  1. I have been playing SC games for years and I don't think I will ever be able to figure out the damn supply. I have been fighting the war in China for over a year and I have not advanced ONE tile. I bomb the cities with the aircraft carriers and after each round of attacks the carrier planes take big hits and that cost a fortune to keep replacing. And each attack with a ground unit I always lose one or two per unit that has to be replaced each time. and withthis version I can't even use artillery to wear them down the enemy a little. I am playing the long campaign, no advantage to either AI or me. All this time I thought I was getting supply from the HQ's and the nearest cities. Now having read the last post you tell me that the only city that counts is Foochow. China has drained all of my MPP's and I never have any left over to play around with research or diplomacy. I can't buy new units to prepare for the big war that is coming with USA. This is why I would never play a human opponent because would always be at a big disavantage. I have read the manuals but I can't figure out how to hurt the opponents supply chain or even if one exists. Very frustrating.
  2. I have the demo because I got to work early and checked the forum.
  3. The boss returns in just two days. I beg you; cut to scene--deplorable looking individual down on his hands and knees-; let me download the game now and it will be our secret...
  4. Hi Snowstorm, The timing is perfect. The agency's managers are on a hiatus this week and well........ let the games begin!
  5. I thought that those of us who pre-ordered would get an email stating we could download it a little earlier than the general public who did not pre-order. Is that still the case?
  6. Just wondering how can mods be made for this game when it hasn't even been released yet?
  7. Well, I put the two files from 1940 Storm Rising into SC2 WAW campaign folder and put the media files in the Media folder. But the campaign does not show up on the NEW GAME screen. Any thoughts on why?
  8. Okay, I think I get it. But 1940 Red Storm MOD works with SC2 WAW and the two Media files, eventhough they are listed under SC2 PDE they work with SC2 WAW. Is that right?
  9. Thanks Cantona66. I must be exceptionally dense. I went to the location that you described but I cann not find any reference to Media 1 and Media 2. I did run across the Advanced Third Riech MOD that I haven't been able to find. But I have all of the SC games except the PDE one. I assumed that anything in this category was designed only for PDE. Will the MODs listed under PDE work with the other SC games? ANd if so how does one know which game you need to run to usethe ADVANCED THIRD REICH mod?
  10. I have so much trouble with MODs that I usually just have to skip them. Most of the time I can't even find them to download. Can you link me to the Media 1 and 2 files and tell me what they are for?
  11. Thank you for the quick reply. I'm looking forward to playing your MOD. I wish I had the time/skills to make a MOD because I would definately adjust some areas of the this game.
  12. PZGNDR-- Hi, Just wondering where I might find the Advanced Third Reich mod when it is finished and if it will work playing against the AI? I have never tried playing against other people because there are so many professional game players that have already developed standard openning moves that are probably unbeatable. I would just be thrashing around using what I think are conventional military tactical moves while my opponent would be following a script that never loses. A lot of this, I imagine, would be behind-the-scenes stuff like what technologies to pour MPP's into and tried-and-true lineup of units that can't be beat. So I hope your mod will also have an AI feature.
  13. To DesetDave from a fellow senior, if i have interpreted your emails correctly, and that's not likely. I would like to drastically tone-down air attack results. I am playing WAW long campaign as the Allies. I had, what I thought, was a strong line of tanks, inf, fighters and AA around Smolensk in August 1941. Next thing I know I am running for my life with what is left after just one turn of air attacks. Come on. Totally unrealistic to completely wipe out several units with just planes. Anyway that plea is falling on deaf-ears. I read your post about editing the planes down so they have a more realistic role in the game. Can you describe to me how to do that or if this isn't the right place to ask could you email me?
  14. Hubert, First of all thank you for taking the time to answer. You don't find busy programmers doing that these days. I am glad that it is being addressed. It just doesn't seem realistic that air superiority can single-handedly win the war. Not to mention decimate entire tank divisions with a single attack. I know that US fighters roamed the skys practically unassailable in the late stages of the war but I don't think they repeatedly destroyed full tank divisions in a single attack.
  15. I was wondering if tactical aircraft would be toned-down a tad in Global Conflict? I am playing SC-WAW. I am the allies and the AI is the Germans. Difficulty is even. The German tactical aircraft are winning this war single handed. I'm in the summer of 1946 I have virtually nothing left. Each one of his airstrikes takes out or almost takes out one unit after another each turn. My level 3 tanks at strength 10 are systematically reduce to a strength 3 turn after turn. THis started almost from the beginning. I am broke. All I can due is spend every MMP on reinforcements. I am sure a professional game player will speak up and say I am stupid and it never happens to them. But what I am saying is it just doesnt seem realistic that a plane-group can destroy a tank-group time after time. And my armys are completely vaporized. That is all happening in Russia. I anticipated some of this and purchased 5 USA fighter groups and ran them up to a level 5 but they can't stop them either. I am about to be pushed off the continent of Europe for the second time during this war. I would like Hubert to think about this or maybe have some kind of realism option that could be invoked to prevent this unrealitic airstrike outcome.
  16. Thanks to those who replied. I edited the sc2.ini file and I'm back in business. It's odd because the resolution I picked was 1280x800 and I just checked and the resolution I use for Pacific THeater is 1680x1050 and it works. Whatever... now I just marktime until Global Conflict is published.
  17. I haven't fired-up this game in many months. It asked for a screen size and the one I arbitrarily chose, 1280x800, prevents the game from launching. it says out of range, and stays there. I can't get back to the settings screen, or any other game screen to make a different choice. The only thing I can do is go to task manager to end the application. But if i re-launch the game it returns to the "out of range" error box. Any suggestions?
  18. Arado, thank you. I didn't know(remember) that you had to be on a rail tile to operate. So all this time it has been pure chance if I had a unit on a rail tile. And the info about ports is very ehlpful.
  19. That sounds promising. I'm going to try it now. I do have a question for you. I feel like I might be missing an important tactical gambit. Does bombarding a port and reducing the supply number do anything for you except to maybe cut supply(which I will never understand in a million years but that is another story)? For instance can it prevent the port from being used by the enemy to reinforce? And if I may bother you with one more, I'm not a big fan of the operate function but I have started using it. Seems unfair. But anyway, it seems so hit and miss that you cannot count on it to be available. I could have two identical units side by side, supply number is high, no opposing forces nearby and one unit will have the operate command available and the one next to it won"t. Do you know why this is?
  20. I'm playing a solo game of Operation Z and I was wondering what "mirror Z" means. Is it a mod that improves the A.I. or just slang for Operation Z?
  21. Remove supply as it is now. You might as well just lower the efficiency of all the units and just get supply out of the picture because they are NEVER in full supply. And HQ's can be right next to the units and they are still worthless. The supply model really ruins the game for me. Some things that could be done about it: 1. Drastically reduce supply factor in the combat equasion. 2. Make it an option you can turn off. 3. When you click on a unit display what it'ssupply will be if it is moved to that square. It is impossible to try and calculate what supply will be for ALL of you units. I can't even do it for one unit with any degree of certainty. Okay, now I will bend over and get ready to take it from the fans. I'm 61 and have a thick skin. All I'm saying is there has GOT to be a better method if you insist on having supply in a game.
  22. One feature from the late but great game Panzer General was the ability to click a botton and on a large scale map toggle between Land units and Air units. Just think about the advantages of a feature like this in SC. Especially if you could toggle between Land, Air and Sea units. Right now when I play Pacific Theater I have to constantly make the rounds to every little Island to remember what is there. If an antiquated game like PG could do this you'd think a modern game would be able to also.
  23. Rambo --I'd like to buy several more HQ's but it takes every MPP that I get each turn just to stay even. THe supply in Chinna is so low that I can not kill any enemy unit. I do make a little progress but it is the middle of 1943 and I haven't even thought about occupying islands or heading into Burma. I did manage to paradrop a unit into Kunming. As I understand it that should cut us supply to China, I hope. What seems to me to be a big waste of time is that as Japan I have to sit there for two whole years(1939-1941) with my thumb up my nose doing nothing. I can't invade and transporting single units to various islands is counter-productive because I don't have HQ's to back them up and when December 1941 finally rolls around I won't have enough troops to keep China off my back or to invade the Philipines. Am I missing something?
