  1. 1C Company as the developer of Theater of War states that 1C Company doesn’t object to the modding of the game, however TOW modding has nothing to do with the modding of IL2 Sturmovik. SFS formats differ in IL2 and ToW. 1C Company also states that it can not support modders and answer their questions about their problems. So, the players are free to mod the current game version as-is. SIO

  3. Set threaded optimisation to OFF in video card settings, not AUTO. AUTO means one of the ON/OFF options will be selected - in your case that could be ON (check troubleshooting guide). After that, try 1 cpu option.
  4. Hi all, I'll try to clarify the slight misunderstanding of the aiming and firing here. You mix 2 things: - ability to AIM more or less precisely at a moving target. - attempts of a shooter unit to aim AHEAD of the target, when it is moving. Those thing are not the same. In general, optics for the guns were quite advanced at that time - many had special marks for "moving target", "fast moving target", etc. Skilful shooters either take aim at some place ahead of the moving target and wait there, or move their weapon ahead of the target smoothly. This is all taken into the consideration in TOW. First, the aiming ability IS influenced by the target movement in the game. Gunners need to extra rotate the turret, shooters must re-aim each shot (or burst) etc. All that takes time. Also, aiming does not become more accurate with each shot, then. And we do not do any "extra" penalties for the taking aim at a moving target. Second, the game units DO aim ahead of the moving target in TOW. Preceding fire exists in TOW. About the infantry not being hit. The bullets must hit the soldier physically (any body part), not just some area around him. That's the first reason of why the bullets do not hit infantry right away. Also, check the upcoming visibility and aiming topic. SIO
  5. Hi all with CPU problems, if, after all of your efforts with the troubleshooting you still have the low FPS and you believe it can be because of your CPU (expecially AMD), you can identify your CPU here in this post for the devs to check it. Use CPUID utility. You can get CPUID utility here (it's free): http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Currently it's version is 1.40. After you installed and launched it, go to the "About" tab, hit "Registers Dump (.txt)" button, save it to the text file. If you want to post your result on the forum, please (please!!!) post only a first part of the result file, up to and including the Processor Information. If you think we must see all the file then email it to me. Do not post hundreds of pages on the forum, save the trees Also, please indicate the FPS your are getting. SIO

Dr Jones, respect, can I also be in your mailing list for this utility? SIO
  7. SIO Can you tell me if changeing the resolution settings from 1024x 768 70hrz to 1024 1280 75 may have caused in my case the freezing occuring now? I changed back to the old setting but stll same freezing problem game is running but not responding. Battlefront </font>
  8. No, soldiers do not have internal components. The head hit does the same damage as the body hit.
  9. Yes it does horizontal calculations as well as vertical.
  10. I see. In your case it can be a configuration, because the OS might have reserved 1 CPU for "its own" needs, whatever it is. That is why it allows you to switch off only other 3. So, if it is an OS config, maybe you just do not run as ADMINISTRATOR of the computer, hence only 3 "switchable" cores? By the way, you pressed OK after you switched all 3 available cores off, and it still didn't tell you that message? Sorry for asking again - just want to be 100% sure... SIO
  11. Thanks a lot, Txema. Some more questions still - - are you running the game as Admin? - have you noticed any change in performance? - did the system allow you to really uncheck all the marks? It should have given you "The process must have affinity with at least 1 processor" message. Or it haven't?
  12. Thanks a lot, excellent job!!! I couldn't even expect such a detailed answer and can only wish that there would be more posts like yours. And your numbers show that you benefit from the multicore, at least most of the time. A couple of things: - your DxDiag link does not work for me (page cannot be displayed) - however, in 1680x1050 mode, low settings, real time, all 3 points: seems like use 1 CPU option is actually swapped... can be typos, because you've done extensive testing. Or are they the right results? The other side of this is that we still need somebody with AMD multicore, who does not benefit from switching on and off the use 1 CPU option. 13. Two more suggestions: - try changing the windows page file size. In XP, the page file settings are there: Start – Settings – Control Panel – System – Advanced tab – Performance Settings group – one more Advanced tab – Virtual memory. There, click “Custom size” and set both the “Initial size” and the “Maximum size” to at least 2000 MB, 3000 is MUCH better. - unload extra programs that are running in the background - download managers, converters, etc. SIO

  18. Can you send me a couple of your crash saves (at scri@1c.ru)? What is your exact full path of the game installation? SIO
  19. Quick question - does the game always crash if you leave it for some time in the main menu? You'll help with the upcoming patch a lot, if you do me a favour: in towsetup, set Use Sound to OFF. Then start tow, and leave it in the main menu for some time to see if it crashes. This option switches the sound off completely, so we'll see is it was the sound which caused the problem. SIO
  20. Sorry, but still more questions on saved games - - on what mission do you have the crash loading? - can you send me your crash saves (at scri@1c.ru)? - what is your exact full path of the game installation? Saves are stored in the directories, so please send all the files from there. Seems like the people with save/load problem fall into 2 categories - where the save feature does not work at all, and those where the save fails only sometimes. Seems also you belong to the second. 21. yes you can. Manually change the value colourBits in the file ww.ini, this line: window=(changeScreenRes=false,colourBits=32,depthBits=24,drawIfNotFocused=true,enableClose=false,enableResize=false,fullScreen=false,height=768,stencilBits=8,width=1024,posx=200,po sy=10) Also, you can manually change depthBits to 16.
  22. It's because of your video drivers, I think.
  23. Yes... the game is CPU-intensive, not graphics intensive. I agree that TOW can take up to 100% when set to the higher graphics settings (cause more graphics are done on the CPU). We are investigating the issue now, need more information. What is the mission where you have 15-20 fps and 5 in the end, and what are your precise graphics settings (I know that you've posted them a few times already on the forum, but still... maybe you tweaked them a bit since, must be sure) Please email me your reply.
