  1. And did these plotters back the Nazi regime for at least 10 years prior to the bomb plot?
  2. If the world's first clean coal plant in Germany, which is built by a Swedish company, succeeds, then the coal lobby in the U.S. will rejoice, as the U.S. will be the king of coal for centuries to come.
  3. I tried to make Pad Thai sauce using the following recipe: Sauce * 2 T almond butter * 1/3 cup coconut oil * 1 T nama shoyu or Braggs * 1 teaspoon coriander powder * 1/2 jalapeno pepper, deseeded * 2 teaspoon lemon juice * 1/3 cup filtered water It tasted horrible, and I had to throw it out. How does one make a good Pad Thai sauce? And how edible would it be if I left the seeds in the jalapeno peppers?
  4. I heard that Cruise doesn't have an accent in the movie. And why in the hell didn't the Germans make the Valkyrie movie? Bah!
  5. Aren't the big 3 hourly wages the same as the "transplants"(Honda, Toyota, BMW), which is around 25-28 dollars per hour? So the difference then is the pension and health care benefits, right? If so, then obviously the big three are going to have problems because of the the big 3 having a larger pool of retirees. Some questions: In regards to the pension, does the big three belong to a multi-employer plan like the Teamsters central and western states? Isn't relying on one company dangerous? And recent news just confirmed that 401Ks are a failed experiment. Is the multi-employer plan the only way to go? How is the corporate pension(detroit's) plan different from the multi-employer plan?
  6. JonS, what does "I'm beached as mean?" The whale video in your sig is very interesting. What role does "as" play?
  7. Isn't it impossible to succeed in these LDCs(Less developed countries) that are still stuck in stage 2 of the demographic transition? Why would these improvised people lay down their arms to take up pauperism, which is what all the do-gooders want? If they are going to live hellish lives no matter what, why exactly should they be nice to foreigners? Unhappy people will do unhappy things; this is obvious. There is no solution to Afghanistan, and people need to get over it stat.
  8. In the unedited version there is more to the IV line, but yeah there isn't enough info besides the fact that there was a severed limb.
  9. No, no. I'm asking how the paramedic would've responded in comparison to the combat medic.
  10. Not sure how salon.com was able to get helmet-cam footage of a dying soldier, but here it is: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/10/14/friendlyfirevideo/ The leg was blurred on the family request by the way. On the afternoon of Dec. 4, 2006, Pfc. Albert Nelson was wounded and Pfc. Roger Suarez-Gonzalez was killed during an exchange of fire in "building #2" close to the south bank of the Euphrates River in Ramadi, Anbar province, Iraq. This video, which was recorded from the point of view of the men in building #2 that day, appears to show an American tank firing on them, followed by an attempt to assign official blame for the death of Suarez and the injuries to Nelson to Iraqi insurgents firing mortars. Nelson later died of his wounds Can anyone comment on how it would be different if a civilian paramedic responded to, say, a car crash where there was victim with a severed limb? I'm not suggesting anything about the nature of the care in the video above; I'm just curious as to how it would differ.
  11. So the UK still has pre-paid water meters, but it's illegal to shut off the water? I was under the impression that Water Act 98 made it illegal. Am I wrong?
  12. Do you people in Europe have to use cards to access water at home? I read that it was banned in some countries, yet I continue to hear about talk about meters in the news in regards to droughts.
  13. I just found out that my prepaid card is depleted after I put in my detergent and clothes into the machine. Why can't we have coin operated machines? What other areas of life will force us to use the pre-paid cards? Will I have to insert a card into the toilet whenever I go poo in the near future?
  14. But aren't VWs and Nissans made in Mexico if you buy in the U.S.? The $50,000 plus cars are probably made in their native countries. How many of the parts for Japanese made cars are made in China or Taiwan? Are BMWs and Mercedes the only pure German cars? Do they also have global connections in production? I think the only sensible way to keep car manufacturing in the U.S. is to nationalize the automotive industry. It can be made self-sufficient just like how Nixon mandated the USPS to be self-sufficient. If the big 3 are gone, then doesn't that mean 1 out of 12 or so will lose their jobs in the U.S.?
  15. I think it's safe to say that they won't get their bailouts, so what's in store for the big 3? Anyone here directly affected by this?
  16. Their political beliefs are totally wacked off, but they do sing well, don't they? They certainly are more catchy than any chorus in Church I've seen. Anyone know information on the type of music on these Jihad videos?
  17. I remember a while back reading about Aquinas's worldview on the characteristics and meanings on the demon rod. But my google-fu is weak, so I'm having a hard time here. I've already scoured "A Mind of Its Own" by David Friedman, but the google book section stopped short on the medieval period. Any help?
  18. I figure I'll try something new and make yellow squash/zucchini noodles for my pasta. I also figure that it would make good vegetables for sushi rolls. Anyone have experience with these spiral slicers? Recommendations?
  19. Deindustrialization isn't necessarily a bad thing considering that the Singularity will happen sometime this century. And then finally robotic beings will rule the world. Are you just unhappy that it's been a constant 30 million people employed in manufacturing since 1970?
  20. I don't personally hold the view that positive liberty always leads to a tyrannical form of socialism, but when you force someone to be a better person,(some say a draft would make younger people 'better') it can lead to corruption. And if one holds to the generational view, and by this I mean people going through their political socialization in their 'coming of age' years and holding this view until they die, then you would have generation after generation with viewpoints similar to that of social conservatives: incessantly intervening in the free market while holding ideas for social control. I can't say for certain that an ongoing draft would put out social conservatives like clockwork, but what other ideology would these potential drafted citizens have? Or would the draft have no effect on shaping political socialization? It's not likely that a bunch of libertarians would be the result, nor conservative republicans. The only likely scenario are social conservatives, unless the military suddenly starts to allow unions, increase in civil liberties and privacy, marijuana, abortions, assisted suicide, homosexuality...etc., in which case there would be liberals too.
  21. Wouldn't a draft be a strong example of positive liberty? I don't see how such a thing can be implemented in today's age of deregulation, devolution of governments, and an increase in individual liberties. Hell, not even Russia could sustain a draft, and their citizens are probably more pro gov. than most Americans. It's a good thing that a majority of Americans hold individual liberty at higher levels than some people on this thread who support the draft.
  22. Why does just about everyone here hold the belief in negative liberty? Did you guys suffer from freedom being taken away from you as a child? What about freedom to to realize your super human strengths? If one is at all religious, especially in the Catholicism, then wouldn't positive liberty be the the only option? I'm no political philosopher, but negative liberty to me seems like meaningless proposition.
  23. So you can automate the ships for trade in Europe? I didn't find that in the manual. And how many inf units do you need to fight off about 30 inf and 10 dragoons? Do any of you bother with purchasing ship of the lines? How can you when they cost 8000 each?
  24. After playing the game a few times, I've noticed that it was very annoying to constantly micromanage the ships to sail to Europe. I figured out how to automate the wagon trains, which saved lots of time, but the game still feels like a chore. And just how many inf units does one need to kill off the motherland units? I had about 5 in each city, which is nowhere near enough. Overall, the game isn't worth the money. I could be missing something, perhaps some hidden feature in menu?
