  1. What Pzman says about C2D CPU's is correct. But unlike most modern games CMSF doesnt use both cores, so you will not get 4.8Ghz from your 2.4 C2D....you will only get 2.4Ghz.
  2. Armour Attacks is an excellent scenario, and pretty tough. Im playing it at present and just got my Blue force badly shot up by an armoured counter-attack whilst redeploying in the open. Scenario is VERY resource hungry though due to huge map and lots of units....
  3. Steve mentioned work is to be undertaken to try to remove the graphical glitches & I wondered if this will be in 1.09. At present, the many glitches, especially the sudden complete screen refresh does not exactly help with immersion. I enjoy the game but it seems that every time I'm lost in it, down in the streets with the troops so to speak, something wierd happens to the graphics.....big refresh, an apparant sideways shift of vehicles or buildings, trees refreshing.......and it suddenly makes you realise you are just playing a game on a computer. These things happen several times during a typical 1 hour scenario, and if they were eliminated the game would be a much more enjoyable experience than it already is.
  4. Seems I was wrong about overclocking my CPU bringing graphical stability (see other thread). I made one other change at the same time as I overclocked and it is that other change that has made the difference. In fact I have now clocked my CPU back to its original speed (2.4ghz)and am getting great graphics with everying maxed out (Best/Best/V-synch on/AA and AF on). The thing I did that has made the difference is to STOP using the facility in the Nvidia control panel that lets you allocate non-default settings to individual games. I now just use the cards default settings with AA and AF both set to 8x. So it seems that for me at least there is some incompatibility between CMX2 and the Nvidia control panel that allows non-default settings for specific games. Just thought this might help others with Nvidia cards.....
  5. YD Interesting. So it seems to be a mismatch between CPU & GPU. I basically needed either a less demanding GPU or a more powerfull CPU. It kind of makes sense.
  6. I was having a lot of problems with unstable graphics - terrain underlay showing through/flashing shadows & objects/redrawing etc & it was ruining the game for me. This was despite having an 8800gtx 768MB!Tried different drivers/lowering settings etc but nothing worked. Eventually I decided to overclock my 2.4Ghrtz dual core CPU to 3.15Ghrtz. What a difference it has made! Now got smooth graphics & scrolling and enjoying the game immensely. So to those of you with graphics issues despite having powerful GPU's it is the speed of your processor that is likely to be causing the problem. And to BFC......are you going to recode this game for dual core compatibility, since as it stands at present dual core users are unlikely to have enough power to run the game properly.
  7. Because c3k mentioned the scenario I loaded up Al Amarah last night and tried to get my squads to line the elevated road and pour concentrated fire into the buildings on the other side. Would they do it? I could get 2 guys from each squad at the ridge firing at the enemy whilst the rest sat lower down the hill twiddling their thumbs. The alternative would be to have some of the squad on top of the ridge getting killed. Since concentration of firepower is such an essential element of warfare in this century, in this respect CMSF does not even come close to simulating it. The ideal solution would be the ability to 'draw' a position/formation for the squad on the terrain as in the TW series...but no doubt this would be impossible to implement.
  8. It kind of bothers me what Steve says about graphics issues in the paragragh above.ie that it is the card not coping. I get all these issues (zooming trees/flickering shadows/disappearing terrain so that only the underlay shows/trenches that change colour and breadth according to camera position/instant redraws etc)with an 8800gtx (768MB) which is one of the most powerful cards on the market. This card should be able to cope. I have lowered the settings and switched drivers but this does not help (in fact it increases the number of problems). And I find all these graphical glitches to be completely distracting....
  9. Just read through this very long thread. I agree with what was said on P4. It is scenario quality that makes or breaks these games. A crap scenario with esoteric gear is still a crap scenario and no fun to play. A great scenario with limited gear is still great (like the CMBO demo)and lots of fun to play. It really is that simple. CMSF just needs a few more great scenarios.
  10. Yep I agree with DzrtFox. Get those 2 issues fixed in 1.07, get the patch out quickly and leave the further tweaks for 1.08, 1.09, 1.10, 1.11......oh and 1.12!
  11. So there is a problem with the AI setup in the first 2 campaign scenarios at least and also with any scenario where AI forces should be placed in buildings that do not occupy a single tile? Is this the same 'bug'? Can BFC correct it and what are their plans to do so? Thanks
  12. Hotfix would be great since 1.06 is pretty much there as regards everything else....
  13. Luckily I did manage to cancel my order of the paradox CD. Waiting for the campaign to be fixed on the BFC version now before ordering direct.
  14. I'd like to know if anyone with the paradox version has got it working with 1.06 too......
  15. Is the crash only on some rigs or is everyone with the Paradox version experiencing it? I want to know because I just bought the Paradox version (not delivered yet) & I'm starting to think I made a mistake........
