  1. I had been taking the DEP (or what ever it is) security off individual files & must not have got them all. So I changed ot just essential Microsoft files & it worked - though I haven't checked the mission editor yet.
  2. OK I uninstalled, again loaded the patch and reinstalled. After everything seemed to load the screen just froze on the tank. After I got out of that I tried to open the game and I get a pop up box with a small case i in a blue circle and 1813-2. Any idea what that is? thanks
  3. Do you mean the DVD version patch (I've done that) or is there a Vista compatibility patch? Thanks for your help.
  4. Crap! That didn't work! Sigh Excuse my frustration, but this is what I mean by TOW being a royal pain. Frankly Vista has been know of and out long enough for the designers to make TOW compatable. I'm also getting a wrong game version error & yes I tried the copy msvcr71.dll and msvcp71.dll fix and that didn't work. I don't want to get frustrated, I don't really blame anybody. I'm a computer idiot and I really don't have the right to throw stones at anyone. I just want to be able to play the game.
  5. I got my hard copy of TOW and loaded it but get this message when I try to open "elicense control In order to finish initalizing, this application must first be run by a user with administrator privileges. Please contact your system administrator for help 5-2" I am the system administrator & I have been no help in with this problem. I had previously downloaded TOW and did the license thing, but had Vista related problems and could not open the game. I was/am hoping that some how the hard copy would work. How do I finish initializing? Man this game is a royal pain in the ass [ May 13, 2007, 12:24 PM: Message edited by: zebedee ]
  6. I've installed the latest video driver, but that hasn't worked. dgm & others on the Tech board have been trying to help me, but so far nothing has worked & frankly I need a break from wading through pages & pages of tech problem/solutions threads.
  7. Seems I have a Vista-TOW related problem & until it gets figured out, what other game could I play that is similar to TOW?
  8. I'm still waiting on my email telling me that I can download the game. </font>
  9. Normal Dude I think about doing that. The problem though is that the unfortunate consequence of a Microsoft monopoly is that Vista, warts and all, will be forced on every one as the future OS. : ( I never received my hard copy of TOW, have they shipped? I'm hoping that somehow the video game goods will allow that to work on my system.
  10. That didn't work. dmg thank you for your efforts. Is it possible to get a refund? I've never had this much hasel with a game. I don't understand why it doesn't work. I've loaded and played CMBB with out any problems. Why is it an older game works fine in Vista, but the new one doesn't. Seems kinda backwards to me.
  11. I got the new machine. I downloaded TOW but now I get the "Wrong version" editor error & main game doesn't launch problem. I read the sticky regarding this issue and turned off the DEP for TOW and the editor, rebooted and I still have the same problem. Any suggestions?
