  1. sorry, I forgot to ans the last question. i am maxedout on fighters. Unfortunately I have serious problems in France and have two fighter groups stationed there. I also have two fighter groups stationed in North Africa where I am advancing, slowly. All I have there is an Itie HQ I had to buy. I have lost two HQ's in Russia so I am, as uusual, fighting a supply war in the Russian front. I am not saying that air power shouldn't be in the game. I just think it is the all-powerful segment of the game. Yeah Yeah...And I know supply should be in the game but I think that it's too sensive to it's environment and has too great of an impact on units that receive supply from it. Also- that a unit, in a one month turn, should be able to move at least one tile in any direction. Regardless of supply. But I have one unit, my best one, strength 15 that is stuck south of Kumming, and can not move north eventhough it has a supply of 6. Crazy.
  2. Sirs, I think you are right. that must be a record number of responses. I should be able to make some adjustments. Thanks! I am running the stock 1939 campaign. No advantage to either side. i just keep all of the settings as is. No experience for the AI and I run as a beginner. I understand that the air power unit represents an unknown number of planes doing an unknown number of attacks wiping out 40,000 men(if it is only a corp). Just seems a stretch. matter of opinion and playability I guess. I would make it so that it could not bomb a unit below a strenght of 4. That it would then require men and/or armor to annihilate the unit completely. Brianlala-- are you a past client of ours, so to speak?
  3. I hope this is my last post on this subject. I'm sure you do too. Stock - 1939 War Campaign. Now it is summer 1943. I just had a veteran tank group(strength 10) wiped off the map by two air strikes. Gone. I don't have the dispostion to take this. I'm ready to delete this game. . I have never used the editor but I don't know what else to do. Can anyone tell me, step, by step, how to lower the attack value of planes to ZERO? I just can't accept that they can wipe out hundreds of tanks. I would appreciate it if you can tell me how to edit air power out of the game. and while we are at it, how can I lower the price of HQ's since this is a supply game and not a war game. Maybe I can place enough HQ's around the board so that I can do some war tactics.
  4. vonRocko-- You are right. But there is supply and then again there is supply. My point that i have made elsewhere is that supply is a little too sensive and perhaps could be toned down somewhat so it is not THE dominate factor in the game. Use a larger value for maximum supply and then you could still have distance affect the amount of supply you are recieving but not to such a drastic degree.
  5. Thank you. I keep getting messages that the route is covered by fighters, but the closest fighter I have is in the German sity south of Denmark(can't remember the name. But I also get conflicting messages that UK planes are interdicting the convoy line. SO that was just one more aspect of the damn supply game that I gave up on and ignored. I wish I knew how to write programs and I would make the best war game you ever saw. I sure as heck would make it a war game and not a supply game.
  6. How are the "Bomber Range Convoy Map Positions" displayed on the map so that you know where to put put a plane group?
  7. I can't start the download either. Is it me or is there a problem. Most likely me. And id Nupremal's MOD available too?
  8. Bill101, Thanks for the additional tips and your patience. I'll see if I can do anything with the scripts.
  9. First of all, I broke one of my main rules when writing emails or posts...I did it while I was upset. I know that my resent posts sound too much like whining and I appologize. The game is fun and addictive but a couple of things detract(for me) from the main purpose of games, escape and enjoyment. The supply values are necessary but too sensitive. Since they have such a huge impact on movement and combat I think they should all be at 10. Then let some of the factors reduce supply but at a reasonable rate. Unless you are completely cuttoff then I don't think it should ever drop below 5. Because after investing so much time and effort into a game, my stragegy will be completely beaten by only one thing, supply. the tactics were sound but I can't attack or retreat. SInce a game turn is a month then you should at least be able to move a pretty good distance. Airpower- I would drastically reduce effects of air attacks by tactical bombers. I woul never let an air attack reduce the strenght of a unit below 5. Not realistic given the size of the unts in the game. One plane group can annilate a 40,000 man corp. Not likely. I would severly limit the number of tactical units for any country. On the other hand I would give the major countries lots of Strategic bombers so that you could run a bombing campaign that both Germany, England and the USA. But I would limit to 10 % maximum the amount of damage a raid could do and it would either be to supply or the occupants of a tile. but 10 % at the most combined. This way you could run an extended bombing campaign but have realitic results. I would also have lots of fighter units to protect them but again tone things down. But as it is now you can't afford enough strategic bombers to replicate this aspect of the war. I think if you didn't sustain such high losses with all the units then it would simulate the real results more accuratel. One attack never did wipe out an entire armored division or an entire army. Slow things down a little. Maybe reduce the turn length to one or two weeks intead of a month. I played one MOD that really immersed me into the Russian front war during the winter months because the turns were 7 days. I really felt their pain. Just some thoughts of an old game player.
  10. Thanks for all of the replies but I am quitting. It is July 1943. Middle of the summer in Russia. I have a thick line of units from Stalingrad south to Sevastopol. (nether city have I managed to take). But that's not the point. Using the S key, out of all the tiles I have units on only two have a supply of seven. All of the rest are 6 or lower, mostly 3's and 4's. Supply is just too sensitive and has too much of an effect. I'ts summer and this is the best I get. In the winter time I have no supply at all. Whats the point in playing if you can't do anything. In China I'm still sitting where I started in 1939. Most units won't move a single tile. And if a unit happens to make progress it is destroyed by a single aircraft attack. 40,000 sholdiers wiped out. Sure. Supply and air units are way out of whack. It is suppose to be fun but this in just frustrating and I can get that from real life. Thanks again for your help.
  11. I gotta tell ya, I would give anything if there was a way to turn off supply. I was just trying to get a couplemore turns in before I head home and I cannot not use ANY of my units. This supply thing is driving me crazy. I have 12 units jammed into the area arounnd that depression. The highest supply factor is 5 and that is where the HQ is sitting. The ports are at 1 and 2. the rest of the tiles are at 3 and 4. And it won't change and I can't do ANYTHING but sit there and get pounded. Is there away I can override supply so that it isn't the most important aspect of the whole game? Tactics and strategy...who has time for that when all you deal with is supply. The hits that the supply value take are too drastic. It should take a lot to drop the value below 10.
  12. Yes, the Allies hold Malta. And yes I do get a pop-up about Malta affecting supply. But until today I did not know how or to what degree not holding Malta could affect me. I have played dozens of SC2WAW and PT campaigns but didn't know this. I only tried to take Malta once and was creamed so I never tried again. Can't get any units on the island to attack it and the Itailan air force isn't much help. I only have one Italian HQ , which I had to buy, and it is in North Africa so my supply for the Itie air units that can reach Malta is not very good. I can't spare Germain units because it is June 1943 and the Allied AI just woke up. Operation Overload has started a year early and the pesky Russian just went on the offensive near Odessa. I want to thank you again for your patience because I really would like to comprehend the nuances of supply so that I could perhaps plan an attack to reduce the enemy supply but right now I can't do that.
  13. Hihubert, Thanks for trying to expalin this. So an oil well is 5 times the stated strenght in the little box on the oil well iconon the map. why not just make it 50 in the box instead of 5 times 10, for example? But look I willjust continue to play on a simplified level because I get screwed all the time on supply. I am in North Africa at moment and in one turn, after just letting the units sit and do nothing and no combat the units that were getting a 6 or 7 supply level dropped to 3 or 4 at the beginning of the next turn and i did not move any unit nor was I attacked. So I went from doing okay to not being able to move or reienforce. So I will just have to put up with it. By the way, I was going to start a new thread but I will just say it here. THANK YOU for producing such a stable game. Not once has any SC2 product crashed-to-desktop. That is a very rare bird. I can say that every other game I have purchased from other companies has crashed during the middle of a game. Very frustrating and shows a lack of care for the customer and more concern over profits and pushing out a product before it is ready. Thanks again.
  14. Bill101, You are correct about subs..now. I'm into the summer of 1943 and I still have several that aren't visitng Davy Jones. It is simulating the battle of the Atlantic far better than previous incarnations. Thanks, I am beginning to get a better picture of how to use strategic bombers. I never bought any before because of their high price and high battle damage rate that is inficted upon them. I am rereading pages 17 and 18 of the manual and I gotta tell you I can't decipher what they are trying to tell us. I use to buy a lot of war games but I could NEVER figure out the relationship between production/supply/resources and how they are referred to in the various manuals. I was wondering if you can translate those two pages for me. If you busy or something I understand. I can play this game without that knowledge but it is one of the reasons I would not play a human because I would always be at a disadvantage.
  15. Bill101, Thank you. Fromeach reply I glean a morsel of information. So if you bomb a port(either Source or destination??) it keeps the enemy country from receiving the MPP's it would otherwise get. is that correct? Does it work for a both tactical and Strategic bombers? And does it have to be reduced to 0 before the convoy MPP's do not reach the port? Wouldn't this make planes more effective or cost-effective thatn subs. Subs have a short shelf life.
  16. Bill101... I didn't undertand anything about your last post. I play this game but I cannot grasp the supply or movement or any of that stuff. If I capture a mine does it add MPP's to my total so that I can buy more stuff?
  17. also I don't have a clue as to how to attach a screenshot of the Benghazi mutiny.
  18. Hi Hubert, First of all I want to say I think this is a great simulation. I am addicted to it. So I am not complaining about this stuff, just pointing it out. I 95% positive(nothing is certain) that my carriers were not in any rain storm nor was the target tile. I was at work so no alcohol was involved. It involved two different carriers, different locations but the same turn. Unfortunately I rack up a lot of turns and have to delete them so I don't have a save at this point. But I will send one if it happens again. It happened many times to me in SC2 PT but I just accepted it. The lazy army unit is undoubtly my fault. I am sure it revolves around supply which I just cannot figure out. The "S key" helps a lot but I screw myself time and again(not a pretty picture) when I am attacking a city and move one adjacent unit out after attacking with the hope of moving another one in to continue the attack or at least occupy the tile and the computer won't let me move another close by unit to that tile. Then the enemy always plops a unit in and I have to start over with the attack. But it just seems strange that in the desert where every tile appears the same that a unit cant have a default movement of one tile each turn(month). And the mines and oil wells are 2x or 3x the value shown on the screen? Is that right?
  19. I have an army unit in the tile touching Benghazi to the Southeast. Supply is 4 and it has been stuck there for a year. I moved an HQ next to it, supply rose to 5 and it still cannot move. I really hate the supply model in this series. It just seems that no matter how starving an army is that in a year it could move a few miles. Next- The Akagi values 11-8, supply 9, Readiness & Morale 80, action points 8, 3 tiles from Singapore and it won't launch an attack when I place the cursor there. I had to move it to adjacent square. Zuikaku values 11-9, supply 7, Readiness & Morale 88,, Action points 8, 2 tiles from Guam and the 20th Bomb Group(USA) would not attack the bomb group. I moved the carrier adjacent to the Guam and it still wouldnot give me the red attack circle over the target. Does anyone know why? It happens to me in SC2 PT also. Not all the time but enought to be a pain in the ***. last question- Do mines and oil wells do anything for you except for for a few points. I read in one of the posts something about 2x and 3x something but they didn't give specifics. Oh one more. I am attack Istanbul from Greece. I shell the port with BB's but I take a lot of hits yself. Does it do any good at all to be doing this? Does it harm Turkey units by limiting their supply when they obviously have a path back to other friendly cities to the east. Thanks I have been wondering about this stuff for a long time.
  20. Quick question. I am the Axis playing long campaign. It is now late October 1941. I have have taken Hanoi and have several amphibious assault teams heading out on the high seas towards Burma,Bankok, Batavia. Now, I don't want to blow my sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. I will be heading out to hawaii this turn cause I don't know how long it will take to get there from home islands. I remember reading a post several weeks ago and someone asked about Pearl harbor and how Hubert was going to handle it and he said it would be a surprise. Is there a script that kicks off the surprise attack or do I simple put my task force Northwest of HAwaii and declare war on Dec 7th?
  21. I tried sitting the Graf Spee down at CapeTown and it worked for a few turns, then the enemy changed the convoy route. Only slightly but it did react. So I move my ship to be back on the route. A short time later it the Ai sent two surface ships after me and I had to run for it. And the DD are after my subs and chasing them all around England at the moment. The good part is I have a chance to survive the attacks and in the other versions I was fishbait right away. So far it has been a lot of fun.
  22. Thanks, that will be my next move. I did fall for that Fort De France script. Got greedy for the gold. I hope that doesn't have a hidden pitfall.
  23. Thanks to both for the tips. I did not know that Burma(Br) meant it belonged to the British. And I thought I was twiddling my thumbs while I was suppose to be pilaging and plundering. So I will invest my MPP's as as Rannug suggested and think about a PBEM game. By the way I just concentrated on Foochow and took it. Now I will just hold the line in China and wait for the balloon to go up with the USA. I also like the way the naval war in the Atlantic has been redesigned. It use to be I was affraid to take my ships and subs out of port because they would be used as target practice by the British. I have had several encounters and survived all of them. Even besting the enemy most of the time. Now if I can just survive urber-planes I will start having fun.
  24. Thank you Bill101 and Rannug. Good, informative posts. I am trying the tactical tips now. I guess I just am worried about not moving fast enough. Because I know from playing the WAW and PT how overwhelming the allied airpower will become. So I think I have to move FAST and take territory because the air units are,IMO, WAY too powerfull. They can decimate armies and armor groups in just one turn. So I spend all of my mPP's on air units , anyway, nevermind that has been hashed over a million times. ANother thing I have trouble with is what am I suppose to be doing from 1939 to end of 1941? Do I occupy the islands? But if I do that I have nothing to attack the Philippines with when the time comes. Or am I suppose to go for Burma or Thailand while waiting for Pearl harbor? Any suggestions would be helpful. And one more thing. I would like to try a PBEM but I just know that I'll tangle with a professional game player who has a boilerplate game-plan that works every time and it would be very frustraiting to go up against that.
  25. Hi Hubert, I didn't intend for you to have to take time from your busy schedule to answer my lamentings. But I sure thank you. I just can't figure out the supply. I do use the "S key" but as soon as you click on a unit the supply value on the tile disappears so I haven't found it very helpful. The supply kills me constantly. And in Russia is there a chart that tells the AXIS player when his units will become totally useless? My armored divisions are suddenly made of glass and an enemy HQ unit is something to run away from. I know you are up against General Winter, as they called it back then, but what are the dates? Any way to shut supply off so I can have some fun?
