  1. I show all system files by default, I run as the admin by default, I turn off as much user protection as I can, I show all hidden files. All on win 7. That virtual store directory, unless it is one that is not the one I listed above, is completely empty. Thanks for trying, but I also found nothing in the resolution and display settings for either win 7 or my graphics card or the software for the monitor.
  2. I do have windows 7, 64 bit, but under the only virtualstore tree I could find, in C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\VirtualStore which is completely empty even checking for hidden files. Should I copy display size.txt in there?
  3. I've got a 1920 x 1080 monitor. When I run CMSF, no matter what I change the setting to and exit out of the game, the display size is a very small box in the center with nearly the same size black borders all around it. Editing the display size.txt file did nothing to fix this except list the new resolution in game. Is there anything else I can do to get a better display?
  4. I'm confused, what's the Coyote supposed to be able to accomplish? It looks even less safe than riding in a typical unarmored humvee, except perhaps from roadside IEDs.
  5. While I'd love to see some top red forces in CMSF, my big concern is, will those of us who prefer modern over WWII get to experience the new QC system before CM:SF2 comes out?
  6. BFC DOES encourage competition, get coding.
  7. While not specifically what you might be looking for, you may want to consider "And I was there" by Edwin Layton who served during the war. It gives a really nice look into the bureaucracy of the military and the setting up of military intelligence, and until the battle turned, shortly after midway, extensive views into the operations and what could have went wrong and what went right. After that it still gives fairly good details I thought on the battles and how they were carried out, though I can't say they are as indepth as perhap what you're looking for. For me where the war seems nearly as distant as the Roman empire, it brings a really human view into the whole operation that I could connect with rarely found in other books I've read. However I would not say it's clinically grog stuff, just written by a guy who served in it about the intelligence angle of the war. If nothing else, a new copy is a mere $16 bucks and I'm sure you could find a used on something like abe for as much as you'd pay in shipping, if not less.
  8. I respect Steam for what it does, but the system resources it consumes on my older computer, plus simply using it in the first place means that it adds anywhere between 5-10 minutes between me running steam, and actively playing my game. It's great for a multiplayer game, but if you want to play single player, it's nothing but punishment for being a horrible horrible pira- consumer. Had I known the hard verison of E:TW when I ordered it would require steam activation, I probably wouldn't have ordered it at all. It's nice to be able to download games whereever and play them, but gamersgate offers the same thing and is FAR less intrusive.
  9. I'd just like to echo this request, and as far as tooltips, I can kinda guess during the game and can look up stuff on wikipedia, but a tooltip telling me the range of the weapon I'm using would be great rather than using a basic test of what color line I get when I target the enemy.
  10. To throw in my cent (It's the economy), I wonder if the problem could be addressed by liberal use of those markers to represent enemy forces, and limiting area fire to require a marker in the range. It wouldn't be a problem for situation 1, in situation 2, C2 should be spreading the information of a suspected target and creating situation one allowing area fire, while situation 3 would be removed as an option. If you wanted to retain the commanders right of using area fire to flush out an ambush where no one else suspects anything, what about a command that'd allow you to flag an area as potentially hiding hostiles. The delay created by using this option would address the need to organize the area fire first and put, if not a end to it, a obstacle that would probably lessen the abuse of area fire to flush or suppress previously unknown targets. Perhaps this flagging would be a new kind of marker that would require some sort of unit evaluation of the situation instead of just now allowing area fire. Of course, whether this would be worthwhile to code up in lieu of other features is another subject entirely. There's a reason I'm down to my last cent.
  11. I'm sure there's a catch in there, but it sounds like a good step nonetheless, thanks for pointing the article out.
  12. My condolences to for all those who suffered loss firestorm, but it does lead to another disaster question. I recently heard that it's the government who will be paying to rebuild the coast line of texas after the hurricane, but is there insurance being paid for living in the path of a storm? Or on floodplains? I'd hate to see tax payer dollars go to those who get their home rebuilt from government money because they chose to live in the path of destruction.
  13. I can't decide whether great advances have been made, or after riding the bandwagon to the top of the '98 hill, you fell out and just grabbed onto a controller flailing out the back and held on for dear profits. Either way, I hope you see another 10.
  14. They don't even bother to take the price tags off those things? Or what is that... piece hanging from the tip?
  15. If a Stryker is lost in Iraq or Afghanistan like this, would it simply be abandoned until the area is safe, or would the US work to pull it soon so that it couldn't be taken and studied, repaired, or the material inside taken by the enemy? I would presume there be something worthy of looting, especially for insurgents or terrorists or asymmetrical troops or whatever would properly describe them. Or, depending if there's enough damage, are they just completely abandoned?
