  1. Here are a couple of ideas to help poor old AL out: All these are reference to the Elite AL. 1. Use of BBs etc Whenever an AL country goes down, he always seems to have 3-4 BBs just sitting around somewhere (not helping much). The AL is great at building a strong navy, he just doesn't really use it. To beat him, just avoid his navy and take the cities.... So, what should AL do with the biggest & baddest navy around? A. Protect his cities / islands. Since AL doesn't seem to need to be in port to upgrade, as long as he doesn't need repair put his ships outside the perimeter of his islands/cities instead of in port. B. Chase down and attack any enemies within / near owned territory. It is pretty common to be attacking one AL city while 3-4 BBs sit in nearby cities and do nothing. C. Support AL invasions and escort his transports. He just doesn't do this now. Really the only thing he does now is take sea resources. 2. Use the air force Been talked about before, so I won't reiterate. However, since AL can already see-all know-all the recon aspect of this isn't helpful. Without that, maybe planes aren't much good to him (other than paratroopers, bombers, missles). 3. War & peace AL should not let you land troops on his islands without declaring war (and hopefully sinking your transports). Ideally, once he sees a loaded transports within his recon range he may give you a warning (if far enough out), or just shoot to kill. Same is true for landing paratroopers. Other ships can have more leeway, since their absolute position isn't as big a threat. Just trying to make AL even better. With a game this long (time consuming), he will often be the opponent of choice (he is always there for us:) )
  2. True, it's snowing in the Colorado mountains right now. Have to leave some time for snowboarding No hurry, just wanted to make sure it was on the radar...
  3. With the latest update, the BB targeting seems to work better with you set them to target all units Still no way for arty to target across the water though
  4. I'm ok with the AL cheating on fog of war. I just don't think his arty should be able to hit you outside his collective view range. One of the hardest things about using arty/launchers is you need to spot the target to hit it (except cities of course, they don't move much!). The AL doesn't seem to have this requirement. It leads to lost units from fire you have no idea where it came from. Normally against a player you would at least see the unit that spotted you. Really need to fix the arty targetting across terrain. IMHO, that is the best way to use these units. Put them somewhere where a tank can't easily run them over and blast away. Tanks move so fast that otherwise the range advantage isn't much of an advantage at all. I think the BB targetting issue has something to do with the fix he put in to prevent them from getting tied up in a land engagement....
  5. They are just default (aggressive) I tried attack all units but it didn't seem to make a difference. I had 3 BBs parked outside an AL capital with like 20 units in it for 15 turns or more. Whenever they built an arty, it would engage the BBs and get destroyed. Otherwise, the BBs wouldn't do anything to the other units. Targeting the city didn't do anything either. Aren't you supposed to be able to bombard the city with BBs and destroy buildings/pop?
  6. I have been playing 9431 for a while now and noticed some strange things. 1. Battleships seem to be very inconsistant in attacking land units. Seems like they only return fire at units that fire at them (ie artillery, missle launchers). Also, I can't get them to manually bombard a city (right click with target icon does nothing). 2. Artillery and missle launchers can't explicitly target enemy units ACROSS the water. They will fire at them sometimes, but the right click target icon doesn't work. 3. The ALs artillery can fire at you OUTSIDE of thier view radius (no units near enough to view you, but arty is hitting you) Anyone else see the same thing?
  7. I installed the vista patch and am seeing a different problem. I am running vista on a dell laptop with a ATI mobility Radeon HD 3400 series. In CMBB, the in game text appears as white on white background (and thus unreadable). Strange thing is, I also had this problem in CMAK BEFORE the patch, but the patch fixed it. Any ideas?
  8. Hmm, that is what I am doing. Doesn't work for me. I am running Vista (w/ radeon 3400)though, and the desktop resolution is different than the game resolution. Seems like when antialiasing is forced on, I can't see the text. If it uses app defaults instead, I can see the text but the game crashes when it trys to load the 3d graphics. I just can't seem to make it happy. Maybe I need to pick my game out with AA off, read the briefings, then quit. Turn AA on, try to select that same game and run Any better ideas out there?
  9. How did you setup a profile for video settings specific to CMAK?
  10. How does the alt-tab thing work? I am running Vista with the Radeon 3400. I had to force on anti-aliasing and download the bmp zip to get this far. Battle map looks good, but the briefing screens are blank. When I hit alt-tab, it switches between desktop and CMAK, but still no text. What is the trick here?
  11. When I try the Run as... It gives me the option to run as only 2 users ENT\a0210000 (my login) LTAa210000\LocalControl When I use the LocalControl login, now it works fine. Hey, it's a miracle! Thanks guys! Now, any idea why this happens? Here was the error message: SC2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. When I click the "more details" link I get: AppName: sc2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: sc2.exe ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00012860 When I click the tech information link I get: Exception Information: Then a long list of system info finally the file C:\DOCUME~1\a021000\LOCALS~\Temp\fd36_appcompat.txt
  12. Nope, the only way it will run that I've discovered is through the patch install launch. The PC is a Intel duo processor Intel Core 2 CPU T7200 @ 2 Ghz 1 GB RAM Physical address extension I realize this is a really strange problem. The only programs that do this are SC2 and CMSF. CMBO and all my other stuff has no issue. That was why I thought maybe something to do with the elicense, since those are the only two that use elicence. However, I didn't have a problem with the elicense installation and the games run fine when launched from the patch installer. Is there something different with the way the elicense validation works from the patch installer verses the exe?
  13. The new shortcut still results in a crash. As for running as an administrator, my normal login is setup as a member of the administrator group. It says I have unrestricted access to everything. Are you asking for something different? (Windows XP SP2) There must be some difference between just running the exe and launching from the install utility. The first doesn't work and the later does.
  14. Yep, same issue from the desktop and program files menu. I'm not sure about running with admin rights, I'll have to try that. Seems like this one could be nailed down by looking at any differences between the shortcut launch and otherwise.
  15. Ok, this is a really strange problem that only occurs on my work laptop. I cannot start SC2 or the new CM strike force when using the shortcut to the exe. The only way I can get these to run is by: Installing the latest patch (again), and then selecting "launch the game" at the end of the install. Then either will work fine. However, it still crashes immediately if I try to run from the shortcut (does not even make it to the intro). The older CMBO works fine, just not SC2 or CMSF. So what is different between launching from the patch install and the shortcut? FYI, elicense works with no problem. Please help
