  1. I just have to push the button to upgrade to Win 10. However, I am waiting for a 2TO external drive to come for saving what seems important before making the jump into what was some days ago the unknown. That was what I thought before reading some the posts dealing with Win 10. I expect eventually some problems, but there might be none. As soon as I shall get some free time and a safe window for doing it I shall cross the "Rubicon" Aleas Jacta est ..................No way back.........
  2. @bulletpoint @Umlaut You are right. The only way is : 1/ to have the troops move back, well behing the hedgerow 2/ to order them to move close to it That way they will deploy along the hedgerow and face the enemy since they were on their last order moving toward them.
  3. Thanks Koh, If you can provide me with a truck I shall load it with extra pairs of trousers and bring along a washing machine. We won't need a dryer, the Germans might have some flame teams we could use
  4. The situation at the bridge seems to be on control. Two Pz IV's out of action, that is a great feat nearly unbelievable few minutes ago. These ATG guys deserved medals. Great AAR Stonecutter
  5. More... The safety of the tanks is present when they can move quickly from one point to the other, presenting a lesser target. Anyway the bridge will be a choke point and they will have to slow down. If they can nail the Pz IV before or at least make them move back, the crossing will be easier. So my friends these are not negative thoughts but ones deriving from the experiences of such situation, that I learned a long time ago and that I am finding to my delight in CM. To be honest, I am not always pleased by my results, but they are close to reality and the objective is more to avoid some mistakes, than to try win the fight. and loose my pants and run for the life of my pixels troops. Cheer
  6. What I wrote is negative that I agree . Having not the overall picture, the situation of B ,despites their gallant fight, seems uncomfortable. However my assesment is based on the fact that more than often, I have had few tanks stopping their forward movement while being shot at by infantry with rifles and or MG. They were not a real threat to the tanks , but they stopped and waited. Doing so they were sitting ducks for tanks lurking for them farther away in overwatch (like the 2 Pz IV that could be damaged - ChappyCanuck report).
  7. I am just waiting to see how the Shermans will fight the Pz IV. There were two, at the bridge site or around, minus one. Thanks to the ATG. That makes one remaining there and another one moving on A Company flank. That makes two for sure, plus two that were maybe damaged and reported by ChappyCanuck as staying back. If these ones are not damaged they might be able to pick up the Shermans when they arrive and make them reeling backward, instead of going forward ! Cheer
  8. You see how things go, I misunderstood your report and thought they were ours.. LOL. I imagine the guy calling HQ and announcing that two Shermans had arrived and told they are rather Germans ! I have no access to Dropbox 002 and 003 ema files but only to the bts ones. the last one being 049S Cheer
  9. Hi ChappyCanuck, The counter attack was the intelligence officer assessment we learned about. We did not know at the time when and if and where. however the woods on the right front made an eventual approach difficult to see until they arrived with a perfect down view on B Company and partly on A Company far away. That is why I thought it was to my view, one of the best approach axis for the Germans. Glad to learn that one ATG has knocked down a Pz IV (At least that helped the guys having no Piat to slow down the Pz IV) and that the Shermans will have the upper hand, at least in number against the Pz IV. For the rest like in a real fight I don't have a god eyes view and only a partial and incomplete one. That explains somehow my comments. Cheer PS: I had no idea that two tanks were with A Company at the moment. Are they going to cross at the bridge site where B is holding a tenuous bridgehead ?
  10. Looking at the ground and at the tactical situation of B Company, this is not a surprise. From the start they had no way to avoid a costly german counter attack made by a platoon of tanks with some Pz grenadiers, but to stay low and pray for the Shermans to come quickly at their rescue. I think that the other way, meanwhile is for A Company to move quickly forward, in order to relieve the pressure B is having; That might divert the Germans tanks and save their day. As for me D Company commander, I could not have drawn a worst time to get into the fight. it seems it will be better for you, IanL with your C Company. At least it looks like it at the moment. I am just thinking that the shermans could have a hot welcome and if they stay on the high ground they will have somehow the same treatment than their mate smoking near the ford high ground. if I was in comamnd, I would race for the bottom of the ford and wait there hull down for the Jerries. I think, that in order to be able to do so, I would use immediately some smoke to hide my tanks the time to get down the slope. 5 pence advice, you might say, as we know everything is changing once the fight goes on. 11. Usually a Picture is worth a thousand words. Stonecutter AAR is certainly worth than few pictures. You almost feel there reading it. Because of it, I am in no hurry to get into action, unless the awaited tank reinforcement makes the balance tip on our Side. Cheer
  12. Thanks a lot Kevinkin, that should help Artemis. Cheer
  13. Hi Artemis258, I just had a glance at your inquiry. Give me a day or two and I shall figure out what would be best for a H2H. But I already think that you should enter the editor and on the German side remove all the AI plans. You can leave the reinforcement as they are or modify their arrival as suited. You will have to provide the German side with some artillery. The one they have at the moment are AI. To my feeling you can leave the positions of the Red and of the German the way they are, unless you feel differently. In that case, you will have to draw new setup positions for both sides in the editor. In any case make a copy of the file with a new name in order to work on it. Cheer
  14. Thanks Stonecutter for borrowing my Jeep. The way things are going, I can already figure that it is going to end up as a heap of twisted metal. I figure that I 'll be better walking down toward the Moro, than riding in it with the tanks training their 75 on it. Good luck ! D Company CO
  15. News could not have been worst for D Company. I hope B, acting new commander, will able to maintain the bridgehead if the PZ grenadiers and tanks are attempting to move down to the Moro Cheer
  16. Better doing it there than on the road, I would not like to be near it on a road. Crazy and hairy video. Thanks
  17. Not me koh, I need my car in a good shape, however that is the best way to get around the curve using the handbrake (if it is linked to the rear wheels) without slowing down too much. Swedish and or Finnish driving tip. Years ago I used to do it with my old Beetle and managed to stay alive. In the Army, driving a tank, it does not work and you are rewarded with some days in jail for having done an unauthorized track through the forest.
  18. "Alamo in the Ardennes" wriitten by Jon C. McManus is an excellent book with a good coverage of the fight done by K Company from 110th IR and Combat Engineer B Company from the 103rd Battalion in Hosingen.. Koh, the map is depicting very well the area. I have been driving through the Skyline road few times, in summer and or winter the view on either side (Luxemburg and or Germany) is fantastic if condition prevail. However in winter you have to be careful when snow is falling. The wind is changing the driving condition sometimes very quickly and you have a very limited view.
  19. Koh,* I have not found anything telling us "no point targets" besides what you already wrote: 8. Artillery and mortars: Please follow the rules for our policy of restricting artillery and mortars from overtaking the game. Defender cannot preplan any fire. Both sides have a max diameter for area fire per “tube”. 20m per EACH mortar and 35m for EACH “tube” of regular artillery. Plus up to 10% wiggle room since it can be hard to exactly adjust it with your mouse. The exact diameter you have requested can be double-checked in the artillery mission dialog box under the spotter for the mission. Example: 2 mortars would be an area target of 2x20=40x1.1= 44m max diameter. 4 x105mm artillery guns = 4x35=140x1.1 =154m max diameter. Got it?
  20. I heard on radio a serious advice made by a medical team. " Take a cold shower go to bed naked, have a light sheet spread on you and leave outside one of your leg to allow some fresh air in." They just forgot to say what should be done if a woman is laying next to you ? That might be quite dangerous and the degrees might surge up in the room !
  21. Hi Koh, Since, few of us are participating, you don't have to worry about the champagne , the caviar and the extras, we can take care of these, since we don't know of what tomorrow will be done moving to the Moro it might be better for us to celebrate before the battle ! TBH I am more optimist about the battle than seeing an ice sculpture Bren Carrier moving into my lawn with all the goodies ! As a matter of fact we have a heat wave alert over here ! Hi Chappy, All the same, the higher up are celebrating and the poor sods are left in the rain and the mud, waiting and waiting, always waiting for the order to move forward. More seriously, thanks for the smoke if needs arise. However it might take some time to be in effect. We are far away, in CMFI, from a thirty seconds to one minute fire for effect done nowdays. Cheer
