  1. @ SlapHappy: Ah, the Tow_1.4.exe is not a patch but a separate executable. That is even better. I did't get that from the new information but that is probably just my mistake. cheers, Pat.
  2. Oh yes, just wanted to add: Apart from the lock-ups with the new patch, the game runs as smooth as a baby's bum on my rig at max video settings (pre or post patch). AMD Athlon 64 4800, Nvidia board, 2x Nvidia 7800GT (SLI), 2x1mb ram dual channel. No frame rate issues using 2 CPUs. The graphics are amazing.
  3. After installing the new patch yesterday I’ve had a couple of lock-ups during missions while before the patch I had hem just rarely. My main question for now is if I can install the Tow_1.4.exe over the patched version or do I need a fresh install? cheers. Pat.
  4. For *spoiler* reasons I’m not naming the battle I was playing, but after a left flank attack to take the German’s first trench line I decided to swoop my remaining tank and inf force (mainly reinforcements) around to the right flank to take the second trench line. Had to go past the German anti-tank/inf defenses first to get to an open field to approach the right flank. I send in my tank force first to deal with a PAK and a jagdpanzer that were protecting that flank followed closely by most of my inf. Suddenly my tanks started to get hit one by one and I lost all of them before I new what was going on. Thought I ran them into an anti-tank kill zone. Then my inf started to get blown up. German arty? No, I ran my whole force head on into a minefield! That was the reason this field was open to my approach. It took some serious sulking and “Booing” before I finally admitted that was a pretty good defense trick and I was an idiot for not probing that line of advance before committing my whole force. Excellent battle! Cheers, Pat. [ June 22, 2007, 12:42 PM: Message edited by: Leger Des Onheils ]
  5. I had the wrong impression that their acquisition was 'earned' during the campaign. I’m not sure the staff sq. is available in every mission but when I first looked for it, it wasn’t in the reserve list so I wrongly concluded it must be acquired somewhere else. Or, my brain took a complete leave of absence and I missed them in the reserve list. Probably the latter. Many thanks Edgge, Pat.
  6. Can anyone please tell me how/where do you obtain a 'staff squad'? I'm in the 4th mission of the German campaign and haven't seen any option to buy this squad. RTFM and forum search did not do me any good Am I the only one this dense? cheers, Pat.
  7. What are the Victory conditions for this battle? I took the whole French position with 5-6 tanks but no Victory (all my infantry are manning field guns or trucks across the canal). There were a couple of enemy infantry (4-5 max, the rest is dead) that ran away off the map but some returned to fire with small arms at my tanks while the others just lied down off map. Do I really have to kill those guys to get the victory?
  8. Can anybody recommend a good book on ‘combined arms tactics in WWII’. I’m a bit of a noob on this era. cheers, Pat.
  9. Maybe I missed it but is there a manual for the mission editor? Opened it but found it kinda complex to change a mission right off the bat. cheers, Pat.
  10. I can confirm the 20 min download time. Used the Firefox 'DownItAll' add-on but that wasn't really necessary. It was a fast and smooth ride.
  11. For me the free rotation camera (middle mouse button/wheel) is really fine, total freedom. Works the same as I'm used to in the Take Command series. Hardly ever use keys.
  12. Oooh, this is the first time I can join this fabulous discussion, can I, can I?
