  1. Egads, all this in our lovely CMBN forum from a player who dropped CM2 at the demo? Understandable considering the lower traffic in the CM1 forums, hardly enough ears for any enlightenment to fall on. I'd challenge pawter to a pbem game to test his over-stacking-power-at-point-of-attack-for-the-win but I doubt I would survive the email banter. He makes Cormack McCarthy's writing seem like a nursery rhyme.
  2. It's like the Masters Golf Tournament, and I assume there are Green Jackets?
  3. There's the 'glass half full' attitude we Canucks are so famous for!
  4. *Disclaimer: Below is in jest* Graphics-Schmafix, the hard core crew is sitting here drumming our fingers on our desks waiting for some real bones relating to the inner workings of this much anticipated title. I care not for hi-res headset wires or gate hinges, I want some meat and potatoes with my bones, save the gravy screen shots for the website when it launches! *End jest* Seriously though, this game is going to look awesome no matter what at this point! While I would crave some bones like the previous ones talking about QB setups and such, me thinks the first release is not far off, so I will wait.
  5. Thanks BF, this post made my Sunday morning! Looking at the last screen shot with the opening in the wooden fence, will a squad moving through that terrain use the opening shown in the image thus creating a bottle neck, or do they move through the entire piece of terrain like in CM1?
  6. I'm just getting into ARMA2 right now, and I love it. It's best played as a group which has led me to searching for a group of like minded players and join their community. This game looks amazing on a powerful computer, and the amount of detail, DLC and the ability to recreate almost anything you want with the editor is amazing. When you want a quick fix of action, it's best to have a 2nd "backup" game on hand, for me it's BF2:Project Reality. 9th company was a decent flick as I remember it, I think a re-watch is in order.
  7. That's got to be encouraging to lots of people with mid-range systems!
  8. Thanks Phillip, glad to hear ATI users are present. How many testers are there roughly? Beta tester forums.....the ultimate Normandy Bone Yard!
  9. Interesting that BF are not tracking the specs of their beta tester's systems. Do any of you know of beta testers using ATI GPU's? So far you all list NVIDIA.
  10. I tried some searches and found nothing so I thought I'd ask if any details could be given as to what specific systems the Normandy Beta testers are using. (There is a beta test ongoing correct?) Failing that, what systems do the BF staff use to run the game so far? I am curious because of previous tech issues when trying to run CMSF and would like to have an idea of what to expect when it comes time to load Normandy on my new system. No idea if BF can or will comment, but thought I'd try.
  11. I am off to test CMSF on this new setup right now then, that's promising. I can imagine the dev's frustration, but like any red-blooded consumer I put the frustration of those taking my money 2nd in line to my own. Joking, but it's true. As I said, I am anxiously awaiting Normandy. This was just me posting my experience so far with CMSF in relation to the OP's observations.
  12. I am using a ATI card and stopped playing CMSF because of an out of memory error resulting in CTD. Posted in tech support and got some replies that it was likely driver related. Rolling back drivers is never an option, for me at least. I stopped trying to fix it, and have always felt that once you get the "it's the driver" reply in the tech forums, that's the end of that. When I go looking for that thread now I see it's gone, appears there is only room for either a certain number of threads there, or they are deleted according to date. Either way, that ruins the ability of the tech forums to act as an archive of information for other users with the same problems. I have fixed problems with other apps / games using posts from very old threads on other forums, so the information can stay relevant for a long time. I am on a new 64bit WIN7 system now, but I still have the same ATI Card (5850HD) and have not tried running CMSF yet. I am still very excited for Normandy and plan to buy it right away and install it with fingers crossed that it will work out of the box on my GPU. So, for me I stopped playing CMSF about a year ago. Obviously I have not bought any of the modules released so far, but would gladly go back and pick them up when I find the game works on my GPU with the newest drivers.
  13. This is the most exciting thing I have read on these forums in a long time. Go BFC!
  14. Welcome to the club NVidia users. We ATI users are used to the CM2 series bickering with Catalyst drivers, now it might be your turn.
  15. For nearly a year I have regarded CMSF very ATI unfriendly. Just coming back to these forums for the first time in a long time, sounds like that might be a thing of the past, but will have to find out for myself soon when I try the new CATALYST Drivers. *EDIT* In all fairness it should or could be said that ATI is very CMSF unfriendly.
  16. I get this error with all CMSF games / pbem turns I launch. Haven't played this game in months, though I'd revive this old thread. 4gig DDR2 ATI Radeon HD5850 Win XP32 SP3
  17. Update, while the artifacts are gone, then new Catalyst drivers stop working after a couple minutes with all CM1 titles. Ugh.
  18. I am running WINXP 32bit, and the Vista patch fixed some graphic artifact issues I was having with my new Radeon HD5850. The catalyst drivers are currently causing huge issues for me with all CM1 games. Drivers stop responding with all CM1 titles. CM2 is getting the out of memory error, not necessarily GPU related. Only way to get CM1 to run wide screen is to adjust your video scaling options on your GPU, and force the wide screen, with distortion.
  19. Well for now I sent in one of my pbem turns that generates the error. I seem to be able to launch large scenarios and campaigns at high settings fine, mind you I have not tried playing them out to see if I get the error. Wondering what factors outside of CMSF would cause file corruption, and if it's something on the users system, why wouldn't it corrupt all pbem files? With different users reporting the same problem over a variety of setups and GPU's, it seems like the only constant is CMSF. For me, the problem is clear, it's something to do with my new ATI HD 5850 GPU. Everything was fine before I put it in. But there are NVidia users in here too, so who knows. I guess I could try some really old drivers, but I just hate reverting to old software. I do appreciate your responses, and understand that while for me this is a show stopping problem, I am in the vast minority. This thread is only what, 3 pages long, with maybe a dozen or more players suffering the same issue? I'm sure you can sympathize with those of us who are for now, unable to play the game. I have a feeling it will sort itself out with a patch, or another video driver or something... But, with CMN on the horizon I'm bummed about the future.
  20. Just installed Catalyst 10.4, still getting the same problem. I am able to load a default scenario, get into the game and move around fine. Tried loading up the same PBEM turn that was giving me trouble, and it still crashes "out of memory". What did everyone else in this thread come up with? Seems Schrullenhaft has moved on, and with nobody else posting, am I alone with this issue now?
  21. Funny, I just upgraded to an ATI HD 5850 and am also unable to run CM1 without a "graphics driver has stopped working error". Our video cards are miles apart, but I'm sure it's something to do with each companies newest drivers leaving these old games in the dust. Sorry I don't have a solution for you, and I have been working on my similar issue for about a month. I will stop hi-jacking your thread now, but will keep an eye on it. *Edit* Regarding Vista patch as a sollution, you can try it by downloading the Vista CMAK demo, which will run the same as a Vista patched full version of CMAK, so you can see if it helps. I am running Win XP 32 bit Pro, and the first graphics issue I had with my new card (artifacts) was surpisingly fixed by installing the Vista patch, even though I am not running Vista, so who knows! Good luck.
  22. Shameless bump, seemed like you had something for me Schrullenhaft....hopefully. Thanks MGD
