  1. Opteron 185 - dual core. try shutting down background services and programs with this: http://alacritypc.kensalter.com/ It will help. Have you cleaned out your registry and temp files lately? That also helps.
  2. I have the same problem. I can play through the first mission, but CTD about 90% load for the second mission.
  3. The hotfix got things running. Thanks. Will there be a third person view? I use the enter key to zoom in on the unit and to help with the line of site. But I find myself unlocking that view and trying to follow the unit in third person, partly for fun and to enjoy the eye candy.
  4. I've got the same problem. I did update the DirectX on my computer, but to no benefit. I get through the intro videos and then it crashes. I have Windows XP Professional and an ATI X1900XT video card updated to the 9.2 drivers set on factory defaults. Had the same problem with the 9.1's.
  5. Thanks for the translations, but I can't get that far. I just get CTD.
  6. Thanks for the response. I'll try to wait. Maybe I'll use Babylon to get fractured translations of the russian text.
  7. Sure, and would that wait be as long as the lag between the Russian and English demos for Men of War?
  8. Got the download. I would appreciate a few pointers on what to do, since it's all in Russian. Such as, click the second button, etc.
  9. Gamershell download speed is OK, maybe 2.5 hours: http://www.gamershell.com/download_39512.shtml
  10. Do you have an ATI video card? If so, reset all of the settings to Factory Defaults in the Preferences tab. This has worked for some of us.
  11. I'm getting a bit tired of watching panzer 1's knock over giant redwoods and want to try out this mod, even if it results in a Tiger being unable to go through a wooden fence. But where is the NAVIGATION.INI file. It's not in the DATA/SETTINGS folder.
  12. Yes, install JSH v 1.3.1 then v 1.3.2. This is from the readme in the mod: New feature – Tank-borne infantry Pz-IVF1, Pz-IVF2, Pz-IVG, StuG-IV, Т-34 mod. 41, Т-34 mod.43, Т-34-85, Т-34-57 now can transport soldiers on top (10 men maximum on German vehicles and 8 men maximum on Russian vehicles). Pzkpfw T-27A 734®, Pzkpfw T-60/70 734®, T-27 now can tow guns and carry up to 4 men (gun crew) on top. I hope he does a mod soon for allied tanks. I highly recommend that you install Oddballs sound mod. Much better than the game weapon sounds. http://www.cmmods.com/web/CMMods.nsf and the blue icon, black smoke and dark tree mod from here: http://hosted.filefront.com/rofl21/
  13. Do you have onboard sound as well as a sound card? If you do it helps to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS. This isn't as freaky to do as some people think. Also unplug all of your USB connections. Sometimes devices can share something called an RFQ that will result in game slow downs and stutters. I had my headset plugged into the front usb port on my old Dell and it was the cause of major stutters.
  14. It's always a good idea to really clean things out when you do an uninstall. After you have uninstalled the game, go into your Programs Files and delete the Battleground folder. Then run Ccleaner and Glary Utilities to clean out temp files and your registry. Whenever you install software it installs code in your registry that may not be removed with an uninstall and may continue to bugger things up after a reinstall. Use the cleaner and registry in Ccleaner. Use the one click maintenance in Glary Utilities. http://www.ccleaner.com/ http://www.glaryutilities.com/ Once you have reinstalled the game, go into Program Files/Battlefront and make a copy of the Theatre of War folder and leave it there as backup. That way if things get messed up, you don't have to do a reinstall. Plus it's a good "bank" to get folders that haven't been copied over. I don't usually unzip directly into game folders. Instead I unzip into a temp folder on my desktop and see what the new folders are. Then I go into the game folder and make copies of the folders that will be copied over and save them in the game folder. Only after this do I copy the new folders into the game folder, or just unzip into the game folder. All of this may seem tedious, but it wil make life easier for you in the long run.
  15. I couldn't deal with CMBB. The way it modelled human figures made me feel I was playing a bad version of South Park with military vehicles. Human figures with the body motions of Gerry Lewis. People really don't look like that, you know, and they really really don't run like that. Everybody let's kick up our heels.
  16. Why the resistance to installing a mod so that your men can ride on a tank? Every game I play has been greatly improved by mods made by people that enjoy making the game better. IL2 only really became fun when people could mod it. Take Command is now a great game because of mods. Why does a game have to be "best out of the box" in order for you to play it?
  17. Do you keep your computer clean, uncluttered and uninfected? Do you clean out your registry? Do you have a bunch of useless software running in the background? I’ve got an older Opteron 184 and ATI X1900 XT and the game runs very smooth. Here are some free utilities that will help. Use Ccleaner and Glary Utilities to clean out the junk. I’ve used them both for a long time now and neither will cause you any problems. Use the cleaner and registry in Ccleaner. Use the one click maintenance in Glary Utilities. http://www.ccleaner.com/ http://www.glaryutilities.com/ The nicest sites put spyware on your system and then sell the results of tracking you net usage to marketing companies. Porn sites don’t care. I used Ad-Aware for a long time but recently I have been using Superantispyware and Spyware Doctor to clean out malware that my Kaspersky security system lets through. Run quick scans with both. I don’t run a full scan with Spyware Doctor because I have found it identifies part of Hyperlobby as spyware. If you find several spyware on your system, it would be a good idea to run the antispyware software in Safe Mode as well. http://www.superantispyware.com/ A free version of Spyware doctor is available with the Google pack. http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall all of the software that you don’t need or didn’t know was there and then clean out your registry with Ccleaner and Glary Utilities. Install the PCI Latency tool. It smoothes out stutters and improves framerate. For anything that isn’t set to 000 or 064, right click on New Latency, enter 064, then under Settings, click Save and check Apply on Startup.. http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/PCI-Latency-Tool-31-build-2-Download-18183.html Right click on your task bar at the bottom of your desk top and click on Task Manager. It will tell you if you have any programs running, and under the processes tab how many services are running and the usage of your memory. I use my computer for work and have 53 processes running and have a commit charge (on my memory) of 563m out of 3939m. Most gaming fiends get the processes down to below 20. Alacrity turns off unnecessary programs and services. The developer initially wrote it (FSAutoStart) for MS Flight Simulator but I use it for this game and IL2. http://kensalter.com/forum/index.php I also use O & O Clevercache which manages my systems usage of memory. It also smoothes things out, but I paid for it. CachemanXP does the same and I think it’s free. I haven’t used it for a long time. http://www.outertech.com/index.php?_charisma_page=index
  18. There isn't a data folder in the un-modded game folder. I forgot and just reminded myself. So copy both effects and data folders into the main game folder. It's a good idea to make a copy of your un-modded but patched game folder before you start adding new folders and writing over existing folders. That way if thinks screw up you don't have to start from scratch. I made a copy of the patched game and keep it in my Battlefront folder in Programs. And sometimes just to be careful I make copies of folders that I am going to write over. I recommend that you also install Oddballs sounds v 0.8 from here: http://www.cmmods.com Completely changes the immersion of the game. Big booming, cracking cannon sounds and realistic small arms sounds that are enough to make you crap yourself at times. This sound mod, plus the dark trees and the blue icons are the best things that have happened to this game, at least for the battles and campaigns that came with the game. I don't know if the JSHv1.3.2_eng_patch has an effect on the equipment in the game battles or whether the stuff in this patch only shows up in community made battles and campaigns. I've installed it anyway. There are some good battles in cmmods as well. I wish I could play British Bulldogs Beta 2 past the first mission but it crashes just before the second mission installs. Too bad. I've read a lot about this part of the Normandy campaign and would really like to work through some of the battles in this campaign. And the new maps.

  20. Make copies of your data and effects folders in your game folder and then copy over the effects and data folders. And then you'll get lovely black oily smoke from burning vehicles. Try out the dark trees and blue icons from the same place. Great improvement in game play. I haven't played an autumn battle yet to see what the autumn tree colours look like.
  21. I maxed out all the other settings, including checking "Enable Adaptive Anti_Aliasing" and sliding it to the far right and sliding Catalyst AI to the far right and the shadows are OK.
  22. I tried all settings for the AA, including sliding over to 6X and checking "use application settings" or "Temporal anti-aliasing". Even with the slider at 2X and "use application settings" checked the shadows are displaced and move around with the camera. It's only when I reset under the Preferences tab to "Restore Factory settings" that the problem is cleared up.
  23. I'm interested in using ROFL's flag mod, but can someone here tell me what it does, and also, where do I put the folder? In the main game file?
  24. You can get it here. http://hosted.filefront.com/rofl21/ I've read some comments on this forum that people like it. I've just installed it in response to your post.
