  1. Great! If anyone can make it this Wednesday, please try to, so we can have some good games.
  2. Great to see you on the forums, kim! As for your second question, I haven't a clue. jby, could you have your dedicated server up and running by Wednesday? Just in case Clay is one of those guys who couldn't keep a server up and running if he superglued it to his head and then ran a Olympic triathlon. BTW, kim, since jby is in Austria, if he can get his server up and running, you should have an edge in ping time over us all. P.S. If anyone wants to lower their ping, check this out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833342001 If you can spend $230 US dollars, it's an awesome piece of gear.
  3. Yeah, I'm real disappointed too, and Clay still hasn't responded. Al I have to say is: What's going on, Clay? And: Clay, you'd better have the server back up by Wednesday.
  4. The Recon In Force mission? Try distributing the units you have to the north and south sides of the base. They can still cover the east and west sides. Also, use the Mercurys you get to drop things like sensor jammers (been a while since I aced that mission, so can't recall for sure if deployables are available). Also, use the Mercurys you get to launch orbital strikes. Here's a list of the strikes available: Fire mission: This sends down a barrage of high caliber HE rounds on the point you designate. Will kill Paladins and Apollo pretty regularly, as well as deployable AA turrets, sensor, and sensor jammers. Probably won't kill Thors but there is the chance of damaging them. Trigger with control-F, and click on the point you want to hit. EMP mission: This sends a storm of pods down which blast the area with EMP, temporarily knocking out any vehicles caught in the blast. This gives you a chance to take the base or flag, and execute the enemy units. However, does not affect infantry, so be careful if you're playing multiplayer with some of the vets like me. We could still have a nasty surprise waiting for you. Trigger with control-E, and click on the point you want to hit. Smoke mission. The most useless of the strikes. This send down a group of pods that release thick, blinding smoke at the point you want to hit. Will only hinder real players and not bots. Prohibited in multiplayer because the smoke creates massive lag. Trigger with control-S, and click on the point you want to hit. Resupply mission: This is the most used mission in the game. This will send down a Galaxy dropship to the point you click on. You already know what a Galaxy is, but to recap, it's a resupply and point defense dropship. With the combination of fresh ammo and reduced incoming enemy fire, the Galaxy can turn a battle. Trigger with control-R, and click where you want it to land. Notes: All missions, after used, have a recharge time. The Galaxy's is the lowest, but the other missions have long recharge times. Also, if you don't have line of sight to the target, your strike will take longer and be less accurate.
  5. Sorry I couldn't get the listening server up-real life got in the way. See you all on Sunday, if the server's back up by then. And Clay, since I know you're reading this, it'd better be up by then.
  6. I'll put the listening server up at 7:30 PM EST. I know the ping will be terrible, but it's better than nothing.
  7. Well, Clay said they were hard at work on it back in May. No word since, and I'm still waiting to hear back from him about when DP will be back up.
  8. On Wednesdays, we play starting at 7:30 M EST. Sundays, we always start at 3 PM EST. Welcome, and watch out for me.
  9. Well, I've found out more about video capture, and I've found this great device: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815306013 I now think it's possible to get some footage into Windows Movie Maker, or I could use Fraps (the payware version). Now, all we need is good voice acting. I've got a Logitech USB microphone (not the mike you normally hear me through), so I'm good.
  10. Since the time for editing my last post has expired, I'm making a new post to just say this: I've sent off a quick email to Clay asking him when we can expect Delta Pavonis to be back up.
  11. Well, the server (known as Delta Pavonis) is located in a server facility run by a server company called Server67. If it's been down for 2 days, I think they'll have it back up in time. If it comes to it, I'll try another listening server with 3 bots per side.
  12. That already exists, and I've found it excellent. But Clay hasn't updated the replay server in a long time. I agree. 10 minutes of people getting stuck in trash cans, running into problems, and just plain being unrealistic, never agreed with me. What I always liked was the stuff like the YouTube videos in the links I posted. And yes, mate, that round on Raid would have made an awesome short. The first one's nice. In addition to not having the watermark, the payware version of Fraps can record up to 2560x1600 and all the way up to 100 fps. Not that your hard drive would hold that (better get a 1 terabyte drive!), but it's that capable. If we made it in collaboration with Battlefront, they could do that, and maybe record in HD, depending on their hardware. So here's the plot I have in mind for The Company: A mechanized company takes up position on the Raid map. They get surrounded but do not give in. Eventually, a relief force arrives. P.S. Check out the Machinima channel on YouTube. The creator of the channel's got an excellent 2-part video about how to make a machinima. Pay particular note to the 2nd part when he talks about video capture.
  13. Sorry to drag this up again, but I think we should make a movie about DT, maybe about a fort's siege and relief. It should be called: The Company, and we could film it on Raid. Inspired by this 2-part Halo 2 masterpiece: Really nice, huh? missinginreality, if you want to get a real machinima up and running: http://www.machinimafordummies.com/
  14. Actually, I was counting on my teammate to keep you busy while I made a trench. I wasn't experimenting, I've just had a good track record with trenches and Recon In Force. And if you do recall, the trenches did hold up your Thor when you tried to force your way in. But after you'd taken over the base, I snuck in with an engineer infantry squad and recaptured the Ion tower. That turned the tables, along with some money shots from me:D, and the infantry I left in there did a very good job.
  15. Yeah, I was desperate and found Ecclesius with an infantry squad inside the base's SW corner. I made a beeline for the central ion tower, hoping to divert attention away from kim2 and you. Much to my surprise when I made it, I found out it was an engineer squad, and I had no attention drawn to me while I captured. That's nice to hear. Hope to see you this Wednesday so MiR can meet you.
  16. Glad to hear it. kim2 said he'd try to show up on Wednesday as well. Now all we need is an old hand to introduce you to... jby, could you show up on Wednesday to show MiR (as he's known in-game) what an old hand can do? Anyway, mate, I'll be sending you a sequel to my Who's Who and Some Helpful Definitions soon. Look for it.
  17. Not precisely. You can only get into and ride the 20mm, 76mm, and Ion Paladins. While you get into the framework of other units and buildings, it's not something I recomend if you're going to watch out for enemy vehicles, since the experience can be quite disorienting. Sometimes, I can't get the troops out of non-captureable buildings. I know your pain. The Thor's rear is oddly shaped, and depending on the distance, you can fail to penetrate. I personally have more success with grenading Thors from the side. Also, an AT Grenade is not a silver bullet. It's just a small HEAT round fired from a launcher. Sometimes it can take 6 of them to stop a vehicle, sometimes more than that, and sometimes only 1. P.S. Mate- The stated effective maximum range for AT Grenades is 300 meters, but that's only the maximum range at which the AI squadmates will fire. If the target's staying still, you can get kills at much farther ranges. My all time record for an AT Grenade kill in a normal atmosphere environ is 728 meters on an AA Missile turret (the deployable kind, can reach out to a few kilometers, but is extremely vulnerable) at Twin Peaks. My all time unlimited AT Grenade kill is 991 meters on Clavain's Watch on a Thor's side armor with 1 shot.
  18. Amazing rounds today! Here's who showed up at various times: Me kim2 Jung jby Ithai ThePhantom Redcon The Raid and Recon In Force rounds were the best. In the Raid round, Jung, kim2, and me took the base after a seesaw battle with the best action in weeks. In the Recon In Force round, ThePhantom and I held off jby and Redcon in an amazing battle. These battles were so great that they justify updating the replay server. So Clay, could you please update the replay server so we can see them, and maybe make movies of them? Looking forward to Wednesday, kim2 will try to make it and MiR is certain to show up. Can anyone else make it this Wednesday?
  19. Yes, when you use the jump jets, the bot squadmates use them too, and they do not have any self control when they're jetting. I dropped you off close enough to the tower so that you could creeped on up to it. Here's a tip that will make it much easier: To get out of a building, press the B button, just like you did to get out of my Paladin on Wednesday. To get into a building can be a little tricky, but keep trying and you'll get in, no worries.
  20. You're right. The ion tower can only take about 15 120mm HE rounds before going down, so they were under pressure to kill you before you captured or the tower went down. Yes, your distraction was a key factor, given I was facing an Apollo, a Thor, and the 2 Paladin SAMs. With their attention drawn to you, I was able to knock out the air cover. After I had dismounted you, I moved around the base to the W while looking for targets of opportunity. That was part of the plan. Your getting completely killed in the ion tower was not. Which brings me to one of the most important abilities need to play this game: to be able to adapt quickly when something doesn't go right, and believe me, something will not go right, or else there's no shooting going on. In Wednesday's case, with main air cover brought down by me, we were able to go straight to a 2 prong attack from the NE and NW. Look in the archives for some other posts I've done on adapting quickly. I think I know why the defenders spotted you. If you had fired your jets (the X button), they would have been able to see you with their sensors. If you had simply crept up to the ion tower without firing jets, you would have been almost impossible to spot and we could have had the ion tower. If you want, I can teach you more about infantry, and maybe we could work together with infantry squads in the Wednesday battles.
  21. Here's a little explanation for you. With the current version of DropTeam (1.3.5), 120mm HE rounds are counted as artillery. So while I was trying to distract them, a 120mm Apollo and a 120mm Thor shot up their own ion tower to kill your guys. But I did kill both their Bacchuses (Paladin SAMs). No, that wasn't it, but there is something that can shake infantry, and that's when a 120mm HE or mortar round comes down. If it doesn't kill, it usually results in the infantry stopping and clearing their visors, and this weakness is often taken advantage of by a 120mm Apollo, for instance. If it has HE chambered, it'll fire 1 HE round at the infantry to suppress them. The troops that aren't killed are sitting ducks for the Apollo's 14mm coax gun. Believe me, that's actually a smooth ride. There are plenty of maps where the ride is bumpier. Try Slug Fest in CTF mode sometime and see what I mean. And I'll see you next Wednesday, mate. Speaking of which: jby, could you make it next Wednesday?
  22. Well, when I joined, kim2 and Ithai were on Black Canyon. We managed to put in 6 flags, after Ithai had left and missinginreality hopped on. But the Raid round was quite nice. There, I taught MiR how to mount and dismount infantry in a failed attempt to capture the NW ion tower. Although the game became a seesaw battle in the last 10 minutes, we triumphed anyway. I'm really looking forward to Sunday, and playing with MiR, kim2, and good old jby.
  23. That's great! Now, to introduce missingingreality to one of the masters next Sunday... Thus let it stand that 7 flags is the record for 2 people in co-op.
