Need help as axis in Egypt
flip replied to flip's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Thx for the help guys!...I'm still a vanilla SC2 player. I got a ways to go in that game before I'm ready to tackle WAW. I'll try your advice...so far the biggest problem is that my units get up to alexandria so that I'm gonna attack the next turn. But they get hit by british air, and are just understrength enough that I can't get kill the alexandria unit. I get close, but can't get that last point. Part of the problem is I've been at IW1 until just recently (despite 5 chits invested for over a year! argh). But now I finally made it to IW2, so I'll try putting my HQ on Tobruk itself before I attack next and see if that does the trick. Thanks! -
I've read in some earlier posts from Terrif that the Axis can take Egypt if they really want it. But how do you stop the Brits from pounding the Tobruk port every turn and keeping supply at 1? That plus the Malta effect means I can't get enough supply to the units next to Alexandria to actually take it out cuz they are so far from the HQ which has to sit at 1 hex next to Tobruk to get any supply. I've killed alot of ships in naval battles, and with my AF, but the Italian navy is toast at this point, and kiling his ships with my AF units is expensive and slow. Does anyone have any recommendations for this situation? Use 2 HQ's to take Alexandria? Or do I have to just wait it out and hope that he eventually runs out of ships?

Anybody up for a PBEM with a quasi-noob?

I've seen sealion discussed many times on these boards - and against my friends I've been able to pull it off no prob. But in the small number of games i've played (5 or 6 now), it seems to be that taking England before taking Cairo is foolish. All it does is ramp up USSR and U.S. readyness, and makes it much harder to take cairo since brits can locally build forces there. On the other hand, I find it hard to take Cairo before '41 - in which case, there's not alot of time to do a sea lion before barbarossa. Unless I'm just being too slow? I'm sure you guys have opinions on this (probably already posted in another thread), but I'd like to get them again. In any event, it's seems like no matter what, there's no point in doing a sea lion unless you've already taken Cairo....what do you think?

Is this normal?
flip replied to flip's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Ok thx! I would have never figured that out - I normally just move my transports via the shortest route. So I just need to hug the coast as much as possible. That is an excellent suggestion. -
This has happened to me twice now....I invade norway with 1 army and 1 corps (brits one time, nazi's another time) on turn 4. I hit the beaches with my corps first, then the army. I attack first with the army- do 2 damage. Then the corps hits with 1 damage and kills the unit. But then I can't occupy the capital. And then of course the weather goes bad on turn 5. Is this typical? I thought the army would normally do 3 damage, thereby letting my corps move in (it says 3 on the odds). Am I just getting bad luck?

Air & Naval Supremacy

What's the best way to reduce axis supply in your landing area? Do you use bombers on that particular city? Also - what's a good method for having a successful amphib invasion when no ground based air available (i.e., England is conquered, or trying to invade Italy from North africa). Cariers help reduce entrenchment, but I only have 2 or 3 available and it seems insufficient. Or is it that you can only really amphib invade if you have a ton of land based air available? -
Do you guys ever get industrial tech for russia? Is it worth it? Under what circumstance would you do it? I'm playing a friend of mine (we are both supreme newbs), and he did a very expensive Sea Lion. So Russia readiness is high, and they are in no danger of being attacked anytime soon since he hasn't had a chance to build up his army on the eastern front. So is this a good place for me to invest in Russia Industrial tech? Seems like the mpp base would be pretty high, so I should get a good from it. Any thoughts?

what if you don't capture a port? The next turn your HQ would be at supply 0 and therefore would your units also be at 0? I know from Terrif's reply to a similiar question I had that as long as the HQ has at least a supply 1 from the captured port, it can supply the units (to 8 I think - something like that). But what if the HQ doesn't have a port - then everyone's at 0 right?

Supply effects if port city = 0
flip replied to flip's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
One more question - if the nazi's also bomb the brest city down to 0, then the allies get 0 supply right? Because then both the port and the city are at 0? Also - same thing for Gibralter and Malta? i.e., both are considered cities, so even if the port at 0, the defending unit will still be in supply unless the city also is bombed to 0? Thx a bunch for the help! -
experience for AF units
flip replied to flip's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
thx a bunch for the info! Now I know why I my AF's weren't progressing despite a ton of sorties over Malta. One more question - does the range at which you attack with your AF affect how much damage you do? i.e., if you attack a unit at the edge of your AF's range, is that attack less effective than if it had been closer? Or is it no difference? Thanks again for the help!
