  1. Playing the game more and more i'm increasingly frustrated by "HQ" deciding what units are made available to me, after all i'm in charge! Can we please have an unlocked mode of play made available for campaigns, where we decide what units to requisition for an upcoming battle, from the entire arsenal for that particular nation at that particular time and only restricted by the points available? I am aware that the upcoming "addon" is going to address a large number of issues such as captured units being able to be used, but in my oppinion being told what you can fight with is very restrictive and is severely detracting from the pleasure of playing the game. Another weakness "in my oppinion" of TOW is the multiplayer selection of units. I had expected that multiplayer be very similar to the single player way of choosing units in the units screen but was today horrified when i started a multiplayer LAN game with my good friend SS_Kesselring (another close combat veteran) to find that you have to fight with a pre determined selection of units rather than choosing units using the points system! Coosing the units that reflect your style of fighting then winning against another human player adds a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and is surely a key part of any successful WW2 multiplayer game! Furthermore i was also expecting to be able to play a campaign in multiplayer not just a single battle! Where every loss or capture would have an effect on the next map adding a whole world of enjoyment to beating and indeed losing to friends! Please don't take any of this the wrong way, i think the game is excellent but it is important that you at least consider these ideas for improvement, i am aware that somtimes it is impossible to program particular changes because the games engine simply cannot deal with such changes. But if at all possible could you? And could you let us know what you think? Cheers SS_KONIG
  2. Firebird76 i'm fairly new to the game and far from an expert but i have learned very quickly how to deal with the AT threat from experincing the Dunkirk Map 2nd scenario in! (not easy lol) My solution is to crawl men into position with orders to hold fire until you can see all the AT threats. Then and only then i will group my tanks, set their gun sight aim to low and order them to advance in line. When they have a clear shot prefarebly from a hull down position i order them to area fire at the AT guns! It normally does the trick particularly if they all shoot at the same target at the same time however somtimes you can be unlucky. Hope this helps! Cheers SS_KONIG
  3. Your right FinnN, i read your responce and gave it some consideration, in reality TOW deserves 8 or 9 out of ten because as you correctly state its not perfect & needs polishing. However i felt that we really needed some balence in regards of the scoring, i think TOW came out at an average of 69% score from official sources on Metacritic so i opted to climb on board the other side of the scales with a 10/10. Unfortunetly the users score table is in increments of 10% (1-10) unlike the official critics increments of 1% (1-100) which somtimes makes it difficult to apply an accurate score rating for us user's. After weighing up the support already given to TOW users and the planned new addon promising to improve the game in all the ways users disire i opted for a 10 rather than a 9. Cheers SS_KONIG
  4. No Goliath's Big Brother you don't have to be from the US, you just have to give them your email address etc. I'm from the UK anyhow. If you are going to review any game on Metacritic remember that usually your review will be posted after 24hrs giving them time to edit and also check the content of your review for obvious reasons! Cheers SS_KONIG
  5. In my opinion its important to let other potential players of this game know just how good it is! I only very recently purchased my copy (days not weeks ago) due to the very mediocre reviews the game received soon after launch, for example PC Zone UK gave it 71%, PC Format 60% and 1UP a measly 40%. I feel that the game deserves far better scores than the critics dished out and can't help but feel that if it was reviewed again now with the Moscow patch installed it would fair much much better. Fortunately there is something we can do AND THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT! There are a number of PC game review sites on the web that compile reviews from respected critics and publications but ALSO US PUNTERS!!! From my experience its our reviews that rely matter rather than some guy who is paid to play and review a game over a weekend, but who would much rather be playing HALO instead, you know what i mean! http://www.metacritic.com The above review site is my personal favourite and i have just posted my review of Theatre Of War there for everyone to see, i might also add that my review is the only one that has been made by a punter, fortunately for TOW that has ensured a great score of 100%! The link below should take you directly to the TOW page. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/theatreofwar If you feel like i do and want to help the TOW community grow, possibly leading to a TOW2 being developed amongst other things, then add your voice to the list and lets get behind this superb and realistic evolution of the WW2 RTS that TOW is!!!! Cheers MWALL (SS_KONIG)
  6. If a supply vehicle is out of the question then at least tanks with turret or weapon damage should be able to drop ammo, in a similar way to the soldiers dropping combat gear! Allowing undamaged but out of ammo tanks to pick the discarded ammo up and re-arm!
  7. 1. The abilty to buy a supply vehicle and re-supply your tanks etc with some of those requisition points.(thats realistic isn't it)? I hate games that allow repairs but re-supply is a must! 2. Line of sight should be blocked by trees & bushes, firing through such obsticles should have large penalties etc! 3. Smoke rounds and their effect on LOS as above. 4. Mortar teams made available. These are just a few ideas i think could improve this already GREAT game!!!!
  8. No probs Sneaksie glad to be of help p.s. this game is fantastic, ive been looking for somthing to replace Close Combat for years and this fits the bill. Not happy about not being able to use and keep captured stuff though!
  9. Ok thanks to the guys here at Battlefront who gave me no help to solve my problems(thanks a lot guys) i had to spend all weekend trying to find a solution myself! For those of you with laptops who know only to well that its impossible to get updated drivers due to ATI not supporting them here is a solution! go to DH Mobility Modder.net at http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ Follow the instructions at bottom of page it worked for me and only took about a half an hour or so, infact almost everything that didnt work on my new laptop is now working! Cheers SS_KONIG
  10. Hi Sneaksie, thx for your quick responce but i have a problem with what you have said! Firstly its a new Laptop so i kinda hoped the Drivers would have been up to date in the first place. Secondly i had already thought about that but on visiting the ATI website i found this message: Mobility Radeon™ Support for Windows Vista Currently AMD does not provide any driver support for Mobility Radeon™ products. All driver and technical support for Mobility Radeon™ products is provided by the original laptop or notebook manufacturer. The drivers that are available for download at ati.amd.com are for desktop products only. To download Windows Vista Mobility Radeon™ drivers or driver updates for your laptop or notebook product, please visit your laptop or notebook manufacturer's website. On visiting my manufacturer's website i get this message: Coming soon to this website: Product specifications Direct sales Driver downloads and product manuals PC Customisation and design your own Zoostorm PC or Laptop Independent product reviews Customer reviews Warranty claim and customer services support But as you can see the site is under construction and there are no downloads available yet!
  11. Ok, yesterday i purchased TOW digital download & hardcopy. I checked first the system specs to make sure it would run on my shiny new Gaming Laptop (duel core,2GB,ATI Mobility Radeon™ X1600, Vista 32bit, etc ) and this is what it said: * Windows Vista: Windows Vista (32 bit) is not "officially" supported in this release although we have tested with it and have found that if you have the latest, non-beta drivers for your video and sound card installed, it should work. ** Windows Vista 64bit: Due to an incompatability between Vista 64 bit and Theatre of War, the Mission Editor will NOT function in Vista 64 bit. *** The following intergrated Video Chipsets and Video Cards are expressely NOT supported: Mobile Intel® 900, 915, 925, 82945G or 945GM/GU Express Chipsets Nvidia GF440MX and earlier ATI Radeon 9200 and earlier *** The following intergrated Video Chipsets has been shown to result in poor performance ATI Radeon Xpress However after a 3hr download & install including the new Moscow Mod/Patch all i get is; Runtime error #39(trap) Please, contact vendor of this application. I have tried the map editor and that loads up just fine but i can't get the game to work, as you can imagine i'm gutted this was my birthday prezzie can anyone help? Cheers SS_KONIG
