like the way they've renamed the game too;) Just one thing to all you beta testers: (I know it's not the right thread:()
  21. I'm not. I have 3 days off work starting today and I was kind of hoping it would be out by now so I could have a good play with all the units and get to know them. Next Monday anyone? Right, I've had it, I'm off.
  22. Do you not think by 'farmers' he means Taleban? You know, the kind of people who pick up an AK at night and a hoe in the daytime?
  23. That's as may be but my car can drive over speed bumps and be pretty aggressive in finding a parking space too. I could probably throw some kind of potato from it when moving too. Leopard 1 < Clio
  24. The old L85A1 used in Kuwait had many problems I believe. The new L85A2 is the second version and has fixed many problems of the original A1. By all accounts from a mate serving with 4th Bn The Rifles in Afghanistan at the moment, the weapon's very nice. Though, and I quote 'Firing at farmers with a .50 is ****ing awesome!'
