  4. You can visualize a 3:30 minutes video of the battle of 1 hour I fought against the Russians attacking my airport positions. The setting of the forces is set at Medium. I think that a higher setting will slow the game and too many troops on the map will not help at all the player. Beside it will be unrealistic IMHO.

  11. Name of the QB map: Donetz airport (4550 x 2700)attack.btt Thanks to all of you for your renewed patience along these long months. Just one more effort, I have sent my request to be an author with FGM. I should have done it earlier, but RL made me let it aside ! So, right now I am waiting for the administrator to open my account and hen I will be able to upload the QB Map. Finally, the map size is 4550 x 2700. I have made some testing but if something sound weird, well just let me know. I rushed the final testing in order to be able to release it before leaving. I might not be able to do it, but once I will get the account, I will do the utmost to do it very quickly. I have to remind you that the Red side (the Russians) is attacking the airport and that the Blue side (the Ukrainians) is defending it and or counter attacking. I have noticed that since the map is long it takes some time for the tracks and or vehicles to move in position. I think that it will be best to play the Ukrainian side and to do so in WEGO in order to have a good Situation Awareness. Beware not to set the time limit too low. I think that one hour is the least that should be used, considering the time it takes to move the units. In any case if some of you are not satisfied by the size of the map, it can be copied and then modified to what please you the most. I think that the battle will be very different from what I have seen on some QB map. That being the result of its size. Let me know what you like and or dislike on it and while playing it. Your remarks are highly needed in order to improve a designer ability and to make him also aware of its errors. All of us are doing some and the best way to get rid of them is to know about them, right ? No. I will open a new post for the map as soon as it is uploaded. A last thing. I have not done any briefing. Have a good and numerous time playing it. Just do not forget to give me credit of it if you are using it differently. Cheer
  12. Thanks Haiduk, your post is just on time for the name to be corrected. I am testing QB right now. Release map size will be 4550 x 2700. If nothing wrong happens I think I could upload it tomorrow. Chudacabra, I will do a scenario later on, but I will not do a campaign. IMHO the core units are difficult to set correctly, since you can never be sure of the amount of casualties an that will offset the reinforcements you have thought might be needed.
  13. Great news, I am nearing the end of the first Donetz QB Map 3900 x 2700. The next one, 6300 x 2700 will be covering the end of the runway, all the way down to Pisky (see the map). My intent is to release it before I leave early thursday morning. I only have to finish the red tinted are of Vesele. That should not take too much time, since I only have houses to put in. I have had to restrain myself putting down too many flavor object, since they will take their part of load on the CPU. I prefer to let you have some game fluidity instead of too many details, which will not help you, while fighting a battle. The following pictures will show the landmarks of the Donetz airport area and some will be able therefore to set up their battle the way they like. I will not pretend that this is the most accurate map which has been ever done about Donetz on CMBS, but it is close to what I dreamed of when I decided 2 years ago to make it. It was a painful and slow work, due to some testing and numerous leaves away from home. I also, had to let aside the first WIP done following a scale error I had made while using an overlay. That was a good lesson and believe me I have not done, ever since the same mistake. I really hope that you will found in that QB map what you are expecting and that you will play numerous battles on it. I will post the download link as soon as possible. Cheer
  14. Good point Combatintman. Since ancient times the Infantry (dismounted) has always been considered and rightly called the Queen of battles. Now that we have mounted Infantry, parking lots seem a necessity. No parking lots, no Infantry. At least it should work that way ...

  19. Back home, WIP has been resumed. Have a look at the latest pictures. BTW, there is no way now to have a look at the area on Google Earth. It has now a strategic importance. Lucky I had taken shots a year ago. The QB small map will be released soon. Will inform all of you.
  20. Hi Splinty, Like you I favor the original map size I made first. However it is a map which will be played easily in QB only with a recent rig. The graphic card and the RAM must have a good size memory available, that if you want to have a playing comfort. For that reason the smaller map will be easier for the rig to follow up, As I wrote it, the smaller one will have its final touch done on my return and later the bigger one will be finished. I am at the moment thinking of the scenario I might be making. On the smaller one, I could attempt to duplicate (with quite few historical flexibility) the fight for the approach or defence of the airport terminal. On the bigger one I could make a scenario set in 2017 -2020 for the take over of the airport with a NATO (with Ukrainian forces) counter attack against the Russian forces, after they had started an attack using the area as a Departure Line. The larger and longer size of the map might be perfect for tank battles.
  21. Thanks Haiduk. I will send you a mail when I will be ready to make a Force OOB on the map. But first I will release a QB map as I wrote it. I think that the large map might be very difficult to play for a player, since its computer might have difficulties. So, the map shown above will also be the one for the scenario I intent to do.
  22. @ Erwin, Thanks Erwin. Interesting, you want to play it again. Right now I am also engaged in the same fight "UK a helluva take over - Op Market Garden". I have secured LZ Nira 1 and 2, after having had two Counter Attacks (Platoons size or one Company ?) against Hassan village, defeated. I also had a strong and powerful armor thrust along Nira LZ 1, aimed at the bridge and dam area. I was able to stop it with whatever I had in hand at first in order to gain time, for one Humvee ATGM to get in position on the heights of the dam. Then the Apache was available. I stopped the penetration short of the bunker being at the end of the bridge. Despite having done the scenario, I was surprised more than one time and had great fun playing it. I am now waiting for the Brits to come and maybe reach the airport, which I do not recall, I had succeeded to do. I reminded having trouble destroying bunkers with the SMAW. I had them again. I also was again surprise to see that abunker was destroyed (Red base) but its occupants were still keeping up the fight ! Finally the bunker could only be destroyed (if it was not) with the occupants by only using a squad able to assault it. I have also seen in the AAR that Nira LZ 2 was not secure. However all bunkers being on it had been destroyed and the occupants killed. That might be a Bug, Will see what I can do about it. Enjoy your battle and take care of the choppers and planes.   24. These are the 4 pictures showing a reduce map size, cut down to 4048 x 2368 meters. They have been taken in the following order: left top, left bottom, right top and right bottom He took me a long time (few minutes) to load the 3D view in the Editor , only to been unable to move the view, my memory being overloaded (I had not restarted my Win 7 PC), so I had to do with the map only. You will understand that I will have to wait to be back home in two weeks to be able to finish the map. Fences have to be added around some houses, some RR tracks checked as well as other things that I have not in mind at the moment but that I would rather not forget. It would an idiot thing on my part to let you have a map not up to your expectation. If you think that the size could be reduced to a length of 3000 meters or less let me know. Take in account that the following are part of the battle area and should not be omitted : The airport terminal, the control tower, the airport facilities on the right, the houses seen all the way down (of the map). Spartak (from memory ?) on the top right. Could it be cut down ? Maybe not since it was part of the airport defence. Haiduk could say more about it.
  25. I think that I could release rather soon a smaller map with the airport, the control tower, less than half of the runway, the airport facilities and the houses area seen on the pictures. That will allow players to attempt to defend and or attack the airport depending on the side they will decide to fight. They will only have to put the map file in the Quick Battle repertory. That will be a small area but I think that players will enjoy it as much as a bigger area and they will be able to load it and play it even with a weaker rig?
