  1. That was fun tonight guys. Sorry to disappoint you 152mm, but I already have a pretty defined Plan A and/or Plan B for most of the maps. At least the objective and territory maps; I tend to just frak around on the ctf games, as you might have noticed. I usually employ a fairly flexible multi-staged attack, almost always culminating in a late game push. The players I learned the most from (or I guess you could say I always got the biggest kick out of beating) were Yurch, Nexus, and jby. This isn't to say you aren't tricksy yourself 152, but you are going to have to do something pretty wacky to come up with something I haven't seen before.
  2. I'll be on again tonight for an hour or so, starting around 7:30 (EST) if anyone is interested in playing.
  3. Something has come up so I won't be able to make it today guys. See you next week - I will try to be on Wednesday again though if anyone can make it.
  4. Good fun Phonan! I lost count of the number of times you did a massive redeployment of your troops; my personally fav is the super-quick scuttle en masse you did with the mortars I had emped with just a few minutes left.
  5. Sorry about the whining today on the last map, but we've all felt the frustration of getting dropped right at an important point in the battle. I'll try to be more stoic in the future.
  6. There are always around the aerial denial game. Flooding the deployment zone with cutters, paladins, and a Thor or two will usually give you that initial push you need to establish a decent front. While this is happening drop some infantry somewhere/anywhere else on the map and start clearing out a spot for later drops. Another technique I employ while faced with total aa coverage is to get a mercury in there with your initial push of cutters and start dropping exploratory sensor jammers to see where the aa turrets might be. If they land successfully you can usually get a dropship down and start clearing away turrets. Also, if the your enemy commits several bacchus at a start of a game and you manage to kill them off quickly, as the game develops your opponent might find himself screwed by this early use of them.
  7. Yeah, you beat me on Dead Gulch, but I can live with that. I wasn't actually bot wrangling as the game had started before either of us logged in and my bots managed to lose all the dropships before I realized. It was indeed a nice turret drop though, don't get me wrong. As for the cheating accusation on Forsaken, unless specified beforehand, I'm pretty sure any units are fair play. The only thing I did that was kind of sneaky was dropping a bacchus just before deployment was up, but I'm not the only one who does this. When attacking I always assume the enemy has denied aerial access to the entire map, therefore making Priority 1 clearing a portion of the map with expendable units. You made the same mistake I made on Dead Gulch, allowing dropships to be destroyed. I'm sorry if you were annoyed by my attempts at aerial denial, but I doubt you'll let that happen again.
  8. Well it's about time we had a mid-week fight night, don't ya think? Let's say roughly 8ish EST, or there abouts. Unfortunately this will most likely exclude Europeans, unless any of you are insomniacs. I'll probably be on a bit earlier sometimes, so feel free to drop in and actually fight some real human beans for a change. Yeah, I know how to spell beings.
  9. Actually I was hoping for around 8 EST.
  10. I've never been into voting a commander because of the limitations it places on the other players, but if you mean designated guys giving the orders then sure. As for next Sunday, it's Easter and I will not be able to make it. Maybe we should square off some time tomorrow if anyone is interested....most have Friday off right?
  11. jby pretty much summed up the space war convention as I know it....oh yeah plus: 3) Thou shalt not use smoke (unless by mistake) as it slows things down too much. As poesel pointed out in other thread the mines can always be cleared by a cutter or two with some support. Working together can overcome most problems.
  12. As far as the mines go, I personally have no problem with them on obj or territory maps either, it's ctf where they are unbearable. I don't usually bother to deploy mines myself anymore, as it is generally more exciting without them.
  13. I might not be able to make it today guys; reality threatens to interfere with my gaming time, unfortunately. Fight ya next week!
  14. I have a feeling Poesel knew this already, he's probably the most knowledgeable player as far as actual game mechanics is concerned. Not the best bot wrangler perhaps, hehe.
  15. Hi Mark! No problem with any game related questions, fire away. As for controlling more than just the unit you are in, yes you can. This is actually one of the aspects of dropteam that I love. 1. To enter the tac map hit the spacebar. 2. To give orders to units click (right or left click I actually can't remember, I just got up) on the desired unit(s) and a menu will pop-up; you can use this menu to issue orders 3. You can also order specific bots to drop specific equipment where you want on the map from the team menu to the top right of the tac map. Try to tell them to drop in a safe area or you will run out of dropships quick. 4. From the team menu you can also choose to observe any bot you like. 5. The best way to control bots en masse is to use a Mercury Command Vehicle safely hidden off to the side of the map - the Mercury has the advantage seeing everything on the tac map that the bots can see, as well as being able to deploy turrets, sensors and such; to deploy turrets in Merc hit cntl D and a menu will pop-up. 6. If you see a bot on the tac map you'd like to take control of personally, you can do this from the drop down menu when you click on the bot - one of the most useful commands for sure. I hope these tips will help get you started Mark, there is a lot more you can do, but this should help for now. See you on the battlefield - Jung
  16. Great to here you're back Paul. Remember, Sunday afternoon (3pm EST) is the best time to play against other players. [ March 06, 2008, 05:50 PM: Message edited by: Junglist ]
  17. Black Canyon requires a no mortar fire on base rule to avoid degenerating into a smash it all and damn the strategy type affair. It is just too tempting and too easy to blow up the other team's facility. The only allowable use for mortar fire for me, and according to my copy of theNew Geneva Space War Convention, on Black Canyon is to kill enemy Bacchus, otherwise it gets ugly. Also, I did know that was you with the mortar 152, I was tracking the shots on the tac map. As for spreading the word about Sunday, I managed to pass the word on to a couple of new players I've meet recently, as well as Wingtips yesterday. So I continue to do my best to keep people showing up. Oh yeah, sorry about swearing at you guys yesterday; it was all meant in jest of course.
  18. I think the Subject pretty much says it all.
  19. The Ion tank (and paladin for that matter) need to be used to formations to be truly effective. When used in a mass formation, with some mixed unit support, Ions can completely dominate certain maps - right down to shooting everything out of the sky. If Nexus wasn't so busy being a dad I'm sure he would be glad to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Personally, I find the "zap!zap!zap!" sound of the Ion cannon to be a little too mesmerizing to use for long.
  20. Yes indeed poesel, you are right. I think it's the 20mm, 76mm, and ion variants which can carry infantry.
  21. I definitely think we should have a rematch against the bot tanks with our infantry. It's been a very long time since any of us lost to the bots. One thing I think we should experiment with is using the Paladin as an infantry carrier to get them to the objective under fire - something we've never really done.
  22. That's what you get for trying to be helpful I guess.
